Interesting comment on 2 million US households accounting for 50% of sales. Is Lego really perceived as a product for 'braniacs' in the US? Here in the UK it seems to have a much wider appeal.

Thanks for the link LMM. :classic:

Interesting article and video too. To be honest, it's the first time that I actually hear with my own ears the word AFOL.

I recognized two Lego employees in the video. First Jørgen Vig (CEO) and second the designer known as Nabii in the AFOL community. He is seen wearing a black shirt with red graphics about half a minute into the video.

I think only one of them is a member on Eurobricks

Thanks 'Legomymamma' for finding this very interesting video clip. :sweet:

I wonder how they know how many of us AFOL's there are in the world ?

Also I wonder if anything we say or our MOD's or MOC's we post end up on someones desk in Denmark.

In a word, yes. If you like and "play" with Lego, you'll most likely be called a nerd by the narrow-minded in the US. :hmpf_bad:

Anyways, nice find, LegoMyMamma. They pointed out that TLG had a really close connection with its fans, which is really a great luxury to have. The AFOL (or "affel") community can help TLG design sets that will in turn be sold to the AFOLs. I like how much influence we can have.

And I agree that that narrator needs to take some cough medicine...

Sadly this is true in the U.S. For example, the only times I've seen LEGO advertisements on television are on 'kids' channels (Cartoon Network, Nickolodeon, etc...) or on niche science related channels such as Discovery Science and SyFy.

Your comment has nothing to do with what you quoted, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon are not science channels, they are cjildrens programming which makes perfect sense, since LEGO's are childrens building toys. And what do these channels ahe to do with Braniacs??
