Fugazi Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 My oldest is Basic set 722, which was introduced in 1979. Such great fun! Since I only got it in 1982 or so, it's my oldest but not my first set. Curiously, my box had no set number at all. I believe it was some alternative Samsonite Canada packaging, since the content was right and the instruction book did have 722 written on it! from Peeron: Quote
Blackheart Brit Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I have two older brothers so our collection bleeds together so much I have no Idea what MY first set was but it surely had to be in 80 or 81. We always had lots of Cops and Firemen, grey space vehicles and plenty of that really old stuff. Cool topic though. Quote
Legorski Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Mine isn't too old, 6614-1: Launch Evac 1 8D Quote
legotrainfan Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) 6305 Trees and Flowers, but I'm not a hundred percent sure. I'd have to check if I've still got a box of this set. My memory might be deceiving me. This set was released in 1980. I was born a year later, but I think it was available for quite a while. If I'm deceived and it's not my oldest set, then Blacksmith Shop 6040 is my oldest set. It was released in 1984. Unfortunately, I lost the blacksmith with his rare brown cape a long time ago. Sumendar Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I recently spotted a lot of parts for the 8860 car chassis from 1980 in a picture of a random lot of old technic, bought the lot, and when I was done sorting the pile out, I had all but six rather common pieces like 1x3 plates in my hands, even all the hoses and taps were there, and all the wheels, even though the pic was only showing three! The parts were in excellent shape too, they had probably been 25 years in that attic. A day later I have this beauty looking for free shelf space Quote
TheMaster Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 My oldest set is 350 from 1979 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=350-3 which is a Fabuland set. Quote
SuperCow Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) My oldest set, and my first technical set. 8020 This set hooked me up for technic from then on. I must have been around 8 years Edited January 30, 2010 by SuperCow Quote

Stinky Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 My oldest set is #500, the wooden "Klodser" I understand that there's been an "official remake" of this set but I think I have the real deal: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?G=500 This set was released in 1948. Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) I think the oldest one I have is my original Sith Infiltrator, Gunan sub and Tie Fighter & Y wing! Edited March 4, 2013 by Im a brickmaster. Quote
Vindicare Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) Mine is 6066 Camouflaged Outpost from 1987 that I repurchased in '07 after seeing the light(along with most other Forestmen and Ninja sets). That was an expensive first month of LEGO... Edited March 4, 2013 by Legocrazy81 Quote
Lasse Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 My oldest set is #500, the wooden "Klodser" It's also my oldest LEGO set: Some years ago I was looking in some old LEGO retailer catalogs. And "#500 LEGO Klodser" was mentioned already in the 1945 catalog. I do also have some other wooden LEGO toys. Some of it is older than 1945, but it’s very difficult to date wooden LEGO toys. This wooden rabbit was mentioned in the 1937 LEGO retailer catalog. I guess that it’s my oldest LEGO toy: Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I cannot recall specifics as I was only two years old when my parents bought me my first LEGO which would have been in 1970. I know my father enjoyed trains as he had a big layout (Not LEGO.) and I did end up with lots of blue 4.5V stuff, both push along and motorised. I recently have reused some of those old motors and taking them apart to clean them the date stamp on the actual motors are dated 1967 which is before I was actually born in 1968. I assume therefore that they are probably the oldest sets I have and they probably came with some of the old railway stuff of the 4.5V era. Quote
