It's not really "buying" (unless you count paying the sales taxes) but my birthday is in January so I have a modern tradition of saving up my VIP points throughout the year and cashing them in after New Year's as a present for myself. This weekend I got:

10243 Parisian Restaurant

10233 (another) Horizon Express

79013 Lake Town Chase

21019 Eiffel Tower

and a K-box of parts for a large MOC I'm working on

Not a bad haul for "freebies" (let's just not mention to my wife how much I spent last year to get all those VIP points  )

Shay,

That is quite a tradition! That shows an enormous amount of self discipline to not use your points throughout the year.

Of course, our lips are sealed!

We just built PR and the new Eiffel Tower, and they are both first class. Looks like you will have a busy weekend coming up with all the building.

All.

I just received two very old Duplo sets in great condition off eBay, 2754 and 2756, the kitchen and bathroom, from a wonderful seller, gilmark, who threw in two extra kitchens, all for a total of under $20. plus shipping. Nice dealing with such a great seller. These pieces will fit perfectly in my Duplo playhouses!

Almost finished building new sets that have been sitting on the floor for way too long. It looks like 2014 will be the year that my LEGO end up in the same room in usable condition with access to containers that have been moved several times during renovations over the past two years. It will be great to focus on building my own stuff rather than new sets. At some point I guess we just need to stop buying for a while and focus on building; it is hard to do with so many cool sets coming out every month or so. Fortunately there are more than enough new AFOLs out there to pick up the slack in buying if some of us decide to do our own builds for awhile. (This could lead us to the slippery question of how much LEGO is enough...a place we don't want to go for sure!)

For the past year I have focused more on visiting Legoland Parks for the first time rather than buying sets. This is even harder on the wallet than buying sets because the Parks are so spread out. And it takes times as well to visit each Park. My focus has been on enjoying the Parks and not buying LEGO there. It has been a worthwhile experience and has given me a greater appreciation of LEGO.

I spotted 79107 Commanche Camp at 75% off of the sale price in my local indie toystore today. Less than £5 so not a bad deal, and my first Lone Ranger set too. Brings back fond memories of the old Western theme.

After checking my "bag" on S@H/US, I found that the 8110 Mercedes-Benz Unimog was removed and set on "call for availability". I just did so and the lady said she found ONE left in the database. I'm not sure how their system works or it's accuracy, but I hope I'm still able to get it. I also bought the 40058 Decorating the Tree and received a free 30228 Police ATV and The LEGO Movie poster :classic:

4 CMF LEGO Movie series (Marsha, Gail, Abe Lincoln and Larry the Barrista) then a specific Emmet and Wyldstyle minifig from sets via bricklink (not the CMF one).

Can't say I'm a big fan of the lego movie sets or figures, but I saw the new movie series of minifigs today and felt around for Wyld here as I adore that outfit and fan

Fred Meyer had a Buy Two Get One Free sale on ALL LEGO sets. Yes, all. So I went kinda nuts.

70802 Super Cycle Chase

70808 Bad Cop's Pursuit

60060 Auto Transporter (free)

60057 Camper Van

60059 Logging Truck

60042 High Speed Police Chase (free)

$120 for $170 worth of sets. Getting 60042 free was nice because otherwise it's a terrible value - $20 for 110 pieces.
