Finished the book, and I have to say, the story was terrible.

Darth Vader gets captured and taken to the Dantooine base? really? Then why would he let Tarkin send scouts to Dantooine in Ep.4 when he knew that the Rebels knew that he knew where their base was and would move somewhere else? I did sort of see the emotional journey though, in that Starkiller was trying to find his girlfriend and discover his past. Again.

Given the game is set just 1BBY, maybe he thought they would still be there.

I just finished the game and having come off the God of War trilogy recently (yeah I just got a PS3), I was very disappointed with the gameplay, the environments were painfully repetitive, and the story wasn't as great as I hoped it would be. The platforming segment at the cloning tower towards the end was plain boring and extremely repetitive, and the whole middle on the ship was just a big waste of time. The Boba Fett and Yoda cameos were.....just cameos, I was hoping there would have been more of them. The story was passable but only just, I haven't played the first game but I do know that the story was great in that, there is still a lot of potential in this saga. All in all, not a great game, but if your a Star Wars fan you might like this.

Yeah. After all the Yoda-hype and putting him on a bunch of teaser pics, you'd think he'd play a bigger part than

saying a couple sentences of advice

ATTENTION! SPOILERS AHOY! :vader:

Well I ordered the game a few days before release date on Discovery Channel's game shop. (You'll get it on release date... I got it 5 days later :P) I paid a bit under full price since they had an offer with a free T-shirt. :classic: (Which they forgot to send. After a mail, I got word they're sending it to me. :hmpf: )

As for the game itself, I quite enjoyed it. I haven't played the first game so I can't compare, but I liked the gameplay for this one, the moves certainly look great. Sadly though, there isn't much variation into it for example you're facing the carbonite droid, you have to damage it until you can do the special move scene, but this move is always the same, only the buttons you have to press seem to vary.

The graphics look great and the cutscenes look excellent (Yoda, Boba Fett and Vader mostly.) They really managed to give the characters expression, and the voice acting is great aswell. (For example, Boba Fett's voice works out rather well and when he says 'they won't be coming back' he shakes his head. Excellent acting.) On a side note though, although Vader's voice acting is usually great, sometimes I feel it's just not his voice completely. (Not in the cutscenes but when you're fighting him for example.)

Most of the complaints seem to regard the short span of the game. And it's true, in some aspects the game is short for example the first level on Kamino, it's about 1.5 * the length of the demo version. On the other hand, some played it on normal to come to that conclusion. You'll have to play the game atleast at hard to really enjoy it and get a challenge out of it. (Because unlike the movies, storm troopers DO have a good aim. ) I'm playing it on unleashed now for the second time, and it goes better now than when I played it on hard.

This brings me to another point: boss battles. Fighting bosses for the first time brings A LOT of frustration. Especially the Bolrog battle, you don't have a clue what you exactly have to do or how to defend yourself. (In previous LucasArts games, blocking with your lightsaber reflected EVERY blaster shot. Now you can only reflect blasters when you press the button right before they hit you... An appearantly lightsabers block Gorog breath?) Lightsaber throw and lightning will be your best (and more or less only) weapons when fighting bosses or even big enemies like AT-MPs, AT-STs, Carbonite droids, etc.

About the storyline... I don't get the point. Supposing he IS Starkillers' clone, why would Vader clone him? The most powerful Force user ever known turned against the Dark Side in the first game and almost killed Vader and Palpatine... So they clone him again? Not only that, but appearantly the clones have memories from Starkiller making them even more dangerous to the Empire... Perhaps Vader could have spend all the money and resources on finding the rebel leaders and hire Boba Fett to KILL Juno and the other rebel leaders?

Anyway, the main plot is about... him (wether he's a clone or not) going after his girlfriend. Vader takes his girlfriend as a hostage. He goes back for his girlfriend. Oh and yes, the entire rebel fleet happens to be around for the occassion and is able to attack a major Imperial planet head on. The rebels win, Vader is captured and he gets his girl back. (And honestly, Juno looks quite different from TFU1, not her clothes but her face etc.) And Boba Fett goes after them when they leave Kamino.

How do you keep Vader imprisoned I wonder? Considering he broke through his restraints when he first got his armour, how can a metal structure hold back his power? Lord Vader is great in the game though. At the end of the duel, he gets thrown into a lightning mast for several seconds for several times. He doesn't stop after such a torment, no he redirects all the electricity he received and sends it back Starkiller('s clone). Now that is badass.

I loved a few new enemies like the Terror Troops/droids (very reminiscent of General Grievous), the Sith acolyte and the Saber Guards. (You feel sorry for them when you put your sabers in their chest, they utter some sort of tormented moan.) But there's something I don't get: the idea of battledroids was abandoned after the Clone Wars (cf. the 501st clone from Star Wars Battlefront 2) but somehow, half of the Imperial army seems to rely on droids. I can accept the idea of the terror droids (as Darktroopers were developed later on) and the carbonite/fire droids. But the terror walker (updated crab droid?), terror droid walkers (gorilla like body with a giant General Grievous head on top of it  ) and all those annoying terror spider droids (a lot of variation in the names too it seems.). It feels like I'm playing the space levels from Episode III the game again.

