Fantastic review, seeing this review kind of makes me want to buy it since it seems so well built and I also adore that little quad bike. Me thinks Lego needs to makes bigger streets for these mammoth vehicles they have now.

Thank you for the review. Great Job!! I wanted to mention for those of you members that live in the USA that Target stores have these sets in stock. The box mentions that this set is a Special Edition in the states. My guess would be that this is a Target exclusive.

So for those of you US residents, Target stores may be the only department store that will carry this set. Thought I would mention this, sorry if this has been mentioned already.

Model On!!

I will put this set into my wish list. Yes, it is in 8-wide scale, but the details are very good. Also off-road truck chassis looks grea! Thank You for this quick review!

Thankyou very deatiled and awesome review.

This looks fab , i like the off road axle setup, and the crane stabilsers remind me of the classic town crane which used a similar-ish method.Though i prefer the method used in the Fire ladder truck boat combo released not so long ago.

Awesome set though and a brilliant review most comprehensive

Okay, quick question: I'm up for a purchase, somewhere around the USD $40 range. Do I go with:

  • This set, currently $5 off at Target
  • The Fire Helicopter, also currently $5 off at Target
  • The Beach House Creator Set, and throw in a pack of TS Army Men for good measure
  • Drawbridge Defense with the Gold Knight, the Queen and the Jester
  • Or hold off until the newer sets drop

Not quite sure where to go here... any suggestions from those who own these sets?

I own the first three sets on your list and my favorite is the Fire Truck with Boat. That set serves as a great parts pack for MOCing. Also, although I've never built any of the three models in the set (all the pieces were used for my MOCs), I feel the vehicles will look good as part of a layout or as individual display pieces.

I do like the helicopter set too though- the copter itself looks real good. However, I feel the jeep that comes with the set is very plain, unoriginal and only serves to jack up the price. Also, the bucket and fake "water" that comes with the helicopter are pretty useless as well- they offer no play value and are awkward to use for display.

The beach house is cute and offer a good amount of detail. But it is very small and difficult to provide any furnishings. It may also look awkward in a town layout without a beach. As for the alternative builds, the cafe is nice but the three-story apartment is terrible.

Truth be told, I like all three sets. It all just depends on what you intend to do with your sets (MOC or collect) and what your town is missing.

Thanks for the advice! I thought I'd update you on the verdict-- stopped by the TRU on the way home yesterday and actually was surprised to find the 2008 police sets restocked. This changed everything!! I actually contemplated the big HQ set for awhile, then settled on the Mobile Command Center instead. I've now found myself thinking more and more about the headquarters set again, and also thinking about that fire copter. Sometimes I swear it's an addiction :cry_sad:

I know I am once again late to the party, but thank you for the great review. You just inspired me to get one of these off of Bricklink to go along with my shiny new 4430 " Firetank".

My main reason for posting. I saw a few posts asking what this truck was supposed to be, and I was surprised that no one recognized what it is? It looks very clearly like a fairly typical Oshkosh heavy flatbed transport truck. And yes these things are that big. They are primarily used by the U S Army for all sorts of things.

They are rare but not unheard of as fire trucks, with one common exception. Those monstrous airport crash fire trucks are almost always made from these as they are one of the few chassis that can handle the massive water tanks they need.

Wow... can't believe I never noticed that, but I think you are right. It definitely seems to be based off of an Oshkosh HEMTT, maybe an M1977 which carries a Combat Support Boat.

I can't believe I've never noticed this before, since I went to college in Oshkosh and live just a couple of miles from one of Oshkosh Truck's facility where they have hundreds of these things sitting. And yes, they have turned HEMTT's into fire trucks as well.

Dang, now you make me want this set.
