I don't know about you guys, but this temple is really starting to give me the heebie-jeebies. I never believed in any of this stuff, but Dark Gems, these dang Devil Statues, a Silver Sword. This place smells like demons just waiting to come to life during an eclipse to make mince meat out of us.

Maybe there's something inside it? I would suggest smashing it, perhaps with the sword, but if it turns out it works as some sort of key later on, we wouldn't be able to use it. I guess we could see what everyone else has to say on this matter?

If anyone starts hearing a soft splintery crunching sound, it's probably just Stanton's bones and skull cracking as the dark gem transmutes his body into a demon-host like the statue we saw earlier. Just pointing this out now so you don't all panic when the eclipse hits.

To clarify - I was talking about the gem, not the statue or our tour guide.

*The statue is carved from, what appears to be, solid bone-now petrified. There are some tiny chunks missing, but no markings or inscriptions. There is nothing that looks like a switch or lever although the beast has several appendages:

*

Carved from bone aye? Interesting. And it represents a demon of hell? Even more interesting...

Diesel looks around suspiciously.

Ah well, I'm sure our tour guide has done this tour numerous times before and has never encountered anything strange or odd. I don't suppose you can tell us about what happened to those family members who went missing on a previous tour, Johnson?

*How would you like to investigate the walls?*

I would like to forcefully push at the walls, and look for any stones that stick out in particular, and push/pull them if I see them. If not then I'll leave it. I was thinking maybe there are some hidden stairs behind them or something. Seems possible.

I'd like to see if it fits with the ring at all, meaning in the center, or on the hilt of the sword, if Diesil will allow me to.

Good idea! I would like to inspect the sword again to see if there are any likely spots the gem will fit into. I have the feeling it goes somewhere else however...

Um, Might I be able to check the parchment? It may be grandmother's hadwrighting again...

*holds up pendant* Do the gems match at all?

I want to check the parchment and gem, not take. Just see if they are similar to the earlier parchment and my gem

Has anyone had any luck with the anagram? I came up with a list of 8 letter words that seem like likely candidates for the third word, maybe this will spark some ideas?

You forgot "R E T A R D E D" - just in case it's part of an important clue.

Stop scaring me! :look:

Sure, ma'am. :sweet:

I'd like to hand the gem to Penny so she can inspect it all she wants.

Take your time, I'm in no rush to be killed by demons.

The anagram should be out top priority, if we are going to make any sense of the gem, I think. I can't make any sense of it myself, though I'm fairly sure the first word is "the". I admit it ain't much to go by, but it whittles things down at least a little. The next thing we can look at is the eight lettered word. How does that other fellows words look to you?

And actually, I believe Baxter found it, and I was the first to grab it... but I'll hold on to it; I feel a connection...

Fine by me, the last thing I need is to be cursed, or haunted by my fellow soldiers fallen in battle. :look:

Like I said before, I think the first word is "the", or perhaps "red", and the second last is "is", "he", or "an". The second word might be "dark", "moon", or "ring". I was thinking the final word might be "awake".

The Dark Restored is awake...

The Dark Whispers is Awake...

Red Moon controls...

Red Moon awakens an animal... wait, that's six letters...

Red Moon awakened is beasty....

The ring inserted in _____....

...

Hm...

Good suggestions, but you'll notice "See pages hired fast sword" is also written there. What I assumed is you'd rearrange the letters of "See pages hired fast sword" into a sentence that fits the _ _ _ | _ _ _ _ | _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | _ _ | _ _ _ _ _ pattern. Your suggestions don't fit the anagram, sorry. Not that I have any suggestions myself... :sceptic:

Ha!

Hey, I like you, Willoughby. We have quite the similar personality. Snarky, and witty, in a way that no one else seems to understand.

Let's be friends, Mr. Willoughby. In the words of a traitorous dancer my father, it's always good to have friends in any situation. :sweet:

Awwwwww! But that could take hours! :sadnew: Where's the fun in that?

Oh, wait, to figure this out, we're going to have to use the ol' chalupa... :sceptic:

Likewise Stan. Now let's get these cryptograms solved.

*Diesel pushes the walls and looks for loose stones. The wall is very solid and neither budges nor produces any loose stones.*

*Penny checks the parchment. It appears again to be very similar to her grandmother's handwriting.*

*Checking the dark gem with her own, she realizes they are identical except for the color. The dark gem is dark green and her gem is bright red.*

*None of these 8 letter words are correct.*

*Penny hands the gem back to Stanton.*

This place gives me the creeps, but while I've been quiet I've been thinking about that anagram;

The Safe Password is Greed ?

It makes sense... but there's no safe!

Oh my! I feel useful again! Sorry about sleeping all this time, for some reason this place feels so hot...

Maybe I should try shouting it?

I really love that statue! The craftmanship is stunning. It's a shame it's so hard to make as otherwise I'd have someone craft up a copy.

Using my advanced Kegel techniques, I can generate sufficient pressure to turn a slice of burnt toast into a diamond the size of your fist in minutes :sadnew:

I would like to see that. I have some toast right here, but it's only browned on one side. Does that make a difference?

Nice job Siegourney!

Why thanks. I do have some experience with this kind of thing. My father used to hide my pocket money around the house with only anagrams as clues. I must confess though that it aided my combat skills more than my language as I tended to beat up the servants for clues...

Now let's move on before those creepy demons come running this way.

Or worse still, another anagram... :sing:

Johnson Willoughby gathers everyone together to continue the tour. Just as they're about to leave the Guard House, a low moan seems to emit from the very walls. It turns into a soft rumble and for a split second the whole temple appears to shake. William holds his daughter close while Diesel, standing closer to Donna, instinctively positions himself in front of his mother-in-law protecting her. Diana awkwardly puts a soccer-Mom arm across Quentin's chest. Stanton looks to his Dad to see if he's doing OK. Jack Baxter thinks quickly and throws himself and Stanton into an archway for protection. But, it's all unnecessary. The momentary quake is almost over before it's started.

johnson.jpg

"Heh he" Johnson Willoughby laughs tentatively, "The old temple is known to settle a bit from time to time. I never imagined it would settle so violently, but I'm sure that's all it was. Shall we continue with the tour?"

As the group heads up the staircase for the continuation of the tour, a wolf howls in the distance...

diana.jpg

"Sorry young man. I have a son of my own back home. You remind me of him. It was just a mother's instinct."

donna.jpg

"Thank you Diesel."

diesel.jpg

"Eh, don't mention it."
