Inertia Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Well, Ebay often isn't as cheap as they say. Many of the starting prices for the bigger sets are ridiculously high. But in my case it wasn't the starting price that was high, but there were a few persistent bidders who also wanted the set, and I had to fight till the final seconds to win the bid, causing the price to climb up very steeply. There was another bid for a big Adventures set, which I bid for £5.00, but which ended in £45.00. I'm glad I didn't go into that race. But I think I've learned my lesson now. Ahh, the wonders of ebay! Was the Adventurers set the Egyptian one, it normally goes for crazy prices, I've seen 75 pounds as the highest. Just type in 'LEGO Space Monorail' and see the prices for that set... Got the RGS, wonderful set. Quote
simonwillems Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I had a delightful vacation: travelled through Europe by train and managed to find some good old Lego, here we go: King Kahuka Forbidden Cove And the best: Rocky River Retreat! All in a little shop in Northern France that I visited before, three years ago, nothing had changed there... In the Legostore in Hamburg I bought the (not available in the Netherlands) Indiana Jones set with the little tent and also two packages of this: It is a keychain with a rope that can hold letters, I bought it of course for the round bricks with letters. They have a dual print and are just as useful as the 1x1 tiles that came in a different letterpack-and-keyring combination. The Legostore in Hamburg was well sorted: they had the 10187 new Volkswagen Beetle (€129.99), the entire new Star Wars collection and the Indiana Jones 7628 Airplane (shop at home exclusive!) for €64.99 Quote
Fluyt Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Got 2 BL orders in today, not really cheap unfortunately, but I finally got my islander female (so I now have all the lego pirate torso's) and I got 5 complete lattice windows (10 panes (white)). And hopefully I'll be getting 2 48 x 48 light gray baseplates, so I can start my harbour (which still is a long way to go, since I work kinda slow and still have to buy at least some more windows and a couple of entire roofs). chris_austin Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 (edited) Well it's my birthday today and i've been building up a small load of sets over the past 2 months to treat myself! I haven't bought any new sets for a long time (a year or 2) because I can only afford used sets, so it's been a lot of fun so far! This morning i've built the new 7681 Separatist Spider Droid and 7678 Droid Gunship (an awesome playset). Later on i've got 7666 Hoth Rebel Base, 7662 MTT and 101 Super Battle Droids to put together oh and a 7671 AT-AP Walker Edited August 6, 2008 by chris_austin Quote
skelliesgang Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 (edited) today i was browsing the thrift store and came across a "the batman" tin box w/ a transparent window containing what looked like random/loose lego pieces. unfortunately the box was sealed so i could not shift through its actual contents but at $3 i went ahead and purchased the item. when i got home and rummaged through the tinbox i became excited as i discovered FIVE minifigs and realized the "loose" pieces were actually from 2 different sets. sorting through the lego i was able to build to completion: 7009 Castle: The Final Joust and 3830 Spongebob: The Bikini Bottom Express! two sets combined retail $28 for $3! woot! simonwillems Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I recently bought the 8293 power functions pack and I am really pleased with it! Those new lights are powerful LED's and really light the way in front of the tracked vehicle I have built them into. Also they do not affect the speed of the motors when used together. Quote
