Captain Becker Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Well that is something impressive thing, Those Ships are massive`s and i liked mostly at that white and dark blue ship, it looked powerful Keep it up man, i cant wait to see them ready Quote
Aquila D'oro Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 WOW these ships are truely drool worthy awe inspiring to say the very least. im just as impressed with the huge boxes and bags of colour coded bricks you have floating around the room very much a proffesional set up - great work! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 An epic ship Commodore! I think she is rather narrow on the top though. I think the biggest improvement is the colours, the gunports in the yellow lines. It looks far more realistic now. Personally I would use more black at the upper parts of the ship, it's quite yellow now, the slopes there look a bit chunky. I think this ship is turning out great, and I'm very curious to the stern and bow. Since those are the hardest part to make like Croissant already said. All the best! Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I second what Blackmoor said, there is a bit too much yellow. Note how this ship has been done with more black at the top: I think your ship could benefit from the same. I would suggest that the top is too narrow, but that is unavoidable on prefabs. All round, good ship, and I look forward to seeing completion. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 The flowers for gunports are a very cleaver idea, and the colourscheme looks good as well. The bow and stern are always the most difficult parts, so I'm interested in how you are going to make it. Thanks. Yeah I am still fooling around with a few details but I am going to try a first draft on the bow over the weekend and see how it looks. I'm liking the new ship however it is nearly as big as the Unicorn, Do not go any bigger! Don't take away my title! Hmmmm Nah. I think she is about maxed for the prefab hulls. I'll stick with my big fleet and big fort to protect me from any threat. Well that is something impressive thing, Those Ships are massive`s and i liked mostly at that white and dark blue ship, it looked powerful Thanks and welcome aboard! WOW these ships are truely drool worthy im just as impressed with the huge boxes and bags of colour coded bricks you have floating around the room Thanks. What you see in the picture is just the tip of the iceberge . Welcome aboard by the way! An epic ship Commodore! You were dead on about the colors. Thanks for pointing that out. I am still playing around with the colors on the upper end. It started out almost all yellow and that didn't look at all right and so I started adding more and more black. I am still working on it. It looks different now than in the pictures. I also have all the gun ports on on one side to get a better feel of the color. I didn't take pictures as I thought i'd wait until I have a working draft of the bow or stern in. I second what Blackmoor said, there is a bit too much yellow.I would suggest that the top is too narrow, but that is unavoidable on prefabs. All round, good ship, and I look forward to seeing completion. Thanks. Yeah. One day I might break this ship down and rebuild from the waterline up. I had to add so many bricks to widen it off the prefabs I don't really think it would take that many more bricks to just get ride of them. I have done what I can to keep the decks as wide as possible but I have to admit it is frustrating not having say 10 more studs. Quote
UNSC Marine Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Alright you scallywags. I have a few more pictures of my First Rate Ship of the Line the HMS Foudroyant. She looks like she will end up with between 110 and 120 guns. Next up will be tackling the bow and the stern. Have you played Sid Meier's Pirates? Anyways...This project looks sweet! I have to say that I'm not a fan of the yellow/black color scheme though. You should do one of them in dark red and dark tan...Maybe the small one since dk red isn't very common... I cannot wait to see the Resolution finished, since that has the best color scheme IMO. Good luck! P.S. First post in the Eurobrick Forums :) Quote

