LegoLover Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Everybody knew it was gona be based on the Revolution controller, and it was! Today, Nintendo revealed the redesigned of the Nintendo DS. Going by the title of DS Lite, this design features the sleek white style of the Nintendo Revolutions controller. This new design is smaller and lighter (hence the name) than the original. Contrast and compare: ---------Width------Length---Thickness----Weight DS------149 mm---84.7-----28.99 thick---275g DSLite--133 mm---73.9-----21.5 thick-----218g The user will be able to select one of four LCD Screen brightness settings, which gives them control over battery consumption. Overall, the console has brighter screens than the original. The speakers have been centered, and the power/wireless lights have been placed next to the newly designed hinge and are visible when the DSLite is closed. The microphone has also been repositioned to under the top screen, where it is in the center. A nice embossed DS logo is visible on the front of the DS and the start/select buttons have been moved down and above each other. The power button is now a flick switch on the side of the unit. All the buttons on the DS Lite are now squishier than they were before and the stylus slides in to the side instead of the top. It's heading for the Japanese market on March 2nd this year. No word yet about any other markets. It's said to be going for 16,800 yen (about $145, 118 Euro, Quote
LegoLover Posted January 26, 2006 Author Posted January 26, 2006 sorry for the double post can every one see it oh i know whats wrong ill fix it in a sec Quote
optimus-convoy Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Oooo pretty :oo. But I probably won't buy it, it's been barely a year and a half since I got the original. Quote
Legokid Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I just saw this on G4tv and I might get it even though I already have a normal DS. Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Like with the Gameboy SP/Micro, I once again blame Nintendo for releasing a superior version when I already have the original version. All they want to do with this new DS is make more money, even though the old one is still fine. I don't like it... Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Is the Power button on the side? It has to be...I don see it on the front and I don't think Nintendo forces you to leave it on all the time :P Would be nice though, a bit more like the GBA (SP). Although I did find the power button on the front pretty charming. Quote
Evil Willy Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Hmm im not going to buy a gameboy but I would like to see it and the pictures not working..Anyone got a good pic? Quote
Zane Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 It's really not that different...oh well. www.dsnews.co.uk TT Quote
LegoLover Posted January 27, 2006 Author Posted January 27, 2006 the power button is on the side so people would not press it by accident yes this does happen to some people Quote
Zane Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Yeah...I pressed it instead of 'Start' once..... TT Quote
Cutty Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 now that my sister has a ds I might get a lite if the price flatters my skinny wallet...preferably with a bunch of roses, a diamond-laden gold tiara and some belgian chocolate...gee I am dreaming again. I just think design-wise Nintendo takes a step in the right direction (which is Revolution) but kicks customer-butts who just about recently bought a ds "first edition"... I just hope they implement GBA-linking in this ds version...but hope dies first, doesn't it? Quote

If they can now, why not on the original DS? Then again, I do own a normal GBA and an SP...but still, I kinda feel stabbed in the back for being a first-wave buyer now... Quote

Absolutely right Cutty, I just misread that. I didn't consider the "hope dies" part to be the question, sice it's more something you have an opinion about. I thought the question was if it had GBA-link or not *wacko* I still feel stabbed in the back though, just as I felt when the GBA SP (and Micro) were released. If they can make them that good, why not on the first attempt? Quote
JoeMI6 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I wanted it instead of my regular DS, but when i found out it didn't have the GBA slot, it was a definite no. Quote

hewkii9 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Lite? What is this, a soda company? Boo. Nintendo sucks. Buy a PSP and be able to watch movies and Crazy Frog. Quote
Lost Viking Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Dude, why bring up a month old topic like this and say something like that? It will just spark arguments. If you want to say something like that go to another forum. Quote
SuvieD Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Lite? What is this, a soda company? Boo. Nintendo sucks. Buy a PSP and be able to watch movies and Crazy Frog. Which system out sells the other? Which system is in such demand that it cannot be produced fast enough? Which system has multiple million unit selling games? Say what you want the facts say that PSP sucks and that Nintendo roxors. You sound like one of those media brain washed Sony fanboys. I just heard about the DS lite and from what I heard it is not only better than the original DS but the screen brightness is even better than the PSP. PSP does not compare. Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 hewkii, go act like a stupid fanboy somewhere else please. I'm a Nintendo fanboy too but at least I try not to be anti-Sony in public... The DS is outselling the PSP by far...and who would want to watch Crazy Frog? :-X As for on-topicness, I ran into video review comparing the 'old' DS to the DS Lite. Look at how much brighter the screen is! *wub* Quote
JoeMI6 Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 That video annoys me. I really want a DS lite now. But I guess it's the same thing that happens all over the place. Ipod did it with the mini and nano and now Nintendo are just improving on a good product. I think I'll just stick with my chunky DS. The one thing that hasn't changed is the best thing about a DS. The gameplay. Even the original DS is better than the PSP. The Lite just rubs that in Sony's face. :-P Quote
