jmupton2000 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Hello A timely MOC considering the forthcoming airport sets in the form of an aircraft tug, those large square lumbering 40 ton plus lumps of motorised lead that haul aircraft around airports all the time. This is still a work in progress at the moment but I am currently quite pleased with it so far. The construction of this was an idea I came up whilst constructing the crane from the 7633 Construction Site set. They share the same sort of design, i.e. low slung with big wheels so I took a look at the instructions for the 7633 crane, adapted the elements of the chassis to make it a two axle machine with some mods to the cab area and then sent off an order to the PAB service for some parts. The cab in particular was improved over the design from the crane, mainly this involved moving the back wall rearwards on stud. This means that not only could I fit proper car doors (ALL Lego vehicles should have doors in my opinion, otherwise how is Fred the Minifig supposed to get in and out?!?!) but I could also relocate the steering wheel which on the crane stupidly is placed in such a way that the driver has to look through the wheel spokes to see where he is going!! This is the nearly completed article, needs work still on the top surface, the rear tow hook arrangement and minor details such as the light bar across the back top of the cab. Of course the way things go as I was assembling this, another idea for a very radical MOC using the same basic chassis design occured to me... Quote
prateek Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 That looks awesome! It's perfectly proportioned and everything! Great job Quote
BlueBard Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Looks really nice to me! As prateek says very well proportioned and without doubt a great addition to an Airport diorama Quote
Rick Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 It indeed resembles the truck from the construction site, but it works really well for a tug. The proportions indeed look good. Nice job. Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Not bad at all, yeah in a way it does remind me of the crane chassis from 7633. If you did in yellow then I would say copy, but I like the colours you have chosen 'Jmupton2000'. When you finish this one ........A FIRE TRUCK is what's needed at an airport too ! I'm a conformist! 'Jmupton2000' ! Quote
Big Cam Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Looking pretty good. Those really low profile trucks remind me of cranes or towing vehicles. Are you going to build a huge plain to tow as well? Quote
