Selander Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 My latest truck-MOC. A 6-wide Scania cement mixer. I made a similar one before, but in red and white. I checked a little on the internet, and it seems that the black-yellow colour scheme is the most commonly used, at least here in Sweden. The drum is inspired by P. Normandin, any comments appreciated! Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Very nice MOC cement truck you have there 'Selander' ! I do as a tiger fan love the drum colours ! Only the front end lacks a little from colour, but the overall construction and feature are excellent ! Good work and I'm a conformist! 'Selander' ! Quote
Rick Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Nice MOC. Not much new to comment on, because you presented both the Scania front design and the cement drum here before, but that certainly doesn't mean I don't like it. I especially like the mechanisms on the back of the drum, something that the official Lego cement mixer is really lacking. Now that I think of it, most cement trucks in The Netherlands seem to be blue and white, or at least have white in the color scheme. Quote
BlueBard Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Great! The design for the mixer itself and its color scheme is really nice Quote
Big Cam Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I'm going to be the stickler who says I wish there were no studs on the drum, but having said that, I would not be able to make one that doesn't, so ignore me. I do though love the colors, more cement mixers I see have dual colors in the forms of stripes just like this one, so spot on there! Quote
rupi Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 The front is awsome, very effective. The whole model is very well buildt. And it looks bigger than 6w. Quote
sens1992 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Good looking truck. The drum colors are a good choice. I really like your MOC. Quote
Steel Dragon Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 This is really nice, I love the... tipper? tiller? ...thing on the back. And the drum is amazing, how do you manage the construction? It's probably obvious, but I'm not getting it. Quote
dr_spock Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Nicely done. Yellow/black is an interesting combination. Over here most cement truck drums are boring grey or white. I haven't seen your previous MOC. Does the drum rotate? Quote
Davey Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I have to respectfully disagree with Big Cam on this one. I love that you left the studs showing on the brick-built mixing drum. That drum design is pure genius! The color scheme is fantastic as well. I think my only wish would be for a little more splash of color in the cab. I'd love to see the drum color scheme lightly spill over onto the cab. Maybe just a yellow and black stripe using a couple of plates? Just my thoughts though. Again, very well done here capturing proportions and just coming up with an eye-catching design. -Dave Quote
Selander Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) Thanks for all positive comments ! A few comments follows. This is really nice, I love the... tipper? tiller? ...thing on the back. And the drum is amazing, how do you manage the construction? It's probably obvious, but I'm not getting it.- Steel Dragon To me it was far from obvious...it took me literally a couple of years of thinking to come up with a solution..... It is really difficult to explain in words but i give it a try (and will add some pictures later - now done) The bearing element is a square "brick 3 x 3" which consists of 4pcs 4733 in each corner and with 4pcs 6541 in between to connect all 8 bricks to one stabile unit. Connecting another 2pcs 4070 just behind creates a gap in center which makes a technic axle just possible to squeeze trough it. With 3 such complex elements after each other you got the basic structure. After that it is "just" to attach the cosmetic parts which are visible on pictures.....Do you follow me All-in-all it's a small miracle of mathematics and trials. Now you know the most important....it just remains to build the rest Nicely done. Yellow/black is an interesting combination. Over here most cement truck drums are boring grey or white. I haven't seen your previous MOC. Does the drum rotate?- dr_spock Thanks ! Yes the drums rotates on a long technic axle. In fact it is quite stabile. I have to respectfully disagree with Big Cam on this one. Again, very well done here capturing proportions and just coming up with an eye-catching design.-Dave Thanks Davey cab was intentionally built very gray to put focus on the colourful drum.....and it does have a small black stripe in the mid body side thanks for creative proposal ! ImLost Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) I think the drab colors of the cabin looks great in contrast with the bright drum. In fact, a more lively color on the cab really won't look good next to the orange and black. Nice work on your color choices and beautiful truck! Edited January 26, 2010 by ImLost Quote
