LegoMyMamma Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 (edited) Wonder if any EB AFOLs are in the accompanying video http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB1000...NDEyNDQyWj.html ~LMM Edited December 24, 2009 by LegoMyMamma Quote
Kernow Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Interesting comment on 2 million US households accounting for 50% of sales. Is Lego really perceived as a product for 'braniacs' in the US? Here in the UK it seems to have a much wider appeal. Quote
Zorbas Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Thanks for the link LMM. Interesting article and video too. To be honest, it's the first time that I actually hear with my own ears the word AFOL. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Why do they say acronyms as words? Apart from nearly dying of boredom due to the somewhat un-animated (or should we say re-animated) narrator, that was interesting. Quote
Front Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) I recognized two Lego employees in the video. First Jørgen Vig (CEO) and second the designer known as Nabii in the AFOL community. He is seen wearing a black shirt with red graphics about half a minute into the video. I think only one of them is a member on Eurobricks Edited December 25, 2009 by Front Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Thanks 'Legomymamma' for finding this very interesting video clip. I wonder how they know how many of us AFOL's there are in the world ? Also I wonder if anything we say or our MOD's or MOC's we post end up on someones desk in Denmark. Quote

Anyways, nice find, LegoMyMamma. They pointed out that TLG had a really close connection with its fans, which is really a great luxury to have. The AFOL (or "affel") community can help TLG design sets that will in turn be sold to the AFOLs. I like how much influence we can have. And I agree that that narrator needs to take some cough medicine... Quote

Sadly this is true in the U.S. For example, the only times I've seen LEGO advertisements on television are on 'kids' channels (Cartoon Network, Nickolodeon, etc...) or on niche science related channels such as Discovery Science and SyFy. Your comment has nothing to do with what you quoted, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon are not science channels, they are cjildrens programming which makes perfect sense, since LEGO's are childrens building toys. And what do these channels ahe to do with Braniacs?? Quote
