Commander Laquiet Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 This is fantastic! A brilliant model! Masses of detail and incredible construction. Amazing work! Quote
ronmcrae Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I really like your MOC and look forward to seeing it at Brickworld. I assume you'll approach Quantas for some sponsorship towards your airfare to U.S.A. and/or discounted freight charges! Ron. Quote

Ron. Sadly Ron, they are not interested, so no luck on that front, but i didnt really do it for them, so its no big deal. Like all things this size, its about challenging yourself, in new ways you have never been challenged before, and i certainly did, the real question is this, what do i build next? :) hehehehe Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 the real question is this, what do i build next? :) hehehehe Well, as I mentioned at Brickvention, there aren't that many true minifig-scale sailing ships around. Quote
Henri Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Great job you did on the A380. Did you get your inspiration from LegoLand Germany? There is a similar plane in the miniland there, although that does not have as many powerized functions I think. Henri Quote
MetroiD Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I am speechless - this is truly a stunning model that was rightfully crowned as Best of the show! All I could do was blog this... and I sure did so, your beautiful Airbus A380 looks just lovely on the frontpage of Classic-Town.net! Quote
Blakbird Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) This is a truly inspiring MOC and one that shows the world what can be done if LEGO, Technic, and Mindstorms are used to their full potential. Even if this were a static model it would be a fantastic sculpture of the A380. The cutaway adds a huge component of interest for the public. But the best part for me is not only the many technical functions but the touch screen interface. That's just brilliant work my friend. Thank you for making our whole community look good by displaying this marvelous work. I've looked over your Flickr photos. The part I find the most interesting, all the technical functions, are not really photographed much unless I am missing something. I would love to see all the mechanisms for the functions you've created. I've actually done the landing gear analysis myself for a ...... competing aircraft company, so I am very interested to see what you've done. I'm impressed with the accuracy of the way the cabin, passenger floors, and cargo bay are arranged. Did you just find a lot of reference material or do you actually work in the aviation industry? You even have the dishes behind the radome! Brilliant! Edited January 29, 2010 by Blakbird Quote
Jetro Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Amazing MOC! As Blkabird says, I miss pictures of the mechanical elements. Looking forward to video Footage (didn't anyone in your LUG or any visitors shoot any images?) Quote
peterab Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Amazing MOC! As Blkabird says, I miss pictures of the mechanical elements. Looking forward to video Footage (didn't anyone in your LUG or any visitors shoot any images?) As a member of Ryan's LUG, I'll answer. Brickvention ran last weekend. It was hugely succesfull this year, almost to the point of swamping us. MUGS has about thirty regular attendees, about ten of us are on the commitee. BV had about 60 registered attendees and over 2700 visitors. These were both large jumps from last year and that caused some headaches, and there were also the usual minor problems that needed to be dealt with. All the commitee members (including Ryan) were working pretty solidly the whole weekend, or else they were manning their display. I'm pretty sure Ryan will eventually post some more images of the technical functions, but I also know he will be at a commitee meeting this evening, because we are still tying up the loose ends, he works full time, and has two kids. Jetro Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Yeah, I know what that feels like. I didn't take a single picture of our display at our last event because I simply was too busy doing other necessary things. I'm sure our patience will eventually be rewarded. Quote
Quarryman Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Oh damn. (kinda embarrassing to find a great MOC on EB via a post on TBB, but better late than never ) This is amazing One of the things that always impress me greatly about massive builds like this is keeping the level of details consistent throughout the design, something you've achieved nicely. And all the small scenes are great, the curtain being my favourite I think I'm hoping to take it to Brickworld in June. I hope you do, would love to see this beast IRB Quote
pe668 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I edited the video footage I took at Brickvention and it's now up on YouTube. There is a section on the A380. I would have liked to get more closeups but there was a wall of people around it all day. Quote
CommanderFox Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 WOW! this just WOWed me! I saw this on Classic-Town and couldn't believe my eyes! That thing is Huge! It is spot on Ryan. The interrior is incredible, the amount of seats that are in that beast is amazing! I think the best part of this plane is the back fin, its a perfect replica of the actual plane. Well done on this amazing plane! CommanderFox Quote
reload Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Firstly thanks to Peter and Bodville for posting their info, and for Bodville for the sweet video tour, these guys are too modest, they both build amazing moc's themselves. And im also sorry i have not replied earlier, real life work and all that sort of thing. Now i have posted on flicker several detailed close ups of how the automation is done, and the mechanics of how this interacts. Flickr Link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ryanmcnaught/ In each picture i have added in some text outlining what is what. To Answer a few questions: The cutaway A380 at legoland Germany, i actually didnt see pictures of that until after i started building, so it wasnt an inspiration to begin with, but it did give me a couple of ideas, my scale of plane is actually quite a bit larger than the one there, and dare i say it, the one in Germany is all the wrong shape, not that i can talk, my wing isnt 100% correct either, hehehehe. Also i am going to be doing several modifications to the plane before it is shown again, both mechanically and structurally, but nothing too large. Also Still no word from Qantas about the sponsorship, the freight is going to be a huge killer in getting it to the USA, but i figure its a once in a lifetime thing. I also had a call from Lego Australia, asking me to make sure i keep it together as they may want to use it, so that was kind of cool too. As for the .net and the NXT/mindstorms stuff, if you have a specific question on it i am very happy to answer/talk about it, its a very interesting topic, and an awesome feature which Lego & Mindsqualls do not get a lot of credit for. As for my next project it seems i have an answer, im working on a corporate mosaic job, but after thats done, its full steam ahead. At this stage it looks like being about a 100k piece MOC. anyone would think i am a sucker for punishment. Quote
d00dz Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 How much does the whole plane weigh? Looks very magnificent! Quote
reload Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 How much does the whole plane weigh?Looks very magnificent! just the lego on its own is around 55Kgs. all the other stuff, touchscreen, power packs etc, who knows, lol Quote
sverre Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 This MOC is beyond Wowable! Spechless after studying the flicker pics. Quote

Toastie Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Ok If you are a Lego purist please steap away from the keyboard now.... You have been warned. The only non lego part of the airbus is the mindsensors expansion board and the servo motors. Hi reload, man, this is incredible. Nothing more - nothing less. Amazing. And: For me, HiTechnic stuff is indeed 100% LEGO. They make COOL things that TLC actually is supposed to create - but TLC simply "outsourced" that to maximize revenue and minimize risk. HiTechnic makes stuff that 100% works with LEGO PBricks. And they have been certified by TLC (whatever that means). As far as I am concerned, your model is 100% LEGO. Wonderful. Rock on, Thorsten Quote
