Ras 74 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Thanks for the review Pugsly! This is one of the sets I have most looked forward to in the TS line. I guess we will see some quite funny mocs in the future using those figs. Quote
Rick Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I assume the minifig stands fit pressed down on a baseplate? They seem the same dimensions as a 2 x 4 plate, only with some rounded edges. I'm sure some MOC-ers will come up with some creative uses for these pieces. Quote
David Thomsen Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I'm really not sure I like the stretcher not having wheels though. Has any other stretcher not had wheels? I doubt it. It feels incomplete without them, even if this is just a field stretcher. Has anyone noticed the similarity between the jeep in this set and Indiana Jones' Brickmaster Jeep? It's not identical, but it's amazingly close. Quote
Fistach Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Very good review but it lacks the most important thing! Remove green hands and heads and ann standard yellow ones! Quote
Holodoc Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 And another must-have! Thanks again for bringing us the great news, Pugsly! I can see lego putting them in a 3 pack magnet set and selling them for $14.99. Noooo! Don't wake up a sleeping dog! It is a must for every collector. For sure and this in multiples! I hope those fig-stands will become common. I'll be buying this for sure! I'd especially like to see them in trans-clear. Oh, there's plenty of variety! Just compare the green tiles to everything else. Lots of shade and light! I noticed that, too. This is the news for the color-problem in 2010: No change! Let's hope for 2011 then. Quote
Ratbat Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I have no interest in the Toy Story line, but I'm definitely going to pick this up. I've always wanted Lego to do green army soldiers. Just wish it had some more guns. Quote
cagri Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Thanks a lot for the nice review. Could you give us more information about part quality? I spesifically wonder the minifigures, are they low quality like we had in those castle battle packs etc? Quote
Big Cam Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Great review, your pics are looking great, you should look into the reviewers academy, I think you'd do well! Quote
Bachus Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I'm gonna use one of these minifigs as a statue in my park... Quote
lgorlando Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Wow! I thought the SW battle packs were going to ding my wallet, but these little guys are kind of awesome!. I can see having a nice size national reserve army in my town. But what to do with all those green heads? Any thoughts? Quote
Lord Admiral Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I want this set. I wanted it before, but I want it even more now after the review. It's exactly as I thought it would be, and at the price point I had imagined. Definitely a set to get multiples of. And it makes for great stocking stuffer/small gift too. Quote
thespurs200708 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I love it! Fantastic. The only thing that disappoints me is that the men aren't dark enough. Other than that, smashing. Great value too. Quote
ZO6 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Another fantastic review - thank you! LEGO has a real winner on it's hands here, the appeal for both AFOLs and kids is massive. I love everything about this set! The potential for playability and MOCs is superb. Quote
Jameson42 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I can't wait to get this set! Looks fantastic. I love the green, and I think I can definitely find a humorous use for these guys on a train layout. And Martians. Handsome Martians. Like, maybe, a Martian infiltrator... an epic fail one. I dunno, but my first thought was putting one on a Mars Mission astronaut's shoulders for lols. What about "The Mask"? Could be interesting. Quote
CP5670 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Oh, there's plenty of variety! Just compare the green tiles to everything else. Lots of shade and light! Yeah, it's pretty obvious in that picture. The thing is that green was not a color that had problems in the past, as far as I know. This is still a great set though, especially for the $10 price. I'll certainly get at least one. Quote
Svelte Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Yeah, it's pretty obvious in that picture. The thing is that green was not a color that had problems in the past, as far as I know. I've noticed nowadays that every time they fix a colour, they mess up somewhere else Thanks a lot for the nice review. Could you give us more information about part quality? I spesifically wonder the minifigures, are they low quality like we had in those castle battle packs etc? Note the unprinted neck on the torso and the square production marks on the inner arms. Same as the dodgy battlepacks and magnet sets. Quote
MrTools Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Wow, this set looks great and so much green! would have been a little better if they had different faces but i can live with what they have, after all i will replace them with yellow Still i am going to have to get a lot of these! Quote
chump Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Note the unprinted neck on the torso and the square production marks on the inner arms. Same as the dodgy battlepacks and magnet sets. I thought the unprinted neck had more to do with machine assembly of torso and head. Since the hat is attached to the non-standard sized head, it would figure that the the torso and head would not be machine assembled, hence no need for a printed neck. At least that's what I would think. Quote
badboytje88 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I love those new minifig stand pieces - they will make great lilypads! You are so right! Thanks for the great review by the way! Quote
Dunjohn Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I don't really know what I'm talking about here so I'm open to correction, and I can't make out the tell-tale signs on any of the army men figs, but would the fact that they come disassembled inside the regular bags, while Woody and Buzz are in individual "Made In China" bags, have any bearing on quality? Quote
Svelte Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I don't really know what I'm talking about here so I'm open to correction, and I can't make out the tell-tale signs on any of the army men figs, but would the fact that they come disassembled inside the regular bags, while Woody and Buzz are in individual "Made In China" bags, have any bearing on quality? It looks that way, yes. Except that Buzz is only half from the other factory - his regular length legs and torso are normal parts, just like the army men. In his case only the specialty bits of the figure are bagged. It appears that the new longer legs and new longer arm pieces are being made in the secondary factory as well - so Woody comes fully bagged, but Buzz only half-bagged. Quote
RileyC Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Im really looking forward to getting this set the most. I like the army men and the jeep looks like an easy build for beginners. The stand pieces would be great for displaying special minifigs Great review Quote
