I honestly never understood the tiny turbos. It's like the Star Wars minis- kinda cool, but not really worth collecting. I'd rather a larger model with more detail.

Oh, I never collected them, but I'm sure some younger kids at least would want to. After all, the price point is decent, and the models were fairly well designed (besides the promos, few of them totally recycled old designs). Even without collecting them, I couldn't help but enjoy getting them as stocking stuffers or Brickmaster sets.

Fair enough. The TT waves were cool in their own right, and it's hard to argue with a $2 price tag. Given the option though, I'd probably prefer spending a full $10 on something that delivers a little more. (of course, being a college student that pays for his own stuff, it's hard to look at $10 as anything other than a meal these days  )

I'm more pumped for these Worlds Racers than anything else I've seen out of the Racers line for some time though. (I know these aren't technically Racers, which might be why I like them since I'm not a big Nascar kind of guy)

I don't think I will EVER convince adult builders that there's a lot more to the TT scale than there looks to be. You would be amazed to see how many complex details you can pack in one.

My friend recently made a TT muscle car with a rollcage in a space that was 4 studs wide and two plates high. Maybe less, I forget.

They're not only for kids.

They were fine the first few years but now it just seems to be the same thing over and over with different colors. They all look the same now and being $6 a piece is insane. I rather buy the Creator cars.

I'm just glad LEGO realized they can have Racing and TT Racers and not one or the other.

They sort've seem to resemble Hotwheels and Matchbox, like Brick Giant said, same thing in different colours. The skill needed to MOC a good one is certainly impressive, but as a theme they have never appealed to me. I did mention earlier that printed helmets and minifigs packed with character have alway appealed to me, so that is likely the major reason I only have free promotional TT cars.

So yeah, I am certainly looking forward to a minifig scaled racing theme.

What else did you expect them to focus on? Tiny Turbos are essentially the modern-day equivalent of the four-by-eight go-karts that in the 90's were a fairly standard part of the Race theme (or, conversely, the limited-piece Xalax-era Racers sets with weird monster figs). You simply can't make a minifig-compatible car at that scale unless it's a compact, and compact cars don't have the same action-y appeal with preteen boys as genuine race cars, sports cars, or stunt cars.

I'd rather have them focus on small cars with minifigs instead of TT's.

I like blizzard's peak so much that I may actually get it, but my opinion on the theme is that there had to be one new theme this year for me to skip so that I can buy all the other stuff I want

That's fine, but kids are more likely to buy a car set for the car, not for the minifigure. Which is pretty obvious when you look at the decisions LEGO has made, transitioning from small cars with minifigs to small cars with mini-mini-figs with 2x2 bodies, and finally to Tiny Turbos. Clearly, undersized cars with oversized people in them aren't as dynamic in the eyes of viewers. Of course, it would be nice to see a realistic go-kart now that builds have advanced sufficiently, but to have that sort of thing as the standard, as it was in the '90s? Not for me.

See, the more I look at the other themes and sets out in the summer, this is the one I want the most. All of it. I am drawing up racetrack sections and scenes, I am thinking of other competitiors and finish lines for each set.

Like Agents, this theme has captured my imagination.

The concept of a racing theme with a story, along with the crazy designs, reminds me of Drome Racers. I like that; Drome Racers gave us some great parts in great colors as well as some great media (I really wish I had paid more attention to the online games, etc.), and hopefully this will do the same.

I agree. World Racers is a lot like Drome Racers, except it doesn't take place in the future and only has two teams (for now).

As for the "World Racers versus Tiny Turbos" subject, I think both styles of LEGO race vehicles have a place. :classic:

Tiny Turbos are good because they are easy to collect and customize. Plus, if you were to take some LEGO Bricks with you on a trip, you would want to take something with a durable canister and no Minifigs that you wouldn't want to lose. MOCing with Tiny Turbos is good because you challenge yourself how many details you can fit into a tiny racecar.

Minifig-compatible racing vehicles are good, because almost any Minifig-Compatible Racing Vehicle built using the pre-fab design included in the instruction booklet that came with the set, will look good with almost any other LEGO playtheme that features Minifigs. For example, the Red-Team Monster Truck included in Blizzard's Peak wouldn't look half bad at one of the evil Ogel's basecamps, and the Motorcycles from Snake Canyon would blend in perfectly in a LEGO City highway.

I rather like the look of this theme, I might have to pick up a couple of the smaller sets (at least).

When are they due to be released? (I seem to be asking that a lot lately  )

I think they come out in the summer wave, but they might even be out by May-June :classic:

Well, more serious TT connaisseurs tend to build their own which are a lot more detailed, professional and better quality than LEGOs', we only buy LEGO's TTs for the parts. And they come out with new parts in new colors on new designs every year.

Building instruction of a World Racers promo set is found in lego.com

30031 World Race Powerboat

It is noted that 30031 is Race 9, while the 6 sets (8896-8899, 8863-8864) are Race 1 to Race 6.

So where are Race 7 and Race 8?? :sceptic:

I wonder if there will be impulses for race 7 and 8?

I have already built two car MOCs for the racings...

Also have some huge MOCs to build for this theme. This is the theme this year. My speed racer cars being together still is sort of a sign.

How much life do you think this theme is going to have? I would kinda like them to expand more on the bigger sets, the off-road styled vehicles are awesome, I guess I just perfer wheels over boats.

I've got a feeling that the exclusive is going to have planes, just a feeling though.

I'll say two years like most of the LEGO action themes.

Atlantis seems to have been planned for 2-3 years, while Power Miners seemed to only be planned for one really big year (14 sets I think?) and then got a second year because it sold better than LEGO thought it would. So we shall see. There can be endless race cars though so as long as the theme keeps selling LEGO will keep making more.

It'll probably be this summer, and just another wave in January 2011. We'll just have to wait and see how well this theme sells.

Actually, there probably should be another impulse out there also called Race 9, because you can't have a race with only one racer!

These definitely look like they could be interesting - I'm getting a really strong Wacky Racers meets Mad Max vibe from 8864, and Wreckage Road looks like a good, fun set. I'll definitely be picking up some of these sets - even if it's just for the new printed helmets