Despite all of this, I did enjoy the game since there a few things that make it great:

-Customisable lightsabers. In pretty much every colour and usually with an effect. (health, force, etc.) Sadly, you're restricted to using both lightsabers.

-costumes: gives the game a completely new experience. Nothing like PROXY warning you for Boba Fett when you're wearing his armour.

-databank: THE best thing about the game. It gives a completely different insight on the characters, vehicles, etc. Scout troopers don't like regular stormies. lieutenant Piett is trying to get away from Lord Vader despite of his promotion. Darth Vader doesn't like to be called 'Darth'.

Anyway, I recommend the game, but don't get it at full price unless you get a got deal or so. As for the special edition, I think those levels will be put on PSstore later on (or already are), the yellow lightsabers and stormtrooper costume can be earned ingame so I don't think it's worth paying that much more for it. But if you can find it at the price of the regular version, go for it.

That being said, I'm MOCing some characters from the game that'll be posted soon. Oh and one more thing, the Imperial Baron with Russian/Romanian accent is the best new character and has great voice acting.

You could add the spoiler tags, like I did to the quote.

Nice assessment, too.

Interesting news! I'll defiantly get the Endor DLC (no need for skin pack). I'm suprised its only $1 though, TFU stuff is still £8.

This takes place on the 'starkiller killed vader' alt time line right? So Luke will be Starkiller's Apprentice? I guess we'll be defending the shield bunker from Han and Leia and possibly a fight with the Emperor on the DS2

Possibly that is what they are doing, I am not really surprised, given how crap the game was they probably figured if it was too expensive people wouldn't buy it.

I suppose the spoiler warranty can be dropped from now on? (It's been about a month since its release)

2 euros for a new map pack and a new skin? Sounds great. :)

I finished the game on unleashed about a week ago and choose the dark side ending for a change. I have to say, this ending is A LOT more interesting and actually makes more sense than the original one. Having a level built on that ending will be great.

On the other hand though, the deluxe edition had 3 (?) extra levels, will they be offered as DLC aswell for the regular version users? (I think they did that for TFU although the Sith edition was released after the DLC was released...)

I've already finished two figures from the game and will be making more to create a few MOCs. Although the story was a bit 'meh', I did enjoy the action in it. :classic:

I wanted to make a note on the story. The fact that about half of Starkiller('s clone) dialogue consist of 'Juno' 'where's Juno' 'I have to save Juno' is beginning to bug me while replaying it. I understand that LucasArts is trying to link his storyline with Anakin's love affair but it doesn't make sense that he goes after Juno alone while Kota is pretty much fighting alongside him on Kamino? I'd preferred to see Boba somewhere on Kamino (fighting Kota) like in the comic since he played a pretty vital role in it. (Also, in the comic the empire was cloning Boba... why? Since when did every single person qualify to be cloned? Boba is pretty much the same as Jango genetically, so why bother?)

I really hope TFUIII will be able to resolve the issue with the storyline... Playing as Boba Fett on the first level would be a great start? Or we could go the other way...: Boba frees Vader, Vader and Boba take Juno and travel to Coruscant. Starkiller('s clone) wants to retrieve Juno and we go on.

One final note: Starkiller('s clone) isn't very manly when it comes to taking damage. He usually cries in a scared way when taking minot injury instead of a moan like I heard in every Star Wars game before (Heck, even stormtroopers sound better).

If you mean the collectors edition pre-order DLC, it was not 3 more levels, it was 3 more challenges which sucked, a new skin, which sucked, and 2 well 1 new crystal (for each hand) which increased damage I think.

It might become available to but, even though LA lied and conned us fans saying they would not release Hoth mission that was in TFU:USE they did, so would not be surprised if they have lied and sell the pre-order, which unless you really like the challenges then it is not worth getting.

I'm downloading the dlc for the first game as i type (Postin' on my PS3) Does it matter what order I install it in? I'm at the Cloud city/Narr Shadarr level which is a good place for the jedi temple. If i install the dark side stuff before i complete the game, will it mess the level select up?

Posted

I guess by now its too late, but no it does not, you pick the normal mission, or the jedi temple, or the tatooine, or hoth, you can not actually play them as part of the normal mode.

Okay, I'm not sifting through 16 pages. I'm just gonna say my thoughts on TFU2 and be gone.

So when I saw the first teaser video of TFU2, with the Rancor being crushed by that giant something, and Starkiller coming out with TWO LIGHTSABERS ZOMG, I was pretty excited. Then the big ol' cinematic trailer with Starkiller pulling off all sorts of crazy stunts and slick moves to bring down giant robot baddies only amped up the excitement.

But since it's release I've only really heard negative reviews, saying it's basically TFU with some more good, bad and ugly stuff thrown in. After giving it a bought of game-play on console I can say it is very similar to the first Unleashed. It's quite repetitive, I wish there were more variation in the quick-time moves/cinematics, that was the major thing I noticed. Lots of the same thing there.

Still, if it gets the Steam Christmas Sale treatment I'll probably be tempted to pick it up, as cheap games on PC, my platform of choice, are hard to pass up. Especially since it's still fun to slash up Stormtroopers and toy with them using the force.
