Hello to my review of the 7134 A-Wing Fighter!

First some informations:

The instruction:

Random page - look at the red marked pictures of the A-Wing scene in "Return of the Jedi" (I think, it's a nice detail)

Minifigures and accessories:

Pilot, repairemen and box (I get it with the white cap, normaly there's a old gray)

Printed Pieces - The display with the bridge of an imperial star destroyer and the two pieces with the emblem of the rebel alliance.

The functions: Opening cockpit, opening cargo-place and moveable blasters

Design: 4/10 There's a "Classic Space feeling" but the newer version is better.

Price: 7/10 19 Euros - that's okay

Minifigures: 8/10 They're real nice, the pilot has a nice printed helmet

Playability: 6/10 Much functions in so a small set, but most of them are needless

Average: 6,25/10 That's a good valuation for a 10 years old set!

Heh. That's exactly why I like the old ones better. They still look like LEGO®. And not like a standard model toy. But everyone has his own taste and opinion.

I also liked this set because it still had printed pieces, not stickers. But please, could you resize those images? They takes ages to load, and one is even 3000+ pixels. It's also important to not only reduce the dimensions of the image but also the physical file size. That makes a good review much more fun to read.

The pics are alot better now that they have been resized.

This set, was a really nice set, but I prefer the 2006 one better.

Really nice review. I never got this set but it looks pretty interesting. I'm wondering id you have the newer 2006 version? If so you should add a comparison shot possibly. If not still really good review for a pretty decent set.

@Forresto: No, sadly I don´t own the newer version, but if I´d buy it, I´d make some comparison shots

I'm surprised to see, that you all like this set. On a german Lego star wars forum all said "nice review of a not so nice set".

The older SW sets had a lot more character in my opinion, the way older video games with their blocky characters are so much more endearing than the uncanny-valley we're subject to today. The original A-wing was one of my first star wars sets, and one of my favorites. I had two, and along with my three flash speeders were the few duplicates I had. The minifigs were great, I just wish ten year old me had taken better care of them, as in keeping them built in separate boxes and not drawing on them in sharpie...

still, old SW sets get me all fuzzy inside. Those were the good ol' days.

There has already been a poll set up for this set which I reviewed earlier in the year. I think the response was that this set was pretty average.

I too feel this is more a classic space set than a Star Wars one, but hey you gotta start somewhere !

The 2006 and 2009 (Home One) A-wings look a lot better and that box thing I think it's part of the engine, like you can remove that in the Home One set.

I suspect the mechanic is carrying that new 'hydro-spanner-screwdriver', heavy duty type for fuel line replacement and repulsorlift/hyperdrive adjustment.

The pilot minifig is the coolest part of the set and in green too, not a normal space colour.

The A-Wing is one of my most favourite Star Wars vehicles and I have a bit of a history with the Lego sets:

Before I was even interested in SW, I wanted this set, when I set out to get it, it was sold out. So I got the old Snowspeeder instead. But I always regretted not having the A-Wing and when I heard a new version was coming (in 2006 I think), I was very excited. As soon as I saw it in a shop, I grabbed one, even though at the time I was on holiday in Norway. And now I`m happy, finally having an A-Wing.