Roger_Smith Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) The oldest sets I can remember getting as a kid are 6503 Sprint racer and 6590Vacation Camper, both from 1988: http://lego.wikia.co...Vacation_Camper http://lego.wikia.co...03_Sprint_Racer Before that; I had one or maybe more basic sets, but it's impossible to identify which ones When I got my big box of Lego from our neighbours at the beginning opf the 90ies, I suddenly had a shitload of older Lego, most of which I never was able to build because I didn't have instructions. After I rediscovered Lego at the beginning of this year, I was able to identify a lot of the sets thar are/were in that big box, and also started putting them together (for my first time ever, in almost all cases) if I could find all the necessray parts. So the oldest of that lot thar I managed to put together so far are: 6890 Cosmic Cruiser: http://lego.wikia.co..._Cosmic_Cruiser (1982) 6950 Mobile Rocket Transport: http://lego.wikia.co...ocket_Transport (also 1982) I also have about 90% of the parts necessary to build 928 Galaxy Ecplorer from 1979, but I'm missing some of the big plates plates, about half of the cones and a couple bricks necessary to build the ground station. This is the oldest set I tried to rebuild so far. But there is even some older stuff in my collection, none of which I tried to rebuild, most of which is most likely incomplete. All of these I was able to identify by the special printed parts that I found among my Lego. Oddly enough, I mostly seem to miss the bigger plates in old gray here aswell, with all the printed parts remaining except for two of the ambulance doors...: 123 Passenger Coach http://lego.wikia.co...Passenger_Coach (1969) 124 Goods Wagon http://lego.wikia.co...124_Goods_Wagon (1969) 338 Ambulance http://lego.wikia.co...i/338_Ambulance (1970 - while all of the printed bricks and the big car plate are still there, the two remaining printed doors are completely ruined :() 217 Service Station http://lego.wikia.co...Service_Station (1977) Edited March 4, 2013 by Roger_Smith Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I'm pretty sure my oldest (and very first) set was the 336 fire engine. But the coolest set I remember from those days (so wonderful I had to have two of them) was the 603 Vintage Car. I remember being quite taken with the new, smaller wheels and the macaroni pieces putting a little curve into the body and the crude SNOT (not that I knew what that was in those days) technique for the headlights. My how far we've come in the past 40+ years... Quote
Dazmundo Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I think the oldest set I have is 171-1: Train Set without Motor from 1972 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=171-1 Which was actually my older brothers but I have claimed it now, the oldest set that has always been mine would be 316-1: Fire Fighting Launch from 1978 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=316-1 D Quote
Rook Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Pretty sure that I have 2 or maybe even 3 of these somewhere in the mass of Lego. 420-1: Police Car Quote
Leo604 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 If I remember right, it was 6470 Mini Dump Truck and then the first Anakin's Podracer. Still have the minifigures from both of them but the sets are pretty much dismantled and all in the basement. Quote
Vindicare Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Wow Lasse, those are awesome and make me very jealous! The closest I have to wooden LEGO toys is a photo of the duck. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Those wooden sets are some neat pieces to have. LEGO at it's infancy. My oldest sets, apart from some roadplates from 1979, are two 6653 Highway Maintenance Trucks from 1982. All are second hand, produced 5 - 8 years prior to me Quote
Borex Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Maybe this is the first set we had? but one set that i always liked to rebuild being a kid is: Quote
racedees Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 My oldest set is the 8020. Had much fun with this set back then. Even now I use the parts for MOC. Quote
kibosh Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I have these two from 1981, which I got on ebay 6 or 7 years ago. <snipped - Classic Space 6927> Wow! Totally forgot about that set. I LOVED playing with that one. The vehicle design was so unique. for me, it's the magnificient 375: <snipped - Classic Castle 375> box and notice are in perfect state, only one shield is broken. While I didn't have this as a child, I traded some Star Wars action figures for one that was complete, and in fantastic shape. One of my better trades! From before I was even born... <snipped LEGO 692> I have fond memories of my mom taking me to K-Mart and letting me buy LEGO sets. This was one of them. I usually built them as soon as we got back to the car. or 485 - Fire Truck: This was another one mom bought for me. My oldest is Basic set 722, which was introduced in 1979. Such great fun! Since I only got it in 1982 or so, it's my oldest but not my first set. Curiously, my box had no set number at all. I believe it was some alternative Samsonite Canada packaging, since the content was right and the instruction book did have 722 written on it! from Peeron: Wow. I had that one as well. Didn't remember it until seeing that picture. LOVED that set. You could build so many great things. The oldest set I have, that is still together, and was never once taken apart is the London Bus. I remember it being a mail away special. Great thread! Quote
