kenny3011 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) I just opened a new Republic Gunship set and noticed half the white pieces were discoloured and were a tint of yellow I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this and should I bother contacting TLG about it? Rick Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I've had that with some small white tiles, which were a little off-white (creamy). It's a quality/color consistency issue I'm afraid. Quote
kenny3011 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 I guess I wouldnt mind if it was a few small pieces but alot of the long plates and all of the slanted bricks are tinted Would TLG even bother to exchange the pieces? Quote
Siegfried Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Can you post photos? Would TLG even bother to exchange the pieces? I think so. Quote
Dr. Steve Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 They should replace them, they are usually good about stuff like that. Quote
Palms Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 They should replace them, they are usually good about stuff like that. Yea, TLG has one of then best customer service around . On topic, I've never had a problem with discoloration. Quote
kenny3011 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 Heres a pic Not sure if you can really tell though.. Quote
vexorian Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Define new. The gunship was released in 2002 so the white pieces could have gotten affected by the place in which they were stored. I heard plenty of times that if the storage area is affected by smoke the discoloration can happen :(. Quote
Rick Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Judging from the pictures, that's about the off-white I was talking about earlier that I've had with small tiles. Quote

Since he is talking about a new Republic Gunship, it could be that he refers to the newer 7676 Republic Attack Gunship from the Clone Wars series and not the earlier 7163 Republic Gunship. Opening a newly bought 7163 to build it first hand is an "expensive decision". Quote

Big Cam Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Call TLG and ask for replacement parts, offer to esnd back your pieces as well, that way they'll know you are serious, because otherwise asking for a large amount of replacment parts may sound fishy. Quote

I prefer a little color variation. It adds realism to most MOCs. Quote
Mariann Asanuma Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I heard plenty of times that if the storage area is affected by smoke the discoloration can happen :(. The discoloration is not only due to smoke, it just happens. Florescent lights, sunlight, it happens lots of ways. Unless they are noticeably yellow -- like older bricks -- the different color is due to the different mixture of plastic they are now using. Newer bricks are noticeably different even when they are "the same" color, especially if you hold them up to the light. Older bricks don't let any light through the brick, newer ones do. The slightly different discolorations are unfortunately the new normal. Quote
AllanSmith Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Go to the bottom of LEGO.com web page and select customer service. You can select the set and parts that are faulty. I have used it a couple of times for faulty, miscoloured or missing parts. I noticed in this years 3177 Smart car that my doors are off white. Quote
CP5670 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 You could ask for replacements, but this issue is so widespread that chances are they will just send you more bad bricks. It's easy to tell the difference in the opacity by looking at a light source through them. Quote
