DJ Force Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) Just found this ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.de/Lego-10182-5x-Cafe-Corn...=item4ced33397d That guy offers a MOC of FIVE Cafe Corners. While the mass of parts is already amazing, the MOC itself looks spectacular. Sadly deeplinking the pic is impossible, so I needed to post the auction itself. I might be traveling to that guys store where the building is located and take some better pictures to share. Edited January 20, 2010 by CopMike Pic added. Quote
MetroiD Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Looks pretty nice, I guess... and huge too... but to me that's simply overkill. The price tag of 1K EUR is also definitely a bit "out there", especially in the current economic situation. I hope he'll still find a buyer though. Quote
Big Cam Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Wow, I wonder if he expects to ship it like that? It's be really expensve to ship it built. Quote

Dennimator Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 It´s a nice MOC, but the price is insane! 5 MISB Café Corners isn´t more than around 75 EUR maximum, and those middle parts don´t look like they are using up all the parts from the set... Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 OMG That's a lot of bricks ! Someone has being very busy building this eh ? Quote

The cheapest place I could find on Bricklink with 5 of them charged US$299.99 each which works out at 1060 Euro. Seems OK to me. Not a great bargain, but also not a ripoff. It is a lot of money to be spending all at once though, and buying 5 you might expect a bulk discount. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Rock Me Amadeus! That's a lot of Cafe Corners. They actually look really good side-by-side. Quote
wooootles Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 The size seems actually quite true in minifig scale. But I ain't spending that much on CC's and I would rather drive across America and stop in LEGO stores to find CCs here and there. Or just buy multiple 10211s.... yea, that sounds better. Quote

Wohoo Dennimator! Isn't there something missing in your calculation? I think 1000€ is a real price for that (one set is going for 250€ right now) - if it contained ALL pieces from 5 sets. I agree though, the photo leads to the impression that MOC does not cover everything. I would not be impressed if the seller is going to get rid of it. EDIT: Talking about 1000€ - look what's on sale, too! Quote
prateek Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Woah. That's just insane. I like the circle thingy in the middle, but the price is too high. Quote
AllanSmith Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Wohoo Dennimator! Isn't there something missing in your calculation? I think he left out a 0, should be 750 Quote
MetroiD Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I think he left out a 0, should be 750 errrm... irony, anyone? Anyway - @Doc: I can only imagine what kind of whacked out collector someone needs to be in order to splash out on that thing you linked to!! Quote
Svelte Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 For that price, I'd rather just get 4 proper MISB sealed ones and have the joy of deboxing and building with fresh shiny bricks rather than just picking up and reinstalling someone else's work in a new location. I don't think they look so good in a strip anyway, I'd be tempted just to have a 64 x 64 layout rather than a 32 x 160. Quote
Trexxen Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Rock Me Amadeus! Smooth, I almost missed that. XD I love the look of this MOC, but I agree that it doesn't look like it uses nearly all of the parts in the model. Still, it's unique, and would likely make for an amazing centerpiece to any modular-style Town display. The jury's out on whether it's worth that much cash partwise, but the time that was put into this creation (well, most of it - obviously parts of it are just straight Cafe Corner, done by the instructions) is enough to make it just about worth the price. The question is, would anyone actually have the money for that behemoth? ~Trexxen Quote
Brick & Mortimer Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 A beautiful MOC indeed! If I had built a MOC like that, I would find it very hard to part from it. I would never sell it, I would show off on EB Quote
VBBN Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Poblem is, no building is that huge. And it looks like carious buildings, which is weird, because they are all the same. I see nothing impresseive in putting 4 CC's and parts from a 5th together like this, i'm sorry. -VBBN Quote

Terraces of similar buildings are common throughout the world too. I sort of agree that this isnt the same level of creativity as a completely custom Moc, but the mods to the inner 3 CC's are not insignificant, and would have been tricky to achieve while still looking 'the same' as the corner buildings. I've seen many less inovative mods of modular buildings on Lego train club layouts (mine included). I'm not sure I'd pay that much for the Moc though, but others might. Quote
Piranha Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 That is very cool, thanks for sharing! However all the Modular buildings together IMO would be much nicer than just multiple of one. Quote
Rick Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 However all the Modular buildings together IMO would be much nicer than just multiple of one. Right, this takes up way too much space and doesn't look varied enough for my taste. I'd indeed much rather spend the money on getting one of each modular. Quote
