Hello gents have a question...on the Levers whats the best way to get a quantity of those things??

And could you give a number of their value so i don't get crushed?

Thank You

-Doug

I was in the same boat as you were when I was ordering the bricks as the full LBG ones were really expensive so I decided to buy the black/LBG levers as the store that I was in had tons of them which they sell by the weight.

And when I fixed it on on the Venator, I noticed that the black/LBG levers helped to bring out the "texture" of the greebling, instead of just a flat LBG. Here are some photos:

Hope these photos help in your decision making.

Good luck!

Very simple what I have done for my falcon, star destroyer, and now this. I simply get the LBG base with black lever for about $0.02 eah and then hunt around bricklink for levers with a light gray lever and an odd color base (black, blue, white, yellow, red, just not light gray thats expensive too). Now finding these in a large quantity can be tough, but it is certainly worth it. Then i just take the light gray lever and swap it with the black one on the LBG base.

Jeff,

How many of the magnet replacements did you have to build i.e. was it the same number of magnets called for in the instructions? Do you have a list of the parts used and the quantities for each one?

Thanks!

I have pics on the flickr site, but basically, I put some 1x4 panels on the center bottom to support most of it, and then just needed the rear technic 1x6 blocks with axle into the back and ONE of the ball/technic lock downs. I changed it a little from what my pics had (didn't end up needing the elaborate support arms and pin/plate with the panels, but that is basically it). I'll try to get some more photos.

Hi Doug, unfortunately the LBG levers are very expensive, and in short supply. There are some for sale on Bricklink (here) but unless you're prepared to spend a fortune it may be worthwhile considering either the Black/LBG version which are a fraction of the cost (about 1-2p each) or possibly painting them yourself. I did notice that someone on Ebay was selling painted ones, which looked pretty good which may be an option. I used the Black/LBG version on my Bricklinked Falcons and they didn't look too bad! :classic:

I think it isn't worth the pain to get the LBG levers. The black (with LBG base) look fine...

Well,

I *finally* finished my Venator! I have been out of action because I broke my neck in 5 places mountain biking (let's not focus on that...), but I finally had the strength to hunch over the table and finish the last top plate I needed to complete and get it all mounted up and snapped a couple photos today. I can not tell you how impressive this ship is in person. It is simply huge. Pics don't do it justice. I love it.

P.S. I just finished getting the last order in for "The Invisible Hand" too, so on to that...

So what happened to your neck? Just joking! :classic:

Nice completed Venator. Noticed that you modded the engine a bit with 2x4 wedge plates and i like the modifications that you have done to replace the magnets and the colour change of the side hanger doors! One side is black and the other side is red, right?

PS: The Invisible Hand is a smaller and more straight forward build! Too bad it isn't the same size as the Venator though. Expensive bricks are the dark blue 2x4 inverted slopes!

Yup. Good eye. I'm trying to figure out which color I like better. I also did some small modifications to the frame for better support and eliminated a LOT of 2x16 plates to save some coin. Put venting bricks in the rear fuse. Mostly just some other small/minor structural lapping changes. Hard to improve this MOC too much. It is wonderful.

On the Invisible Hand slopes, yeah, I had to go to EU for several orders to get those...

Wish is was on scale with Venator just for presentation, but I'm not sure I would have spent what it would have required, just not as cool a ship design to me...

-JM

P.S. I'm also just finishing up a recreate from scratch in MLCAD of Wolf Leews' classic space 928 Galaxy Explorer and several moon base buildings. Those parts are enroute, but I have a lot of renders on my Flickr.

Yup, there isn't much that I can think of improving my Venator, though I find that the 2 largest engines do droop slightly so I am thinking of seeing how to realign it so that it runs straight instead.

And yes, the Invisible Hand does look small, compared to the Venator!

But I also cannot imagine the cost of the dark blue 2x4 inverted slopes, if it was sized to the Venator!!

Hi jeffmcclain, congratulations on completing this masterpiece!

I'm almost tempted to have a bash at it myself, as you've managed to find an affordable alternative to the magnets (I costed them last year for Anio's Executor but they are getting prohibitively expensive, so I'd given up with the idea). I hope you don't mind but I've deeplinked one of the photos into your post, so everyone can see how impressive it is.

Cheers, Robin

I don't mind at all. In fact, I owe everyone some better photos of it all. But it is hard for me to take the tops off and lift the ship right now...maybe in a couple weeks. :(

Cheers,

I just completed this awesome MOC and left a video review and time lapse of Anio's Venator on Youtube. The last portion of the time lapse got corrupted for some odd reason which is sad but everything else is there as well as a comparison to 10030!

Thank you for your review. :)

I am glad you like the final model.

The begining, when you are talking, was funny. It sounds like "OMG, I will build the UCS Venator. O. M. G."

It is cool you noticed how stable the model is. A LOT of effort went into this during the design process.

Regarding the instruction, Mathieu will be delighted you appreciate his work.

Small numbers are indeed not included on long liftarms, but counting is part of the fun. :p

And I am pretty sure many builders do not need to count anymore. Often, just a quick look, and I know if it is 16 or 14.

It is also nice to hear your praise regarding the details all over the ships. You forgot to mention the main hangar below the ship though.

Regarding the mini model, there is not much that can be done here. RBR works good with ISD as it is still a capital ship (150 meters long). But there is not much to do with the Venator. A Republic Attack Gunship would be very very small (3 studs long, at best), and would had no value to the model. It would be barely recognizable.

May I ask to add this link in your video description ?

Thank you again for your review.

It is greatly appreciated.

Hi guys looking for a name of a store where I could grab all the dark red pieces in one swoop or at least most of them?

Thank you for your help.

-Doug

Create a wanted list (with all the red pieces) on Bricklink and search by store.

One thing I noticed about this whole thread is everyone is willing to give great advice to get where we need to go!

Does any body know how many has actually been built?

I built one.
