They are great indeed. I have put one on my ship as well.

I wanted to mention it before but I had no idea of what those things were called like :pir_laugh2:

And mine does open :pir-classic:

Anyway, great design

Ah, so yours weren't an afterthought? :pir_laugh2:

I look forward to seeing the complete Vesta man. :pir-classic:

You have made a perfect ship Captain Zuloo! I like everything about it. It's well build, beautiful, perfect in all it's details. I particular like the look of the stern with the 2 chasers which are very well integrated. Sails and rigging (not a small job) are executed very well. I can't provide any suggestion for improvement, it's a beauty and a masterpiece. Congratulations!

This is truly a perfect frigate. I love the positioning of the masts and the perfectly symetrical headrails. Also, many frigates I have seen before don't have that certain "frigate" shape, but you did it perfectly. Keep making ships!!!

Why thank you B! It's wonderful to know someone of your high expectations in good shipbuilding likes my work!

Thanks Captainkiwi! Do you live in NZ? If you do, you might like to make a visit to Canberra Brick Expo in August as Grandeur will be on display there. :pir-classic:

This ship is perfect! It has lots of details and especially at the back of the cabin!

Haha, I'm pleased you like the stern. It certainly took me long enough to get right! :pir_laugh2:

New Zealand? Nope I live in a small town in Canada :pir_laugh2:

Would you mind sailing the Grandeur here? :pir-tongue:

Ah, I see. I suspected you may have lived there because of your username, Captainkiwi. And no, I'm not sure how watertight she actually is. :pir_laugh2:

I need some help. I'm probably going to start building a ship, but I want to get it right:

Pic 1: How do you get the "corner" on the front of the ship to be so round?

Pic 2: How do you make it lean slightly like that?

I hope it's alright to ask here...

Hey Admiral William. First let me warn you, if you want to build a ship of this level of detail, be prepared to spend a lot of money! (But it's all for a good cause :pir_laugh2: ).

To answer your questions, I actually used many of the same techniques that Captain Green Hair used in his build-a-frigate thread. Getting that rounded effect is somewhat of a secret between myself, Greenhair, Bejaune and Bonaparte, but I'll share it anyway.

We used this piece which fits perfectly around the front of the bow:

Gah, don't ya just love hinge pieces! They're responsible for the slope of the tumblehome:

Feel free to PM me or add my MSN (in my profile) if you have any further questions. And good luck with your ship!
