Actual ship has sphere, Lego set has sphere.

You could do something radical like NOT put a droid inside the sphere, which is accurate to the ship, and even has relatively accurate printing, and be happy that they gave you some extra minifigs. At least they nailed the number of thrusters so you don't have to complain about that as well.

PS. Its a $20 set.

exactly!

I bought this set along with the ARC-170 as an extra, but after putting both together I actually ended up liking this one more! Though I might tweak it a little (replacing some of the plates with wedge shaped parts to fill the gaps in the wings), the overall design scores well with me on both accuracy and size.

And it IS an unmanned craft with a droid brain, the rocket droids are fun but totally useless extras as far as this set is concerned. A couple of (redesigned) buzz droids would've been nicer in my opinion. Actually, a member of this forum posted a really neat MOC of a buzz droid once, about as close as you can get to the right size and not all that difficult to recreate if you got the right parts.

I agree completely, where did it ever say the droid goes into the sphere? :hmpf: I don't know too much about the droids included, but I'm pretty sure they are designed for flying in space, not for piloting another droid.

THERE IS NO COCKPIT!

Then what's that round thingy in the center supposed to be?

Some kind of highly intensive computer, that is so intense that it appears to be translucent to the human eye?

Maybe the way it is constructed from dreaded Click Hinges means that it was never to be opened?

Seriously now I am still loving this set, my first Star Wars Space Ship (i have helped nephews with countless, but this is my own!). But even better it has ignited an intrest in attempting to build a MOC sci-fi craft (unsuccessfull so far, but i luv the passion that I have when I try my hand at it). So it is for that reason, very subjective i agree but I am in awe of this set, i feel 20 years younger as I try to build something of my own, but inspired by this set.

2.that, and do the wings(?) get in the way of the sphere opening?

No you can open it and it's meant to be opened. One of the playability factors that Lego includes is a picture showing a battle droid can be put in the sphere. I don't see why it's a big deal though, you can choose to put a droid in there or not for whatever your purposes.

As for the set itself, I thought Lego did a very nice job. The flick fire missiles on the bottom actually sort of look like missiles which is a nice touch and this new tri fighter dwarfs the old one that Lego released a few years ago. Plus it's got a good selection of 2x4 tiles as well. Those sure look nice. And it comes with battle droids which is far better than the hideously over-sized buzz droids. Good set.

Just like the Wookie Attack set, the "cockpit" is just for playability. I'm very sure Lego designers would check on the real thing before designing the set. It's for kids who don't know what the rocket battle droids are for.

Great set, but I still haven't got it yet. :hmpf_bad:

Could you do a side by side comparison of this and The cw vulture droid from ahsoka's Jedi starfighter set?

(edit): sorry, I didn't mean to revive. It won't happen again... I'll kindly pm him next time.
