Ronan Dragonov Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 It all began back in 1985 with the 520 Basic Building Set, 5+... Quote
jmupton2000 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) My first post here so firstly, hello!! My first ever minifig was from that very set 558 Road Crane already mentioned and here he is with a much younger counterpart: Charlie as he become known way back in I think 1979 is admittedly looking a little worse for wear but even if I could find a new sticker for his bib, I don't think I would actually have the heart to replace it. Here he is with the classic dumper truck he usually sits on whilst supervising all building in my Lego City: (Can't seem to find the set number for this one!) EDIT - Found it, it is the badly named 607 Excavator from 1979! Not that much building seems to get done as most of his crew seem to spend half their time down the oldest building I still have, the classic 675 Snack Bar: The road sign has long since been lost, the door replaced and some modifications done including some expansion of the business as you can see but it is still largely original and has outlasted various attempts to replace it!! Still never seen another printed 'Snack Bar' brick since then though. Edited January 15, 2010 by jmupton2000 Quote
vexorian Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) According to brickset my oldest set is 6886 - "Galactic Peace Keeper" from 1989, I was 4 years old back then but did not know LEGO at all. I actually got this set for my 14-ish birthday :/ Basically, I liked Space police 2 sets, but this was the only large space police set still on shelves... Ok 1989 is not gonna win any contest over here but I get bonus points because it is electrical! ( edit: now that I read brickset: huh? It is not! maybe I am confusing it over something else) Unfortunately the set is not intact, though most likely I can find all of the pieces scattered around some bags :( I still have the instructions. Edit: hmnn, those abstract minifigs are interesting, cool and scary at the same time. final edit: Ok, I figured out, the set I own is actually 6781 - "SP-Striker" . Seems I got confused over when listing my stuff in brickset a couple of weeks ago. Edited January 15, 2010 by vexorian Quote
BlueDragonZ Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 My oldest set would probably be an Exploriens (Space theme) back in the 1999. I kinda forgot the set name but i'll try to look it up. Quote
paul_delahaye Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 the shell tanker is not my oldest set as I have a lego brick which does not have anything on the bottom I'm not convinced a brick counts as your oldest set? Still seatching for mine, but I get your drift, I have a load of the old style big lego people, but no plans etc, I guess it depends on what people call a set? I could use a selection of bricks to build and old set, but would it need the box and instructions to count as a "Set" mmmmm Quote
Piranha Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Cool Topic My oldest set would have to be: 6274 Caribbean Clipper Vintage 1989 Quote
Xenophilius Studz Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Mine would be straight road plates I got off eBay several years ago from 1986. Skipping over the Community Workers and green baseplates from '96 as "not official sets; and skipping over several LEGO games from 1997 to the end of the century, my oldest set is the Mosasaurus I got at a flea market very recently. legomaniac83 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I have 2 sets, both from the same year (1984) and both won on eBay for cheap cheap cheap. Won 6655 this past summer, and got 6882 about 5 years ago. This is ironic because I just parted out the 6882 this evening to add to inventory! Cheers! Quote
Sergiu Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 My oldest set is 6812 Grid Tekkor from 1991. Quote
sens1992 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Well, my oldest set is 6363 Auto Repair Shop (1980). It is also one of my favorites. http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6363-1 Quote
Ricecracker Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 My oldest set is Metro Park and Service Tower from 1988. I got it off ebay a few years ago. Quote
fenrir Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 My oldest set: 1986, one of the best Lego sets ever: Guarded Inn Quote
Pate-keetongu Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) I think that my oldest set is my father's old Rocket Stationfrom 1973. I remember how big set it was when I was got it from stock. Ahh the memories. EDIT: It seems to be one of the oldest sets in this topic... Edited January 16, 2010 by pig Quote
General Armendariz Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Although Im still not sure which is my oldest set, I did find some old instructions and parts from the early 80's and also this So now all I need to do is check inventory's with that figure and I will find out what my oldest set is! Peppermint_M Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Ok, so I checked the loft. I have three sets from 1986. Polar Copter, Snow Scooter and Arctic Rescue Unit. Now all I have to do is download instructions, take apart, clean and get any needed replacements before re-building. Quote
train lover Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 The oldest set I have is jeep 330 from 1968. Image here: Quote
Zorbas Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I may have older sets than that in that draw but it's too cold to go and look. Ok, so I checked the loft. I have three sets from 1986. Polar Copter, Snow Scooter and Arctic Rescue Unit. If that's not the definition of coincidence then which is the one? Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 If that's not the definition of coincidence then which is the one? Ho ho ho. The problem is that all these sets are made from white... I have to hope that under all the dust the white is still nice and new. I don't think they sat out in sunlight for a long time, but they are somewhat grey at the moment. Now I know what they are I should be able to get instructions for them. I'll have to do a review once they are all cleaned up and any missing bits replaced (including the maxi figures). Quote
Aredhel Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I cannot remember if that really was my first set, but I guess it must be one of the first ;-) Town Square - 1592 -Aredhel Quote
JimBee Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 My oldest set is the 384 (same as 760) London Bus: Quote
richb Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I was born in '74 and played with LEGO pretty much from the womb until the late '80s. I put away my LEGO when I hit junior high, and eventually sold everything on eBay when my first child was born in '99. Dang if I don't regret that now. In the massive set sale I had in '99, one set never got shipped because I got stiffed on the payment. I never bothered to relist it so I still have it. In fact, its still sealed in a white box with a mailing label to the person who won the original eBay auction back in 1999. 6675 Road & Trail 4 x 4 (1988). This was probably the last set I ever bought as a kid, but its the oldest set I have now since everything else sold. My oldest sealed set is a Paradisa 6405 Sunset Stables (1992), which I won with a lowball bid on eBay a couple of years ago. Apparently nobody else was interested, so I snagged it with the opening bid that managed to float all seven days the auction was open. Quote
Quarryman Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Hmm. Technically the oldest I have would be either 6631 Steam Shovel or the 3673 Fabuland Steamboat, both from 1985. However, they are at my parents' place, so the oldest I actually have is the 8868 Air Tech Claw Rig from 1992. Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Mine is definitely is the 6521 Emergency Repair Truck from 1987. That's really old for me, at least... Quote
