Jameson42 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Hey folks, here's something I've been tooling around with for a couple months... an 8-wide CC Popcorn Shop! It's based very loosely on the Wheaton Popcorn shop, which is basically a door and a roof on an alleyway: I went there all the time as a kid. Let me know what you think! Quote
Legostein Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Hello! That's an adorable little building! The house facade is really nice and those grill tiles do their job excellently! Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
metalgearsolid Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Oh very cute! Any interiors to share? Seems to fit very well with the rest of your street. Quote
wooootles Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Ahahah the real life version is crazy! But you recaptured the idea pretty darn well Quote
Jameson42 Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Oh very cute! Any interiors to share? Seems to fit very well with the rest of your street. No interior yet. I will start working that out soon. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 The MOC and actual building are both pretty neat and quite charming. Do you have any interior shots? Quote
Jameson42 Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 The MOC and actual building are both pretty neat and quite charming. Do you have any interior shots? I haven't built any interior yet, but here's an interior pic of the real thing: Candy in front, popcorn and payment in back. Quote
Rick Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Geez, that's narrow But the building looks colorful and integrates nicely in between its much bigger brothers and sisters. Be sure to post the interior here once you're done. Nice work. Quote
Modulex Guy Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I've walked past that popcorn shop before! Its quite small! Great MOC! Quote
BlueBard Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 (edited) What can I say but wonderful job? Simple but nicely achieved and it fits perfectly in those little gaps we all have in our towns Actually, I think you gave the perfect idea for a gap I had in the last building of my display... Milan Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Very cute. I just love how narrow it is! And the color is perfect! Looking forward to see the interior! Quote
Zorbas Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Very nice! I just love the second picture! It looks very cute and realistic at the same time. There is a shop in the city I live that sells postcards and posters and it's exactly like the real life popcorn shop shown here! Even the walls are the same. Well done! Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Well I'll say it too - CUTE ! I really love this CC style building - so small yet so beautiful. The use of just red and white together simply again beautiful. Maybe Lego need to do some smaller CC style sets like this to go with the series they started only 2 or so years back. 'Jameson42' your a genius MOCer ! 'OH YEAH !' (Chef Mundal - Chowder) Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Great use of those interesting corner pieces for the overhang. Quote
MarcusV3 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Wow! It looks quite a bit like it's real life counterpart Though it looks pretty hard to squeeze into the real life one I'd get claustrophobic Quote
prateek Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Awesome job! I love that you included a real pic for reference. I'd say it's a wonderful renditition Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 A great little addition to any town Quote
Carbohydrates Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Awesome, reminds me of some of the ridiculously narrow spite houses in this article. I love the way you did the columns, even if it does leave a dreaded... gasp... 1/4 plate gap! Quote
Jameson42 Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 Awesome, reminds me of some of the ridiculously narrow spite houses in this article. I love the way you did the columns, even if it does leave a dreaded... gasp... 1/4 plate gap! Actually, if you'll look here: There is no gap. If you like I can take a blowup pic to show how I did the angle. Quote
Rick Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 1/4 plate gap! There's a 1/2 plate left... I always represent a plate by '2', a brick height by '6' and a brick width by '5'. This way you need to cover 10 units (2 brick width), which is done with one brick width (5) and two plate heights (4), which leaves 1 unit, which is 1/2 plate height. If you like I can take a blowup pic to show how I did the angle. So, you didn't just not fully press down the red 2 x 2 tiles? Quote
Jameson42 Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 So, you didn't just not fully press down the red 2 x 2 tiles? The tiles are held on by 2 technic 1/2 pins each. The remainder of the SNOT here is done with a couple brackets and a single headlight brick on each side. Quote
Rick Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Ok, but the tiles on the inside (leading up to the door) are at a slight angle to cover the 1/2 plate difference. I assume you just did not press those down entirely on the half pins to get that effect? Quote
Jameson42 Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 Basically, yeah. The tiles are sitting on the long ends of the 1/2 pins. The angled hold is actually very secure. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Very narrow building I see, it really looks like it was pushed down the alleyway. I like the front of your building a lot. You've put a lot of attention to detail on such a small space. Quote
