hurdy-gurdy pirate Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Hi everyone! First, sorry about the english. I just came out of my dark ages and I am building my first ship and MOC as an AFOL. I am not near from done even if I've been working on it for six months. It took me a lot of time, but when I started I had none of the bricks you can see on those pictures. I didn't know about bricklink, so I had to pay almost 80$ only to get the hull pieces from e-bay... Anyway, before I make my next bricklink order, I wanted to know what you guys think about what I have made so far. I'd like to add a third color for decorations, but I don't see which would go along well with that color scheme. Maybe I will reduce the number of cannon ports, but if I do so, I will have to change the whole building concept or to divide the number of cannons by two... Please let me know what you think and thanks to everyone in this forum who gave me some inspiration. Sorry about the quality of the photos, but I am not good at taking pictures. Santa was good with me and gave me a camera last christmas, but I still need to practice with it. Quote
maydayartist Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 White would be good addition to your exist colorscheme. It is a realistic combination and not so excessive. Good luck on your next phase. The existing middle section looks very well so far!! Quote
Jack Bricker Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I have to say that your ship looks awsome. I really like black gunports on the yellow. That looks really nice. I also like the brown flooring and everthing else looks sooooo cool. I would reduce the number of guns just a little bit. Put three studs between each gun instead of two and you would have more space to work with but would still have a powerful ship. Or you could just lengthen the hull and go with four studs between the ports. I do think that if you halved the number of guns the ship wouldn't look as impressive as it does now. P.S. Your pictures are pretty good in my opinion. Good luck the the rest of the ship. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I can't say it better. Although I have discovered something what uld be changed, and that is to make the gunports offset. Like a chessboard, black above white. And in this case black (gunport) above yellow. Some less cannons add more realism, and I'm looking forward to see the stern and bow. Good luck! Quote
hurdy-gurdy pirate Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 Thanks for the comments. Put three studs between each gun instead of two and you would have more space to work with but would still have a powerful ship. Or you could just lengthen the hull and go with four studs between the ports. to make the gunports offset. I think that the best thing to do would be to leave 4 studs between each gun port. That way, I could make them offset. But there is a problem with that : each cannon occupies 4 studs wide because they are mounted on rails. After every 16 or 8 studs, the level of the floor changes. You can also see that the width of the ship changes (16 studs away from the mast). The way I found to access the interior of the ship is to make every 2 mid sections removable. Because of those limitations, the only way I could reduce the number of guns would be to put only one cannon every 8 studs... Quote
Ras 74 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 The start of your ship is very good indeed! But it looks like it is snowing indoors at your place I like how you built it in sections. That is not a construction saying at all. But I think you could get that much better from other members here. You can always go here to see others attemt at great designs of their ships. Quote
