Azrielsc Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) Guys, anyone? Hi Frankjaeger. I am in the midst of completing my Venator and the total cost for it is US$1,780. Shipping cost me a fair bit because I am halfway around the world from USA and I had a total of 30+ orders from BrickLink. Ordering a few extra of the uber expensive magnet holders didn't help... And I did order a couple of extra bricks, just in case, also inflated my cost. Hope this helped. Please kee in mind that this is my first MOC build and I have absolutely no spare bricks lying around as I just started my Lego journey 6 weeks ago. Cheers! Edited October 14, 2014 by Azrielsc Quote
Bbafett Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Amazing job. I created an account only to be able to build this. Anyone care to share their final budget for this. I am looking at my budget being around $1,250 for this including shipping. Been ordering parts since May a little at a time(20 or so orders on bricklink) b/c I don't think my wife would appreciate me spending all that in one month. Plus the project is fun getting everything ordered and organized. My wife laughs at me but when it comes time to build she will be right there ready to help hand me the parts for the next steps. She likes that. I think the next project after I finish this one in a couple months will be to get Anio's SSD instructions and rebuild my Lego 10221 SSD to his version. I expect I will already have the bulk of the pieces, but the flat version by Lego doesn't look right to me. Still an awesome build though. Looks great on my entertainment center. Soon I will have this Venetator and the SSD facing each other. Will be awesome. Quote

Foltz410 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 This really is one of the best ships I have seen. Will be trying to get these instructions. Quote

Bbafett Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Finally placed the last order yesterday. Got to the point that I was determind to have all the parts here to work on Christmas Day at least. Looking forward to the wife and I going through this mammoth project. Been 7 months waiting for it since I started ordering parts. Quote
Anio Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 Nice. :) Do not hesitate to share pictures. :) Quote
LegoPanda Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I can't open the parts inventory on my macbook, can anyone help with this please? Thanks in advance (before i buy instructions and find out i miss so many parts it'd be out of my budget) Quote
Lobot Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 The parts list is available via Rebrickable (direct link below), or alternatively you should be able to import it directly into your Bricklink wanted list http://rebrickable.com/mocs/anio/venator-star-destroyer#parts_list Quote
Bucephalusfund Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Nice to see usc treatment for the venator - my favorite star destroyer by far. Quote
Bbafett Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 https://imageshack.com/a/24Fz/1 Here is a album of my pictures so far. About 11 hours into it over the last few days with the help of my wife. Looking pretty good. Well put together guide. My wife asked me where I was going to put this thing. lol. Originally I had plans to put this facing my Lego 10221 SSD on the entertainment center. Now that I have the bulk of it built I am not 100% sure I can get them both on there. Might have room, but this thing is massive. But oh so awesome. I do wish that the Bracket 2436b came in dark red. Those are towards the front and although mostly covered up I can still see a strip of bright red on both of them. Might see if I can find a solution to that if possible. Will post updated pics Quote

Buy some bricks 1x1 with headlight and a couple of plate 1x4. This is very basic SNOT technique. Regarding that part, I wish I had updated the model before the instruction was released Quote

Will post updated pics Hello Bbafett! Awesome job so far! Anio's instructions have been great so far. You can find used Dark Red 2436 bricks on BL, really! I managed to grab a couple when I was sourcing for my Venator build. Just search for 2436 and not 2436b, and scroll through the list. Most BL sellers have 1 each only, unfortunately. Wish I would have thought about dropping off the b on that part. That is good to know for the next time I order. Quote
Bbafett Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Question, I am finding that I am having a slight warp when building the outside covers on the ship(bottom currently). Seems to get worse the further out I build this wing. I have checked my parts and the best I can tell there is no warp on the individual plates and I have made sure that each part is properly seated among each other. Is this something that will cause an issue when I try to attach it to the body of the ship? I have even basically rebuilt it and still had the same issue making extra sure that the parts are correct. Might try again with different bricks to see if the problem reoccurs. Is this something that occurred while others have built it? And will it still allow me to attach to the ship? Quote

No worries of the warping. I faced the exact same issue as well. Once when you fit the plates onto the bottom, the magnets will "straighten" out the warp. I also did a small mod to the tip of the ship to ensure that the tips of the bottom plates are closer to the centre spine, because I didn't want the tips of the bottom plates to point downwards. Cheers! Quote
Bbafett Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Yeah I got the bottoms on. A little tricky to get all the magnets aligned but it looks good so far. Only the tops are left. Quote
Azrielsc Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Yeah I got the bottoms on. A little tricky to get all the magnets aligned but it looks good so far. Only the tops are left. That's lovely. The mod that I did was to add 2 pieces of 4865 (Panel 1x2x1) to the bottom as seen in the photo. It helps to prevent the bottom plate ends to sag downwards and away from the centre spine! Trust this helps! Happy New year 2015 and happy bricking! Quote
Bbafett Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) Finally completed. Took me and my wife 24 hours to complete this beast. Probably spent more looking for pieces than building. Lol. Looks great. Need to get a big display cabinet for a growing Lego collection. For right now it is on top of entertainment center.
