MOC: VW Beetle

I have been wanting to make a VW Beetle-MOC for a long time, but I had no idea how to make it look accurate. However, I asked member and MOC Expert Ralph_S to build one too, as he is my favourite car builder, and he said yes. Excited of the thought that I might beat my fav builder in a build competition, I actually got a fair few ideas. I combined the best ones (duh), and eventually ended up with this.

Time for the pics:

I chromed the bumpers myself. However, the colour I used wears off if you touch it often, so it´s only good for display models.

Yes, I´ve modified that piece. :blsuh: It´s the best looking solution I could find for the back.

That black piece resembles the roof hatch (look at a pic of a real model). However it looks kinda out of place, so I´m thinking of replacing it with a white one.

I consider myself pretty good at finding different solutions for steering wheel connections. I´m using a new one in this MOC:

Being a former Beetle owner I think it's beautiful !

It's very hard to get the shape right using Lego but you have done a fantastic job !

It's minifig though is it ?

Looks great, you've put some nice things in it. The chrome is very nice.

I'm missing the big VW logo though. Perhaps a decal might work?

It's a beauty, fresh from the VW factory, at least it looks like it is.

What strikes me most about this is how despite the very different ways in which we built our Beetles, both look recognisably like the real thing. Yours looks really nice from the front -nicer than mine- and very nice from the back as well. The curved bricks you used for the front mudguards are a nice idea, but are very hard to blend into the rest of the car. I'm amazed you managed to put a steering wheel into it. I had no room whatsoever.

Currrrrvy!!! Good job on the front there For some reason, I get the feeling it's a bit longish, but it may just be me - pretty often the models look totally different in person than when photographed. The chrome bumpers are a great touch, well done!

I think the 45 slopes make them blend in pretty well, but I guess that´s a matter of taste as well.

Yeah, I agree the front looks a bit long on some of the pics, but it isn´t really, look at the bird´s view pic.

After reading Ralph_S' topic I realized you had a little 'building competition'. You certainly managed to capture the round front in a pretty realistic way. Too bad it can't seat a minifig: it doesn't blend in as well with 'System' Lego as Ralph_S'

Especially the view from the front of the car is very impressive. Having a father that owns 5 Beetles I've seen probably more Beetles than the average person on this planet. Modifying a piece to build the behind is a bit unusual (and something I usually try to avoid), but I'm not a purist so great job overall
