Siegfried Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Topics and images from LEGO Kids Inner Circle really should be kept secret; hence the name. While it's great to hear about this stuff when you're not part of it, it's even better to encourage TLG to continue to seek outside advice. If the participants can't play the game as agreed I'm pretty sure that TLG will just go back to local research, and that is to the determent of us all. Please try to keep things as they are by helping TLG to help us help them. Which in the end helps us all. Quote
ILikePi Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Thanks for posting this Siegfried! I was very annoyed when people posted pictures, screenshots, and polls from the LKIC website that were for members only. So far, I recall that it has happened three or four times, which is way too many. Also, the things asked or shown are for kids to decide on, not AFOLs, and they are not completely set on doing the things they ask, it's just an idea. Hopefully people will stop posting the things after seeing this topic. Quote
desultor Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Does this include the ECO poll I shared? My thread was quickly Admin-removed with no explanation. I thought it was for parents; at the end it encouraged me to sign up my kid in some program. If such re-posting here of official TLG polls is taboo, sorry! Quote
Rick Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 From what I understood of it, it's explicitly stated that you cannot make the information public, that's why it was removed. The 'eco-thing' has been removed at least 3 times that I saw, so it may be even more. Good thing that you point it out explicitly Siegy Quote
Siegfried Posted December 19, 2009 Author Posted December 19, 2009 Does this include the ECO poll I shared? My thread was quickly Admin-removed with no explanation. Yes, and this is the explanation... I personally don't know much about LEGO Kids Inner Circle, but we have received requests to take down/edit topics that contain information gain from there. Also I have heard from at least three EB members involved that it's made clear to not spread the information. For this reason I'm decently confident that posting such information is not going to please TLG. For further info please contact TLG via the LEGO Kids Inner Circle site (I'm not a kid), but until we hear otherwise from TLG we'll maintain this policy. If such re-posting here of official TLG polls is taboo, sorry! Official TLG polls are 100% OK if they are meant for release to the general public, as many are. Quote

The images were originally released to us adults in the polling company's Flickr stream, not through the Kids Inner Circle. That seems to be as official and public a source as any. I agree with not discussing leaked info, I just am not sure what constitutes leaks or not. This seemed more like an official release through Flickr than a fan-based leak. -John Quote

Well as I said, I know very little about LEGO Kids Inner Circle, so I can't say any more that I have. Was the text on Flickr too? Do you have a link; the pictures may be private as I couldn't find them. Quote
Shadows Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 As a card carrying member of the Kids Inner Circle, I can confirm that the survey made it very clear that the images and information were not to be shared. I can also tell you that I have no idea how I became a member of it and thought it was just marketing spam I opted in for while placing an order through S@H. I certainly didn't sign up for it specifically, so I assumed it was sent to everyone who ever ordered, but that doesn't change the stated terms. That said, if there is a Flickr stream that releases that kind of information officially, I'm sure we'd all love a link. Quote

Do you have a link; the pictures may be private as I couldn't find them. The images were on Flickr along with, I believe, the text of the questions. (i.e. "Would you buy a set of LEGO if...") I went digging again for the images, which had even been added to the core "LEGO 16+" group, but no dice. I could swear they were from an official marketing firm's Flickr stream, because I commented to myself that this was uncharacteristically above board for TLG. I can only find the fan uploaded versions in my cache on my laptop. When I get home on Tuesday I'll check my desktop's cache to see if I can find the Flickr user ID for the marketing firm. Regardless, IF this was announced from an official channel, then revoked and "privatized", is that still fair game for discussion? Seems that if it was an official announcement then they rethought the decision, much like a catalogue or set obtained from a store early/before official release, it shouldn't be barred from discussion. It's sort of like trying to get dye out of the swimming pool. Regardless, I don't believe we as an adult fan community can ignore even the prospect of a shift toward wooden or bio-degradable bricks without speaking out strongly against the corruption of the brand. But I digress... -John Quote

But I digress... -John This may help clarify any questions about whether or not to publish confidential LKIC images. Also, I highly doubt there is an "official" polling Flickr stream for this focus group (which has been around since 2006); I think I might know the stream you saw and believe TLG asked them to remove the leaked images. It's like I Like Pie said a few comments ago, these surveys are "designed" for kids; TLG knows how & where to poll AFOLs ;-) By skewing up the feedback, it really messes up all the $$$ they spend on market research, ya know ... Good thing LEGO doesn't have an Army -- else we'd be losing the battle, for all the classified info leaked Personally, I think that EB has a policy of no confidentially-marked photos is quite admirable Quote
desultor Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Hey guys, I feel like we're perhaps talking about (at least) two different things. Here's my original survey invitation e-mail. It doesn't ask me to keep the survey contents a secret like LeggoMyMamma's. (When I clicked the link again just now, the survey had different, boring, questions for me.) The e-mail's language is geared towards adults, and the survey specifically states that it "should be taken by a parent / guardian / adult." My guess is that they're looking for my input as a S@H e-mail list member, not as a Kids Inner Circle member (which I'm not). I wish I had thought to capture the first few questions on the ECO survey. That could have cleared things up better than the above. Quote
Siegfried Posted August 5, 2010 Author Posted August 5, 2010 Please note that I have removed the "Possible New Licensed Themes" topic. I strongly doubt that TLG want this to be released. It's important to note that releasing information like this can reduce the chance of it actually happening. In most cases these polls are used to help TLG decided to approve or request licenses and/or future lines... and by posting it here you have allowed others to know that TLG is at least considering some of them. As a result a license may be upped in price by the holder and thus be too expensive, or a competitor may beat them to the punch. On the other hand, TLG may release this data expecting it to be released and thus give false intelligence... I do doubt this though so I'd prefer that we keep Inner Circle data secret. Quote
Big Cam Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Good looking our seigfried. As exciting as that kind of news can be, if it hinders our chances of actually getting those sets, then I say good move. Quote
