February 3, 201015 yr That's a hard one. I work a 30 hour week in University term time with a 9-5 day at university (out of term time I work a 37 hour week), add in the rough hour each day spent on uni work/revision, so 7 hours and 5 hours a week on another commitment... You get a total that means nothing. I can spend upwards of 3 hours on a single MOC without noticing. I am sorting in dribs and drabs so that doesn't take much time. Only the really big sets take any significant amounts of time and I get those once or twice a year but I buy a smallish set at least once a week with an average of three a month (guessing) over a year. I suppose in a week I can spend 4 hours over the working week and 6 on weekends. In the spring and autumn that can extend to 12 hours a week as the temperature in my building area is comfortable for long stretches, unlike the cold in winter and heat in summer. Then again, if I have no ideas on what to do then I spend as little as two hours in the week with Lego. If you counted EB time then it would probably work out that I spend a days worth of time here every week. As Lego is my major hobby, writing occuring in my lunch break at work, I spend a lot of time with it. My friends are all spread about the country at the moment so I don't get a chance to go out often, so I have more time with not much else to do, Lego is my default activity.
February 3, 201015 yr Great Topic! I usually spent 2 hrs a week with the actual bricks. Another couple of hours on this site and bricklink. I hope to be able to spend more time as I grow my business and can set aside some more free time.
February 3, 201015 yr Too much. If time on here counts, the only time I'm not with my Lego is when I sleep and work, and watch TV. I only do something out of the ordinary once a week. I even eat with Lego! As of right now I have 3 unopened sets, and I just opened a fourth. Call me pathetic, but I guess you can say I choose the way I want to live. I'd say I might be a good 1% of their income, or if not, my total spending added up over the years would be one percent currently...
February 3, 201015 yr I have to go with 1 hour a day with the bricks - a very rough average. My MOC speed is usually painfully slow (weeks for a small aircraft to months on larger builds) as I must often meditate and reflect on the placement of each brick.
February 3, 201015 yr On an average week day I speen every were from 0 to 3 hours, depends on my mood. When Admiral Woodhouse comes over on Saturdays we can end up spending 10 hours....easy.
February 4, 201015 yr Well I usually spend about 1-2 hours a day on EB, and another 1 for building. But on weekends I build a 1-2 more hours than usual. So on an average week nearly 20 hours.
February 4, 201015 yr With actual bricks? I think my high for during classes is about 2 hours a week. However, I spend an awful lot of time on Eurobricks during really boring lectures. Doesn't help that I have so little Lego in my dorm room, I spend more time wanting all the stuff I've got at home since my builds right now are really fragile.
February 4, 201015 yr Interesting topic. For me, it all depends how much is going on in life. When I was in school, I didn't have 95% of my collection with me, so didn't use the little I did have. Now that schools done, I reunited with my collection and have it with me at my new place. When I have a day off, I could spend 5 or 6 hours dinking around sorting or building MOCs. Sometimes I don't touch it for a week. I find that if you don't fiddle with Lego everyday, its better in the long run. It's nice to crack open a set that you forgot you had and build it. I guess the time spent is different with everyone, but a break is always good as it make you enjoy the hobby that much more.
February 4, 201015 yr Well, does thinking about lego count? ´Cause that´s all I do when I´m at school. Except for that, I feel that legomaniac83´s post pretty much sums up my thoughts: Interesting topic. For me, it all depends how much is going on in life. February 7, 201114 yr Hi everyone! I like to watch great MOCs and follow LEGO news, but I do not tend to build myself that much. Sometimes I have a phase, in which I build something, but no often. The main reason behind this is that my LEGO collection is pretty old by now, (from end 90s, begin 2000s,) and most bricks are not usable for the builds I (try to) make today, namely cockpit windows, wedges, car wheels, etc.. Buying bricks is not something I do very often, only if I REALLY need bricks. So I was wondering, how much do you spend on LEGO, averagely? Like, per month, or per year. Do you spend it mostly on bricklink (specific bricks), do you also buy sets (something which I haven't done for many years) or only garage sale-like deals? (or nothing at all?) In my case, as I said before, I nearly never buy anything new, because of the money. LEGO is pretty expensive hobby, unfortunately, if you want to play it well. If I buy something, always specific bricks for bricklink. Per such a project I try not to exceed €20-€30 budget. That's often it for at least half a year. I'm curious to hear your stories!
February 7, 201114 yr I haven't been buying new LEGO for 5 years but about a year ago i started buying from Bricklink. Used about $200 on Star Wars minifigs and random bricks (to complete some models with missing bricks). Then i didn't use any money on LEGO for about 6 months. But in the month of January (this year of course) i bought the Tower Bridge, Grand Emporium, Fallingwater, some minifigures and some Toy Story with is about $900. That is just for a month, but I am sure it will be some time before i buy something new. (Minifig serie 4 or a new Modular Building) I guess about $50-$100 a month wouldn't be weird to use.
February 7, 201114 yr my purchases are speratic and change frequently. one month I saved up and purchased both the Grand Emporium and the Fire Brigade, then I didn't buy anything for a month and a half. not because I didn't have any money, I just didn't want anything really because now I'm spoiled on Modular Building. Then about 3 weeks ago I was at the local Wal-Mart getting a few things and I stopped and looked at the Lego Isle and low and behold they had the Sports Car 8402 and MiniFig Collection 8401 on sale for 5 bucks a piece so I grabbed two 8402 and one 8401 so that was only 15 bucks and now I'm back to not spending anything on them. Its really what I can think of that I need or what is on sale when I'm in a store. I'm thinking I'm about to make a Pick a Brick purchase or a Brick link purchase on some bulk brick and snot for some Mocs I'm working on. So like I said it changes a lot, its whatever I find really.
February 7, 201114 yr Hi everyone! I like to watch great MOCs and follow LEGO news, but I do not tend to build myself that much... There is an existing topic over here. I have merged it over. Please continue here. Thanks. WhiteFang
