The Craigslist looks fishy, but the other site is less shady IMO. You should be careful anyway. See how both have the S@H description too.

Several postings of this individual/business was flagged by Craigslist in the past few days. Very doubtful that they have so many Lego sets to sell (and some are exclusive sets). Stay away for your own good.

I'm thinking I should stay away. If you go to the Payment and Ship page of the website there are FedEx tracking numbers that originate from Memphis. I suppose since its Paypal I could file a dispute if I didn't get my order.

Are you in Boston? Email them and tell them you want to pick it up locally so you can see it in person and pay then. Otherwise I'd stay away.

Craigslist is known best by its real name. Scam central

I rarely hear about great deals on craigslist.

Yeah I think I will stay away.. seems too fishy, no phone numbers, addresses etc...

We get the postings in California too. I brought it up at my last LUG meeting. Another member was able to look into the origin of the LegoToy.net website. Apparently it comes from China... so absolutely it's a scam. Probably trying to steal your credit card info.

Craigslist is meant for buyers and sellers to exchange items & money in person. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy from these sites as its too risky and most likely a scam.

I've come across this ad, and while it has the slightest potential to be genuine, the following is a list of reasons why I'd never attempt to do business with them:

1) Shear amount of typos/poor grammar usage... "LegoToy.net sell brand new"... "authentiic"... "construct such objects as vehicles", and the list goes on.

2) "All products are sent out from lego warehouse directly." I find that hard to believe, since this site has no apparent affiliation with TLG.

3) No disclaimers indicating that "LegoToy.net" is not affiliated with TLG, and that "LEGO" is trademarked by TLG.

4) No real contact information (i.e. e-mail, phone number), other than a form to be filled out and submitted to an unknown entity, that probably won't respond.

5) The prices they are asking are all below MSRP, and they offer free shipping, which, if you check their "tracking numbers" from FedEx, are over-nighted. So, in order to make any profit, they'd have to be essentially stealing them. Now, I don't know how (or at what price) TLG sells to it's distributors like ToysRUs, etc, but I'd find it hard to believe this business is profitable selling at the prices on their site, and not charging for shipping.

6) Multiple errors on the site, including links that point to the wrong theme, errors in piece counts (MMV), etc.

7) Their home page has links like "toys" linking people to Wikipedia...

8) Apparently they don't charge sales tax for people purchasing in the state they sell out of (TN if the FedEx tracking can be trusted)? If not, since they don't mention this, then they're either taking another loss when they send taxes in, or they're not claiming them - something a business wouldn't do if they don't want to be investigated.

A lot of reasons, I know... but it makes me upset to see scams like this targeting people who are trying to get a good deal on some Lego for themselves or others.

Coincidence that this site pops up close to Christmas time, with the appeal of sets below MSRP? I doubt it... In my opinion, don't purchase anything from this website unless you don't mind the possibility of lost cash.

One cardinal rule of craigslist: always do the deal in person. Also important...if the deal involves lots of $$$, bring a friend or at least let someone know where you are going/when.

Any deal asking you to order online/send money/etc is a scam/fraud.

Having lived in NYC, I have gotten many wonderful deals off craigslist involving but not limited to: two apartments, one house, three cars, tons of vintage audio stuff, etc...I've always had to deal in person and luckily enough, they have all been trouble free.

Totally agree with you on that. Good tips !

I'm from the Boston area and one thing I learned fast while apartment hunting through Craiglist is that you have to be very careful on those deals that sound too good to be true and have bad spelling grammer. Their are Cartels and people who run scams from other countries like Russia and Africa. They put ads up and act like they are renting a place out then try to get you to wrestern union them a check or mail it. They say they are away on vacation and all kinds of stuff.

The other day I did get a good deal on a Lego set though, new too!

Most likely a lot of prospective buyers started asking questions which were left unanswered as I haven't seen this individual/business post again on Craigslist for the past several days.

Just tried the links at the top of the posting and they are DOA, don't work, what ever you want to call it. :skull:

It must have been a scam  , we can only hope people didn't fall for it because cash is usually quite tight at Christmas time and every dollar counts. Also what about the disappointed children expecting a present purchased from a false retailier :cry_sad: .

I hope the law caught up with them if was a scam !! :yoda:
