Especially since CopMike and Ras already stated that there will be no extras this year.

They did ? This thread indicates that there might be some extras. The tone is the usual "no one knows", but the option doesn't seem excluded.

Especially considering the title of the thread :sceptic:

But I guess it should be left until we find out at our arrival !

For those that want some Danish currency, I am always interested in some Euros, so we may simply make an exchange. I will make sure I've got a bit of dKr with me.

Maybe I'll come back to that. Thanks.

How many are planning to fly to Billund ?

:sceptic:

I think there are some who come with the plane... I just hope that the flights are going again on thursday morning :S

Posted (edited)

What makes me worried is the amount of road-traffic that might appear in Göteborg due to the lack of airplanes. :sceptic:

By the look of it now I might have to add an extra hour of travel-time to the dock, to make up for the potential time lost stuck in rush-hour traffic. And I have no idea if it's even possible to leave Oslo any earlier than planned! That is, we have to leave Oslo S Central-Station at 12.00 at the very latest! *sigh*

DNL, check you PMs! Urgent!

I'm already on my second bunch of flights after Ryanair cancelled the direct route from Dublin to Billund months ago and I rebooked to fly through Scotland.

Now I'm exploring ferry options as I don't see the position improving before Wednesday morning when I'm due to fly out. Some airlines have cancelled flights until Tuesday so time is running out.

Unfortunately until I'm told the flights are cancelled its a bit risky to be booking ferries that may not be refundable. UK Channel crossings are reasonable but Irish sea crossings are expensive.

The alternative to flights seems to be

Dublin - Holyhead (Wales) - 3.5hrs

Holyhead to Dover (England) - 6.5 hrs (assuming non-stop)

Dover - Calais (France) - 1.5hr

Calais - Billund - 9.5hrs (but extra time needed for breaks)

It might be possible if I can get a ferry Tuesday night and travel through the night. Return would have to start on Sunday rather than Monday.

The only advantage is that luggage would be unlimited so no need to pay for extra bags

There are people attending who are travelling from further away. Hopefully they already reached the European continent before the volcano ash.

Planning on

Hey guys..... At this stage, I can't go. At all. It's not certain, but getting pritty close. I'm currently indefinately stranded in Rome, with very little chance of being able to attend. I'll try keep you updated, But have very limited internet.

I really hope the European airspace is soon re-opened and everyone can attend without problems. I'm coming by car so no problem for me and my passengers.

Damn volcano :hmpf_bad:

Well, thats all not that easy...

The flights from Germany are still stopped til this evening 20h (so til about in 30 min.) but I think they will elongate this til I do not know when.

The only flights going out of Germany right now go to Russia and Poland and the eastern countries... There were several people who wanted to get home there so they decided to let some fly.

I hope that the situation will calm down a bit and getting there will be possible for me... There would be a possibility to go there with the train but that will cost muuuuch more extra money and I think I won't get the money back for the train to Frankfurt (from where my flight should start on thursday morning).

See you (maybe) then...

Dana

NEW: What I saw just now is that the Lufthansa flight are until further notice cancelled til Monday 14h! We will see what will happen afterwards...

All Ryanair flights in Northern Europe including to Denmark, have been cancelled up to 13.00 Wednesday!

I've booked a ferry to the UK from Ireland and will also book one from Dover to Calais. From there its a scenic drive on European motorways to Billund!

Wow thats a long travel then :S

If I would have a good car which would solve the distance I would do that too but I would drive about 10 hours or so...

Have you taken a look at the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg (Denmark)? That might be easier than driving all the way from France.

I'd looked at some of the longer crossings but cars are much faster than ships so the less time spent on water the better. The Harwich crossing seems to be 18hours.

I've now booked a crossing from Dover to Dunkirk with Norfolkline as the P&O site is down and I suspect ex-Ryanair passengers are swamping the site. It appears that many airlines are seeking to fly early next week even if there is some ash in the air as they believe its safe, but not Ryanair.

The ferry arrives in Dunkirk at about 1pm CET so I reckon it will be between 11.00 and 12.00 before I arrive in Billund [organisers please take note of the late arrival]. I may need a wake up call for the Thursday events!

At least i don't need to worry about space, either going over or coming back.

From where do you drive??

I drive from my place Nijlen via Holodoc (near Dusseldorf) to Billund. Problem is I'm assuming our car will be packed completely with sets which the Doc has been offering. He told me more than 22 sets (and many big ones) need to come next to myself, the Doc and Zorro. What do you think Doc? My car is a Golf 4.

Some time ago Captain Green Hair asked if he could maybe drive along, but at that point there were so many sets it would be nearly impossible. My car is a Golf 4.

Uff, that sounds baaaad :S But Düsseldorf is a place for me to get very good to... But like I said...first I have to figure out if the flight maybe goes on thursday again...

If there's no other way at all for you to get there we have to see with the Doc what is possible. It's a 650km drive from the Doc's place and it might not be comfortable sitting amongst so many boxes. Should we go for that option you must know that we start driving at the Doc's place around 8:30 or 9:00 on Wednesday morning. I'm not sure you can be there at that time because initially your plan was to come on Thursday, right?

Yes, I can only start on Thursday... Well, that you have the place for the boxes :P I cannot manage to come earlier... Then I need to hope that the flight will go on thursday again :/

Does anybody know if we can pay cash in euro's?
You can use EUR is the park.

It's expensive though.

I think the rate is 7 Dkr to 1 EURO, whereas the normal rate is 7,50 Dkr to 1 EURO.

If you have a VISA card then it's no problem - not sure about MasterCard and other cards though.

(No "Carte Bleu" Frenchies )

Thanks everybody for helping out here with quoting and makeing crazy fun jokes all the time.

However I am worried about the people flying in and out now.

I would love to see and hear how things are going. Please update here as you get to know things.

See you in a few days.

Cheers
