Where did you get them from and for how much in total?;o

I got my parts on brickink. Including shipping it was a little over $1000. I am in usa. Magnet holders were over $200.

I've 11 hard-to-find magnet holders to sell but 200 USD you paid looks a little bit to expensive from my point of view.

The other magntes holders are realy cheap and magnet themselves are not that expensive.

Anyway i built mine some time ago but I decided to set the long area between the 2 wings upper and olwer in darkbluish gray.

It looks better (once again from my point of view).

The only concern i have with the design is with the space between the red line between the 2 upper wings.

I would prefer to have a different design such as this one:

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83721&hl=venator

Of course i understand the overall architecture would need to be addapted and i have neiterh skills nor time

If some of you tried this please share

Thanks

I rebricked this year (2015):

10030 Star Destroyer for 550€ incl. Magnets- (I had to paint about 10 parts in light bluish gray - RAL 7045)

10143 Death Star II for 460€

10179 Millenium Falcon for 910€

Now i got all the Parts for this excellent Venator for 800€ incl. Magnets (5%Pick a Brick-Lego, 15%Spareparts-Lego, 80%Bricklink)

Just to give an idea for the prices in 2015.

Where did you buy the rare magnet holders from for the the venator. Those are so expensive everywhere I look.

Yes, for the rare magnet holders you have to add 200€. My plan for the Venator is to create a similar non-puristic part, cut and stick the thin plate 6134 to magnet holder 2609. For the Star Destroyer i added some technic parts and /or 2607 on both sides. But this took too much time...

I Am almost done with my model and found a solution to get rid of the magnets. My solution costs only about €7,- instead of €200,- for the magnets.

First of all, thanks for such a GREAT model Anio/Polo. Purchased plans earlier this week, and just finished part order.

I'm in the USA and there HAS to be a better (cheaper) way to build this without the spendy "magnets", but I'm working through that. I have purchased all parts (with some of the minor substitutions already listed throughout this thread, like black handle on rather than light bley)...

Anyway, my price for everything except the spendy magnet holders on bottom was just under $900 (not counting S&H) from 19 vendors at roughly $0.15 cpp...S&H was just under $90.

Couple of the most EXPENSIVE things (from overall model cost) out side of the magnets are as follows:

#3703 - Technic, Brick 1x16 (interior frame as well as the blacks for the stand). Doing a careful check on colors for "interior" frame and finding those as cheap as possible helps. Find as many of these cheap first and supplement from those.

#3460 - Plate 1x8 - mostly is the Dark Red, but don't under estimate the counts of light bley.

#3027 - Plate 6x16 - find a cheap source of light bley (Pick-a-Brick is only 2.10).

#2445 - Plate 2x12 - Just a lot of these...find a CHEAP source.

#4282 - Plate 2x16 - I'm really disappointed the builder used so many of these needlessly (structurally). Sure, they are nice, but pretty spendy at 10x the cost of 2x8.

#3456 - Plate 6x14.

#2465 - Brick 1x16

#6190 - Don't under estimate the cost of the Radio Handle detail part.

Anyway, just some of my findings, and that is separating the list into "rare" wanted as well as "bulk" list with HALF the min qty to help match at fewer stores and pricing. I sure wish all the pricing was open SQL and I would write a recursive perl to get more optimized on minimum pricing.

I am still waiting for some missing parts to optimise :look: . I hope they arrive this week.

Here are some parts that I used for now:

Technic Axle 4 with Stop

Technic Brick 1 x 2 with Hole

Technic Bush 1/2 Smooth with Axle Hole Reduced

Technic Cross Block 1 x 2 (Axle/Pin)

Technic Pin Long

Turntable 2 x 2 Plate, Complete Assembly with Light Bluish Gray Top

So I too have finally decided to pull the trigger on this MOC, as I just finished bricklinking 10030 and need this ship to complement it. I have priced out my first order which consists of over 3000 pieces for a great price. I have two of the magnet holders in my hands, but there are 16 more and they are just so expensive.

And so it has begun! All parts are in, and I've completed most of the MLCAD regen with changes to reflect 1x16 technic that are just frame and have replaced all the 2x16 plate requirements with no issues. Reverted top inner drive to have older thust openings and couple other minor cosmetic changes. This thing is HUGE.

I'll post detailed photos of whatever solution I come up with to replace the magnets. I can't believe it will be that hard... *edit June 28* I have put pics of what I hope will replace the magnets...see images near end of album below

I love the first few pictures. How did you get the mirrored effect. Awesome. I have built this moc and love it. It is huge but totally worth it. Hard to find a good spot to display it though where you can appreciate the details on it.

They are Ray traced 3D model renders. Just to be clear. Great model and I highly encourage folks to pay the modest plans price.

Glad to see this thread is still alive. Thanks for sharing the picture album, Jeff.

I've been gathering parts for this over the last few months as funds allow and am almost there.

I thought about them being computer render images. They looked so good I thought maybe you just have a really cool picture set up. lol.

Took me about 6 months of orders to get everything for mine as I was doing the same. Although I like having a big project like that to work on.

Such a beautiful MOC. Nice work recreating it.

Your Death Star room photo bucket just sucked an hour of my life away. Wow. I can't wait for the kids to move out so I can have a "Lego Room" too...
