Ricecracker Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Some of you may remember my Sausage Factory MOC last, when I posted a WIP thread around the same time last year. Now, I have a new MOC to share with you. This time around, it's a fire station. The specific fire station is Toronto Fire Station 134 which is located near where I live. I've taken a few pics of the real thing for inspiration: Here is what I have as of December 23rd: I've built a lot more since then, including building most of the right wall, as well as finishing off much of the front of the building. I'll be updating this thread periodically until it's completed. Edited January 31, 2010 by Ricecracker Quote
prateek Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Nice WIP. I like how the Lego tan and brown look really nice compared to the real thing. I laso like those fire trucks you've got going there Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Looks nice so far, I'm a conformist! 'Ricecracker' ! Can't wait to see the end result ! Quote
Rick Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 That engine - although it looks really good - is a bit too big for my taste, but I'm really looking forward to your progress on that fire station. Quote
ACCURATEin Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 i'm looking forward to the end result. Lots of accuracy so far! Quote
BlueBard Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Looks great! And I can already seen details I'm sure they'll be wonderful as that yellow hydrant. Looking forward for the final model Quote

I thought you might find it large, but I can't please everyone, can I? i'm looking forward to the end result.Lots of accuracy so far! I'll be sure to keep this topic updated. Looks great! I'm going to try to get another update in here today, as well. Quote
Dennimator Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 (edited) Looking great so far! However, the vehicles are a bit too big IMO. You should have the fire engine 7 studs wide, and the van 5 studs. You shouldn´t be too unfamiliar with 5-wide vehicles: I spy, with my little eye... ( ) a blue 5-wide car to the fat left of the pic! Also, how did you get those chromed plates(loose) and bricks (on the fire engine)? Edited January 23, 2010 by Dennimator Quote

North American fire trucks tend to be wider than both European ones, and regular trucks here. I spy, with my little eye... ( ) a blue 5-wide car to the fat left of the pic! Ricecracker Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Here's what I have as of now. Notice I've extended it back 48 studs, and work on the front some more. I also ran out of reddish brown 1x2s Edited January 31, 2010 by Ricecracker Quote
prateek Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Nice progress. Do yuo have pics of the back of the real building, or at least from the other side? Quote
Ricecracker Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 Nice progress. Do yuo have pics of the back of the real building, or at least from the other side? Not good ones . The back is actually obstructed by another building, so I'm going to freehand that, and it's right beside a house on one side, and a health centre on the other. I'm definitely going to get more pictures of it before it's done, though. I was going to link to the google maps link, but that takes you to the Montreal Canadiens Centre for some reason . Quote

sens1992 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 This is a great start to your fire station. I would really like a close up of your garage doors to see how you did them. I am working on something similar and I am curious to see how your garage door was built. Quote

ILikePi Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) This is progressing very nicely! I love the use of 1 x 2 plates for the side wall! The color inconsistency and gaps between the pieces makes it look realistic. The building is looking accurate to its real life counterpart, and those dark red fire trucks are spectacular! Very pleasing to the eye. Lots of small details scattered around (I already mentioned this on Flickr ), but my favorite has to be the chrome bumpers! Chrome pieces always look great on everything, though. Looking forward to the next update! EDIT: Changed it's to its. Edited January 25, 2010 by ILikePi Quote

I had to make it chrome; I light grey/bley looks terrible on the dark red, and it has metallic silver in other spots, and the pieces I need don't come in metallic silver. It was kind of pricey, though... Cool. DarthNick's design is how the garage at my house works I'm making this one motorized though... actually, the one at your house is probably motorized, too Quote
Ricecracker Posted January 30, 2010 Author Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) Here's an update. I've finally finished the chief's van, an '03 Ford Econoline XL. These pictures aren't very good, and will be replaced when the project is completed. Edited January 31, 2010 by Ricecracker Quote
Naylus Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 It's seem very interesting. Though it's still under construction it's definitely already has a look of the real Fire Station, that is shown on the photo. The cars are amazing too. Ricecracker, are You going to show your work to the Fire Brigade staff, when it's done? :) Quote
Rick Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Nice van Ricecracker, with some interesting SNOT techniques around the wheel arches and the windows. The wheel size is a nice choice as well (the rear wheel doesn't seem centered under the rear wheel arch, but I guess that's just the picture, right?). Oh, and congratulations on your Town Boy tag Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Very interesting fire chief's car (van) 'Ricecracker', some SNOT jobs are pulled off well just like yours - excellent ! I'm a conformist! 'Ricecracker' ! Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Beautifully done! I love the rich blend of colours. So, where is said fire station near (i.e, Dundas, Lawrence, Avenue Rd.)? Quote

I'm going for accuracy on this project, so that's good to hear. Ricecracker, are You going to show your work to the Fire Brigade staff, when it's done? :) I am. I'm even doing an interview with one of them, and an unnamed as of yet member of EuroBricks to go in a small booklet alongside it. ...the rear wheel doesn't seem centered under the rear wheel arch, but I guess that's just the picture, right? While it is half a plate-sideways closer to the rear, you're right it does/did look odd. I went and checked on it, and it turns out it wasn't secured properly. Always good to hear from you. Beautifully done! I love the rich blend of colours. So, where is said fire station near (i.e, Dundas, Lawrence, Avenue Rd.)? Thanks, Thok. It's at Montgomery and Yonge, near the Future Shop. The main intersection is Yonge and Eglinton. The Chief's car isn't stationed there, but they visit almost daily. When I talked to a firefighter there a few months ago, they said I should include it. Quote
