Question folks on this rechargeable megabrick-come-battery, if this is built in the a train, there would have to be a socket or recharge port on the train to allow recharging ?

Also I agree with 'Matt Dawson' if phones come with mains chargers - why not PF systems !

The tanker, train station, and cargo train are definitely on my list. However I hate they don't include the base plate for the train crossing.....

Well, two reasons why no base plate with train crossing - (one) people might want to use either a straight or curved road plate for the crossing so which do they include and (two) Lego wants to make more money selling more base plate packs !

just curious, the size of the new cargo train/ track this should work with say 4537-1: Octan Twin Tank Rail Tanker, 4549-1: Container Double Stack, and 10170-1: TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car right?

I'm sure the actual size of some of the cars with others may be unequal but it should all run on the track right?

Its been ages since i sold all of my trains, now i might just get the new cargo train, gotta have something besides space.

I pretty sure they will have the 10v Charger cord for the battery box. Otherwise that would be very bad if they gave you a rechargeable battery, and not the equipment needed to recharge it

The 9v Trains shows the Regulator but not the cord, but the set still came with a cord.

I really like how they simplified the PF but all those parts must be concealed in the Engine.

Does that mean no interior?

News from the Licensed forum.

Apparently, the Harry Potter theme will be returning in 2010, and included in the lineup is a new Hogwarts Express.

No pictures yet, but this means we will be getting a total of four new train sets this year!

a - If they don't include the recharging tool, the train is useless.

b - If they include the recharging tool, anyone who buys more than 1 train wastes some money on extra rechargers.

They are surely going to go "b".

I would have to disagree with the "B" option

Did having the 9v Regulator and charge cord in multiple Train sets stop people from buying them? Just so they don't have multiple cords?

I personally would buy that set, not really caring if I got the extra cord.

Also what if I want to charge more than one battery at a time?

A cord in each set would allow to charge more than one battery at one time.

You could even go a step further and sell your extra charge cord on ebay or BL.

Finally if the charge cord is sold separately , and say you are in the LEGO store, they don't carry any PF for Trains

I remember hearing that LEGO did not want the PF for Trains to be sold at LEGO stores.

So they sell the Train in the store but not the charge cord? I would think that to be rather dumb than just including it.

However I wouldn't be surprised if they did not include it, plus that would make alot of people angry, including me. :sceptic:

I find it hard to believe that anyone would complain about a second charging plug/wire. Surely if one breaks, you have a spare. Jack leads (e.g. Nokia charger, Headphones) always seem to break within about a year of you buying them. I'm not saying you WILL have one that breaks, but surely it beats paying out for a second one?

The problem with b being that if little Johnny gets a train for his birthday and mum and dad don't realise that it needs a cord to go with it...

That's a, not b. :classic: And yes I meant that multiple chargers are a lesser problem.

For me personally (but I'm one of the few) the best would be non-motorized train sets, and motor sets sold separately. This because I haven't yet found a motorization system that fully satisfy me. I'm thinking that I'm going to have to design and build my own system one day, when the kids are older and I have more spare time.

I don't believe that unmotorized train sets sell poorly. The two Santa Fe locomotives, the Holiday Train, the Hobby Train and the Emerald Night all sold very well. When you have no motor, any adult Lego train fan can apply his favourite motorization system to all these sets.

Full trains are probably different because they are targeted at kids more than AFOLs. However, there are already power function motorization sets sold in shops, like the 8293 for around 30$. It should not be difficult to design a variant of this set specifically for trains, and then sell the train set without motor for 20-30$ less. I think TLG doesn't do that because it's easier for KFOL parents to just buy 1 box without the risk that the motor is sold out, but also because now that they invested a lot of research funds in the Power Function system they certainly want to spread it as much as possible.

Think about the two train sets must come with PF components and why ?

The old tale of Christmas morning and NO BATTERIES !!!!

How would a child feel if their train set didn't go ......yes, tears, etc.,.

Also these will be Birthday/Christmas presents, not an everyday item like a battle pack or 20 buck city set, this will be purchased by parents and especially grandparents - who just want to get the whole thing in one hit and not have to buy this and that to make it work (of course they must it forget the remote batteries though).

I mostly agree with your line of reasoning, but I'm pretty sure both the Hobby Train, and the Holiday Train were heavily discounted to clear the remaining stock. The Santa Fe carriages were also very heavily discounted (AUD$20 at one stage) but I think that's the seperate cars versus set issue rather than motorised or not. So perhaps TLG know what they're doing.

Prices from an Italian online store:

7936 Level Crossing = 16.99

7937 Train Station = 39.99

7938 Passenger Train = 102.99

7939 Cargo Train = 164.99

Good news is that I'll probably own my first Lego train set ever (yeah, the cheapest one)

This is really cheap, and I hope that this will be final pricing. Just the PF parts in pasenger train are now worth more than whole train here (battery 57euro, charger 25euro, motor 12 euro, receiver 17euro, remote 15euro = 126euro).

I hope that this does not mean that we will not get charger or that the battery will not be rechargeable but some new type of enclosure for ordinary battries.

And with cargo train you get one railcar more, and truck (which would otherwise cost at least 25euro) and crane (also at least 20euro if sold separately).

But again, if we take in consideration that prices of RC train sets were the same it makes more sense.

So, it looks like my Emerald night will get proper battery after all, and I will easily convert red train to 9V.

Does anyone think the railway panel lift crane comes with any tools, from what I could see it didn't - pitty if doesn't - Ah well MOD and MOC time it will be for me !

Also in the train station, is that a new 6x4 window piece which is a white blank ?

Too cheap if you ask me, but it would be great :classic:

Either the pricing is wrong or this is a new type of battery box as you say. Looking at the size of my rechargeable you could only fit in 4 X AA batteries (6V if you are lucky), and I don't think AAA would be much better, so unless it is bigger we are non the wiser.

Speculating on the high res images, I noticed two things. First that it looks like there is a jack point for the power connection to recharge the battery but against that there seems to be a black bottom to the box which is not present on the rechargeable.......

Either way I like the look of the new sets, but so long to wait.

Is that USD? If so the Station and Level crossing are expensive. The crossing should be about $10 but I guess if they give you 4 straight tracks, then that is what drove the price up. The train station I would have thought $30 to be a good price but again the track must have brought it up.

The Passenger Train is normal priced

Now the Cargo Train is a steal for $165 :oh:

The only lego "train" set I have owned, is the first space monorail, but I suppose that isn't really a train set. This new cargo set has peaked my interest, am bored with space lego and also pirates, looks like trains is going to win me over this year.
