Nice review! I really like that this set gives you 4 minifigs (not including protocol droid or whatever the heck it is) for the price of $24.99  It also has much playability and detail (like the right engine). And sometimes seriously I think lego trys to intentionally rip you off look at the swamp speeder its $30.00 and has less pieces ugh... TLC you disappoint me sometimes.:hmpf::hmpf_bad:

I've been looking forward to this land speeder, and with good reason it seems  The printing on the figures looks pretty good, and my sigfig is looking for a newer outfit. My only grief is the broken engine. Its movie accurate, but I'm all for symmetry.

Great Review :classic:

Back in the day I bought two copies of the Cantina Set, which I really liked, so I was very apprehensive about buying this Landspeeder. I actually bought a Speed Racer set to put the more accurate windscreen on those sand red Landspeeders, which really makes this Land Speeder superfluous for me.

Still... My obsessive drive to have all the OT sets (so far I have all the OT sets except for the TIE Bomber and the Droid Escape sets) and this excellent review and the new styled figures sway me towards buying it after all. I am such a sucker for Lego, I know...

Nice review Rufus.

I'm not sure I'm going to get this set, but it was nice seeing your pictures/thoughts so I can make up my mind.

I feel sorry for you over in England - the pound is about 1.5 USD, yet this set is 25 of both of them! Lego needs to get their acts together and start charging you less.

Ha, if you feel sorry for the Brits, check this out: Lego.com has the Finnish price for this set at 31,95€, which converts into 46,30$! Yep, that's almost twice as much as the price in the US. And only because we're supposed to have more money than the average American (which is kinda true, but still).

I think I'm going to get this set anyway. I have always wanted a 3-CPO and an R2-D2 of my own.

Hello!

Nice review! :classic: Although I still like the very first landspeeder best, this here finally gives us the old space engine in light bluish grey, which is very valuable addition to the bluish grey colour line. :classic:

The little blemish you can see on his chin was present on my figure; I don't know if it's meant to be there but it looks like a misprint to me.

All lego Luke's have that kind of wrinkle on chin it is no blemish or misprint :look: - well reason is not clear though- Mark Hamill's chin seems normal to me  - anyway Luke looks better than i thought it is not identical to the cityfig with happy face and eyebrows as it forst looked :sweet: but i must say that new droids aren't exactly my favorites- i liked more about the looks of the old R2- new looks bad and all of those details in the head seems to be almost always missprinted  also c-3po is now too dark- i have the old one which is much lighter (best c-3p0 is that rare golden one) Ben looks ok bbut he don't have a cloak- bad bad bad once again  also one stormie- no commander- bad bad bad :hmpf_bad: since i do have the old cantina -but only part i have lost is that pauldron- now it cannot be found from this set either :hmpf_bad: also why lego is stopped making those great chromesabers- new ones will lose their color in few days- at least those i did get from 2009 CW-sets :hmpf_bad: so this set is not really for me- however it is not a bad set -figcount is suitable for a prize (didn't freecospeeder cost the same? it is much worse set) but as always compared to the piececount prize is high- well licenced sets always are expensive....

Ok- really?? I'm finnish too- so this is no-buy if it costs that much!!!! :cry_sad:

We are dealing with it. We are sharing our feelings about it. *sniffles a bit and then continues to deal decks of cards quickly for fear of a shootout* :look: *you bully!* :cry_sad: j/k lol

Let's just blame it on the Illuminati and the New World Order. :cry_happy:

I like this set. I'm going to buy it because I missed out on the other ones and I like these minifigs. I don't have any Star Wars stuff yet because I like the classic Star Wars movie stuff mostly and I missed out on a lot of it. Though I can still get, and will get, Darth Vader with his ship. I wish I could have gotten the Jabba the Hut set but now it costs a ton. Anyway, I'll grab this when I get to the store. The licensed Star Wars sets are so expensive with less pieces and this is a classic original Star Wars era set.

Nice review, and an okay set.

While I think the set itself is good, there have been two landspeeders before, all the figs are available from other sets (with slight variations) and even though I have all these, I will probably still get this, the colours are very nice IMO.

On the positive side, it is the first "hovering" vehicle not to have hidden wheels.

???... To name but a few, both earlier Land Speeders didn't have hidden wheels, the 7124 Flash Speeder didn't have hidden wheels, the 7184 MTT didn't, and 6210 Jabba's Sail Barge too didn't have hidden wheels... 7155 AAT, Battle Droid Carriers, you name it. And all of these are hovering vehicles.

Asides from that, I actually think the hidden wheels in the few hovering vehicles that have them are a nice touch

Good review, Rufus. :classic:

Hmm, I like new Luke's head, but it's a little odd. Also like Ben and new Sandtrooper figures. )

But the new version didn't go very far from cantina's landspeeder, especially cowl...

I'll probably buy this set as I need a Sandtrooper and a Tattooine Luke.

However, I really wish that this set didn't come with the ubiquitous R2-D2 and C-3PO. I think it would have sold phenomenolly well to army-builders if they'd included a super-rare Jawa and Tusken Raider instead...

Oh well. Maybe for the 4th Landspeeder release? ;)

Thanks for the good review and I like the little dialogue you got there. Definitely going to get this set for the minifigs. Nothing special about the speeder. Can't wait for it to hit the shops in NZ.

Meh, this is one set I won't get. This speeder is too similar to the previous one, which I prefer and own. The figs I already have in some form, and the price is pretty poor. Like others have said, I wish TLG would make new vehicles instead of remakes.

Nice review, btw!

I totally agree with you. The price is ridiculous, 26.95 EUR... Meh... But the figures are so awesome. And of course, all the Original Trilogy sets look much better than that Clone Wars stuff. LEGO is doing pretty well lately on the OT sets. I really like this version of Luke, it's not the smiley which has been already produced in Licensed sets (Spiderman/Speed Racer and even City) but it looks much, much better and it's very usable for other characters of other series. If it won't go on sale soon, then I'll just buy it at the high price I guess.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone, and thanks KimT for indexing, adding a poll and for frontpaging!

The UK price didn't seem too steep for me (I bought it, after all!); I think there's not another SW set currently available that'll get you 5 figs for £25. But then this was a set I needed to fill a hole in my collection; to anyone who already owns a landspeeder this might seem too much to fork out. Compared to the £40 Tie Defender this seems a bargain. I don't think we should get too hung up on relative prices between countries; this seemed reasonable for the UK and whenever I'm in Europe I'm horrified by how expensive Lego seems.

I would have liked a bit more detail on the speeder. I might try to mod it at some point. :classic:

Reason for edit: clarifying what I meant

A really great review of a pretty good set.

What I do have against it is that it is to big really.

I do like this colour scheme much better than it was in the older version 4501.

But I will probably end up with at least two of this one anyway

This set is great, in my opinion. There are four minifigs that i (surprisingly) have still yet to own, and another stormtrooper to add to my collection. Plus, it's priced at a good price, $50, and I missed out on the original set.

Not at all impressed by this very avarage set!

<8092>

This set was just over 25 when it came out and it does not take a genius to work out which ones better!

<4501>

Yeah, you've got a point, especially as Greedo is gold dust now. However, if like me you missed out on 4501, you might well settle for the new one.

I've always wanted Lego to make a UCS version of the Speeder.

Something about a foot long in size would be brilliant!!!

Does anyone know if anyone has made a UCS-like MOC of the Speeder?
