cavegod Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 i will weigh all the parts later and let you know the total weight so far, the breaking strain of the ankles is about 12lbs before they give way. Quote
sigpro Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 With "the breaking strain of the ankles is about 12lbs before they give way" you mean that 12 lbs per leg is the maximum weight the ankles can stand? Will the legs be poseable? I say, can you move the legs? Thanks! Quote

Thanks! yep 12lbs per ankle, the legs only have 2 poseable positions, the knees do not bend and studying rockos i don't see how his can bend either, his does have the hinges in the knees but the curved slopes on the sides will prevent them from bending. cavegod Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Ok total weight so far including the head is 5.538KG Quote
cavegod Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 just when you think you are getting somewhere you notice inacurate details!! done so far legs x 4 feet x 4 ankles x 4 head x 1 main frame/hips x1 front drive motor x 1 left side x 1 right side x 1 started on the top and redesigned the front top although not built fully yet. the rear sides have been enlrged by 1 stud vertically and 2 studs in length to make it nearly spot on with the movie model where as rockos is not completely accurate. it's created a huge problem for me when building the rear top slope but i will tackle that when i get round to it. my design for the neck works so i have that to finish it only gives me a few degrees left and right but better than non?? Quote
sigpro Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I will wait to know the total weight when it is finished. Up to know you must build -roof (three, I suppose, front, medium and rear) -front and rear side. I suppose that the frame is where the roof and sides will hold, Am I right? And don´t forget the minifigs! Congratulations anyway! Quote
cavegod Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 the frame just holds the sides and they hold the roofs. or so thats the theory. Quote
cavegod Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 Well my neck idea won't work as intended due to the head being so heavy! so i have changed it slightly and hopefully this will work will post pictures later. Quote
KimT Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Best of luck with that. I've never had to fight the weight of a model, so I can't give any great advice. Can't wait to see more pics of your work. Quote
CommanderFox Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Looking incredible so far cavegod! Man that thing is Heavy! Its looking very accurate! Nice job, looking forward to seeing the finished product! CommanderFox Quote
cavegod Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 Ok Some bad pics of progress any questions just ask. Quote
Walter Kovacs Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Nice work so far, cavegod. I love the details under the main body. The neck looks very good, too. Is it going to be able to hold the weight of the head? Have you tested that yet, or is that something you're going to tackle when the time comes? Also, is the head going to have movement up and done, or just side to side? I might have missed this earlier in the thread, and for that, I apologise. Quote
Sid Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Are you just working on the frame and neck now? As you have the exterior pretty much finished? Or are you starting over. Nice work so far, seems to be a fun project. Quote
cavegod Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 yes i can confirm that it does support the weight of the head but alas it cannot tilt up and down, allthough a few of those pneumatic spring pistons would make the head weight neutral if i was to add that feature...........(starts to ponder the idea.... )it would be easy to mod the head joint to pivot up/down Are you just working on the frame and neck now? As you have the exterior pretty much finished? Or are you starting over. Nice work so far, seems to be a fun project. The frame was built at the start i am just changing a few things and adding strength and also details of the drive motors, underneath etc Quote
cavegod Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 having had the AT-AT stood up for a few days i decided i din't loke the rear sides so have rebuilt them again for the 4th time, i am almost happy with them so will post pictures later for your comments. Quote
cavegod Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 ok a few pictures for you to look at and correct me where i have made mistakes. ok first off the revised sides although still not happy with them. right side Left side the rear end so far The roof and a few pics of the belly not finished yet but dont want too much more weight! comments welcome! prateek Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Awesome job so far! I really love the belly details Quote
Sid Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 looks great so far. I haven't paid attention to the real AT-AT so I can't tell how accurate yours is, but it does look good. Good job on tackling such a big project. Quote
KimT Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Wow, this really is turning out a thing a beauty So much detail and smoothness in this. Keep up the good work Quote
mcbbvb Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 it's great. it is so huge and so detailled. I can't wait to see the final result! Quote
cavegod Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) oh my god i think i'm past 6000 parts now oh while i have a decent camera is there any parts you want a close up picture of? Edited March 7, 2010 by cavegod Quote
Rufus Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Looking amazing, cavegod. I love the way you've done the 'walls', particularly the angle the front and rear make with the central section, which is just about spot-on. Nice greebling too. The belly looks pretty accurate; will there be a little hatch for Luke to toss his empty coke can grenade into? I would be nice to see a distance shot, but I guess I can wait till it's finished. Quote
cavegod Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 sorry no distance shots till it's finished Quote
Walter Kovacs Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 ok a few pictures for you to look at and correct me where i have made mistakes.ok first off the revised sides although still not happy with them. right side comments welcome! Wait, you're not happy with the sides? I think they look incredible. Things are really coming along well, cavegod. I love the back end. I can't wait to see the finished product. Quote
-JD- Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I want to see three of these! Amazing work. The only little thing that bugs me about the back side panels are the sloping grill pieces. Other than that, they look better than fine to me. Quote
