Francis Dampierre Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hi guys. After seeing the soon-to-be-released Imperial Flagship, I decided Brickbeard's Bounty needed a mod or two to get ready for her upcoming battle. I saw a mod on the forum a while ago by Rick I think, where he added a deck to the Bounty in tan plates. I modded it similarly, by adding a deck, but I used brown plates rather than tan and raised the rails a stud's height. But the rails are the main problem: I can't decide on a color for them! I've come down to two available colors: brown and black. Here are some pictures of either choice: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Francis-...es/img_1298.jpg This is with the brown 1x1 cylinders. I think it matches the pattern of the hull better. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Francis-...es/img_1299.jpg This is with black. I think THIS one matches the other rails better. Now for a side view of each: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Francis-...es/img_1297.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Francis-...es/img_1301.jpg Now there's two more factors for me to consider in making my choice: (a) if I use the brown bricks, I have a healthy stock of black bricks to use as cannonballs. (b) if I use the black bricks, I have plenty of brown bricks to make small palm trees with. I know it's shameful how few bricks I have, but that's my situation. Any tips on which I should choose? Also, if you can think of a completely different color scheme for the rails, please let me know, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance Quote
saberwing Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I think the brown one looks best. But that's just a matter of opinion. Maybe you could try some dark red cylinders? That would match the captains cabin, and the flaps that hang in front of the cannons. Quote
Rick Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I don't think dark red would look good (and you probably won't have the parts anyway). Both of these look fine. I think one color for the rails would be most realistic (in your case black, because the tiles on top are black), but the brown looks fine as well. Quote
Francis Dampierre Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 I think one color for the rails would be most realistic (in your case black, because the tiles on top are black), but the brown looks fine as well. That's what I thought too. Dark red might look pretty cool (where would I find 16 maroon bricks? ), but i think that the total black matches the other rails better. My pictures are blurry, but the place where the rail meets the black arches on the cabin front looks really cool in black. And in terms of having enough black bricks, I should just place a PaB order. Thanks for the tips, guys! Quote
Pthrelical Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hey Francis. In my opinion, and if it's possible for you, using dark red 1x1 cylinders would match the color scheme of the ship the most. If dark red isn't possible, I would go for black, giving you plenty of palm tree trunks, and also matching the cannon and masts' color. Brown in the other hand gives a little too much brown for the ship. But either way, your ship looks pretty good! Quote
Aquila D'oro Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) at the stern/back of the ship they use black skeleton legs to hold a black lance/rod, you could try that if you didnt want the rails to look too chunky, oddly enough they do use those maroon 1x1 cylinders beneith skeleton legs as well.... Admiral Woodhouse Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Tough choice between black and brown. You could also try tan, that's what I'm doing to my ship. Quote
AND3RSEN Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 personally id rather use black because it looks more realistic because the bottom and top of the railing is black... Quote
Zorro Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Looks good, but I moved this to the correct MOC discussion forum. Please take a quick look at our Site Guidelines before posting, thanks ! Quote
