NorthernKnight Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Thank you Captain Blackmoor It's the same basic design as those used in the classical world, although they usually had two or four horses. There are two more shots of it in the "Post Your Castle Army Here!" thread. Quote
the lead general Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Thats my favorite RTS of all time! *hi5* What's RTS? Quote
KurttKrueger Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 What's RTS? Real Time Strategy. Its a genre of video game. Quote
Steel Dragon Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 What's RTS? Real Time Strategy it is. Sorry for being vague/offtopic. ONtopic, I think the idea of elephants is a good one. They may be hard to come by, though... I only have two Trorcs (love that name!), so mounts aren't exactly necessary. Plus one has a horse anyway, being a "sensitized" trorc fellow. Quote
supertoad64 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 The idea to have them use siege weapons as a substitute for mounted cavalry seems to be the best idea. All the other creatures are pretty expensive on Bricklink now, and depending on the way you have developed your factions, may not look right. Are you using the orc minifigs as they are presented by Lego (with the same torsos/helmets/etc)? Because if you dress them up a little (black armor and helmets), they may not look too barbaric to ride a black horse. It's too bad Lego hasn't released a more rustic looking horse armor that would work well for orcs using horses. All the horse helmets are pretty regal for orcs to have believably fashioned. I think the HP line had a dark gray variant of the dragon masters horse helmet that might look good for this purpose, though. Quote
Etzel Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 My fellow SweBrick member robban brought this very nice orc village to our latest event, including these orc+dino cavalry: PIC-LINK Works very nice in my opinion if you're fine with high fantasy. Quote

And because of those, I had to shop me 3 dinos on BL Quote

UsernameMDM Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 There are also the triceratops from the Adventurers line: Quote
KurttKrueger Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 Well, thats 2x 6722 Styracosaurus bought off of Bricklink. Now to work on a design for the howdah. Quote

Have more barbaric or warrior like armor. The current horse armors look all regal like you said. Other horse gear would make them match well with the less royal minifigs like orcs and other "barbaric" minifigs. Quote
KurttKrueger Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Ok, so my Bricklink order of two Styracosaurus arrived today, so I set about making a howdah for them. They're inspired by the ones pictures earlier in the thread. LINK I couldn't make out the detail of the howdah's enough to copy them, so went with my own design. I wanted it big enough to house four Trolls, plus equipment. Forgive the colour mismatches on the prototype, I'll put a Bricklink order in to build them proper, as I salavged most parts from my Troll Warship. Anyway, heres the pics. I've called it a Troll Stegadon: Let me know what you guys think, or if you can see anywhere where it can be improved. Quote
gogobig Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Kurt very nice design, I really like it. Ill let you know once I get my non-lego beasts and crate cavalry out of'em. As much as I admire lego, imagination has no limit and therefore, I will give my idea a shot :D Ill keep you posted Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 He is too adorable for Trorc cavalary xD Hmmm I think I will get one of this dinos, they looks preety awesome! Quote
burkey42 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Have a look at some ideas I've had: Troll Cav and Troll Ellies and First Dark Orc Idea Quote
KurttKrueger Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Have a look at some ideas I've had:Troll Cav and Troll Ellies and First Dark Orc Idea Thats some awesome stuff burkey42! I love the elephants. And the group shot at the bottom is very cool. Great idea using dogs as attack hounds! Very Troll/Orcish. I put in a big BL order for my Stegadons, so hopefully have something to show in an army style format next week. Quote

Talon Karrde Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Have any of you created units of Troll cavalry, and if so, what mounts have you used, and what accessories? While horses would obviously work, they don't seem to fit in with the theme of the Trolls, at least to me anyway. Here is something I created, probably not what you're looking for, very parts intensive too - but still perhaps something to think upon. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Here's a cool one with a dewback (big pics)! Quote
UsernameMDM Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Well, I have two dinos and a dewback coming my way. I'll post pics when I get them all dolled up. Quote
Huntleyfx Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Personally, I'm partial to the new(er) dark green crocodiles, they make excellent mounts, and when massed, (with chains) they make a good propulsion system for the Troll Warship. Quote
lisqr Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 My troll ride idea. Maybe not so much of a cavalry. Quote
cooky321 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Hi, Im totally loving the dinosaur use! While I was surfing bricklink, i came across a troll green dinosaur with a long neck, I was thinking, if there was a grip point in the mouth you could use it as a kind of massive spear. Just an idea. Quote
Golbolco Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I always thought they would use whatever they could catch. Quote