You should go on over to the Eurobricks welcome forum and introduce yourself so we can get to know a little about you. I have not played that game. What is it? Black and yellow isn't my favorite either but it wad so important to the 18th century royal navy I had to do it. I do have some desire for dark red and tan dark green also and tan and medium blue and tan also. I hadn't that about dark tan as that's still pretty limited so if you want to be the first to tackle that I'd be interested in watching. I am goin to attempt a dark tan deck on an upcoming ship. Resolution is my favorite color scheme too. Thanks! Quote
Legorski Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Awesome, can't wait for the finished product. 8D Quote
Ryan_T Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 That... That cat is beautiful! oh.. and the ships are beautiful as well.. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) I am waiting for a few little parts for the Foudroyant and honestly I needed a break from her so last night I started working on the HMS Hotspur my 14-gun Sloop of War. This is the progress I made. Amazing how much faster the smaller ships are to make. Let me know what you think. Edited January 17, 2010 by Commodore Hornbricker Quote
Captain Becker Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I love now that smaller one too, its so cute looking when you make a sterm of it, i would want to know how you do it :pir-skull: Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) This lifeboat might be a bit too large on such a small vessel. And the grey parts of the hull don't suit very good. But if you really want to use them I would make a grey line on the entire hull. That might look quite good. But for the rest it looks just as nice as the rest of the fleet! The colourschemes you use are really awesome. Edited January 15, 2010 by Admiral Croissant Quote
Jack Bricker Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Really nice ships. I am curious how your three decked warship is going to turn out. Can't wait to see them all finnished. P.S. The bluecoats may have more ships but us redcoats have bigger ships and better sailers and more ingenuity. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) HMS Hotspur is a 14-gun Sloop of War and she is getting close to completion. She needs some detailing yet and rigging, etc. I'll probably set her aside for a while in favor of working on some other ships. I hope you like her. I think she has turned out rather nice! Admiral Croissant Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 It´s one of the first ships I see with CGH´s tehnique and on small prefab hulls. And it turned out very well! It´s a very nice ship with -again- a great colourscheme. I think the headrails could use some work, but for the rest I just can't wait to see the final product! Quote
kabel Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) wow, really cool ship, i more and more start to like the small hulls, at first they were a sort of an emergency option for me, now i think they are really cool for making smaller ships, maybe you should try to curve it a little more though, at certain areas it's looking a little bulky, other than that i think it's perfect, Edited January 17, 2010 by kabel Quote
Captain Becker Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 awesome work mate, thats looks absolutly amazing, could you sell it for me just kidding, but that ship is just so cool, good work, i cant wait to see the other ships ready keep it up Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Lovely small vessel Commodore! The colours are great, the shape is nice and the figurehead is nice as well! Though, I have the feeling sloops had 2 masts, 3 masts is maybe a bit too much for a ship of this size. The headrails might use some more work like Croissant already said, and I think your stern galleries are very nice with the smaller windows. But who is that weird guy on the deck? Quote

I am pretty sure the sloop was the smallest three masted ship in the Royal Navy. Whether or not my version would look better with just two is another matter :-). I am going to build a brig and a couple bomb ketchs that will be two masts. The headrails are tricky on a little ship I tried two rows and it looked terrible any suggestions would be great Quote
Jack Bricker Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I really like the hotspur. I like the color scheme and you did a great job on the gallery in the back. I did have one question though and that was I thought that sloops had only one mast. Is that true or did the royal navy classify their ships based on the number of guns they had. I also thought that the British royal navy only used black and yellow as a color scheme for their war ships. Please let me know if I am wrong. I will say though that I do really like the dark red with the tan. That looks just fabulous. Quote
kabel Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 a sloop, and a sloop of war are just two completely different things, whereas the former is indeed just a one masted ship (most of today's sailing yachts are technically still considered sloops) the latter is the term for any kinda small millitary ship, and the us navy used it well into the 20th century regardless of whether, one, two or three or no masts at all Quote
Captain Genaro Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I did have one question though and that was I thought that sloops had only one mast. Is that true or did the royal navy classify their ships based on the number of guns they had. I also thought that the British royal navy only used black and yellow as a color scheme for their war ships. Please let me know if I am wrong. You are correct to say that the Royal Navy classified their ships Rating system of the Royal Navy. Although black and yellow were most common for the navy, captured and commandeeered ships would also be used and not always re-painted. Furthermore, some captains would choose to paint their ships different colors. Quote
Hound Knight Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 You certainly have a lot of LEGO Hornbricker, and you put it to good use too! You've inspired me to get back to ship-building (after I finish my fort dio). Quote

You've inspired me to get back to ship-building (after I finish my fort dio). Thanks. Good to see you. Seems like its been a while? Here is another update of HMS Foudroyant. I have the bow 95% complete. still needs a few details. I have also rebuilt the upper edges of the ships sides and added some more detail (thanks Captain Green Hair and Bonaparte for the inspiration on the checkers.).
