Zepher Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I would like to flip through the book quickly and see if he made any notes on the pages or if there is a piece of paper being used as a bookmark or something with a note on it.
iamded Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Oh no, the poor boy! What a way to go! Such a tragedy. Don't worry dear, no one will be able to harm you now I've got my knife back. For those without weapons... "The bones of victims make excellent weapons" ... So each of you, break off a couple of pieces of Jack Baxter and we'll be all set. *Removing Jack Baxter's bones would be difficult since his skin and organs still cover his body...* Oh My god Stanton's dead! * Shrieks* This is horrible! The poor fellow was stripped clean of his skin and organs and other parts! All that's left of this victim are his bones! Clearly I'm not the only one to put two and two together. Let his death not be in vain... I suggest a moment of silence... <Takes the pointiest rib bone available while Rich's head is bowed in silence>
Hinckley Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 I would like to flip through the book quickly and see if he made any notes on the pages or if there is a piece of paper being used as a bookmark or something with a note on it. *On the cover page there is a very light inscription. The words "Torches: North, East, South, West" seem to have been scratched in...*
I Scream Clone Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Ok can we get the torches and put them back in the chamber in a North South East West pattern? From memory the statues were east and west. Is that right?
Shadows Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 *On the cover page there is a very light inscription. The words "Torches: North, East, South, West" seem to have been scratched in...* AHA! I feel like that's even more confirmation of his being up to no good. We messed with all that stuff to learn that N-E-S-W bit and he knew what it meant all along. It wouldn't surprise me if he did whatever it was that trigger the disappearance of those freaky statues. I vote against tampering with them any further, look where it's gotten us so far... As for Stanton... he's out there watching us and waiting for his opportunity. No matter what we do at this point, we can't ever break up into groups of less than 3-4 and preferably more. Safety in numbers playing the odds that most of each group will be good.

I vote against tampering with them any further, look where it's gotten us so far... I don't think Stanton necessarily scratched that in. I think that it was scratch by the same person/creature who scratched out the stuff relating to the anagram out in front of the ruins. The fact that this has been repeated three times now makes it clear that the gods are trying to tell us something. I don't think we will be able to see the other rooms until we solve this puzzle. *Returns to grand chamber and hopes that others will follow. Manipulates the statues like so: SE Statue: Turns hand so torch points North SW Statue: Lowers arm so torch points East NW Statue: Turns hand so torch points South NE Statue: Lowers arm so torch points West Crosses his fingers*
iamded Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I thought "Torches: North, East, South, West" perhaps had something to do with which torches to light, but then I realised there are only 4 torches here anyway. Well, there goes that theory...
Shadows Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 The fact that this has been repeated three times now makes it clear that the gods are trying to tell us something. But are they trying to help or hurt? Things haven't gone well so far ...

I'll hold on to this in case we need it in a puzzle later. Maybe now we should explore the other rooms? Maybe we can start with one of the libraries? Or do we want to look around for Jack's legs at all?
Dannylonglegs Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Oooh, a secret passage. Very interesting. I'll second that "Investigate the library." unless there are more puzzles yet to be solved in this room. I think that perhaps the Snake-demon statue might have went into the passage somehow, and taken poor Jack's legs with it.

It is the hideous head of a stone idol...* Great work Fred! You're pretty smart for a security guard... Or do we want to look around for Jack's legs at all? I do! *Is there any trail of blood to indercate there the legs are? Also, was he cut cleanly or roughly?* ...after that I'm all for a trip to the library. *There isn't very good news out in the courtyard:* Another death so fast?! I'd like to check if there's a blood trail there too, but all things considered I'd rather wait until we're all there. *(...and I'd like to have a piece of rib too... )* "Interesting. However, Mr. Baxter and Hector are certainly dead. In Hector's case, perhaps scorpions are attracted to smoke but Mr. Baxter was clearly brutally murdered. Did his body just fall out of the sky? Where did it come from? How did that happen?" ....er Johnson, how long before we're considered missing and someone comes looking for us? Well, I suggested we examine the remains earlier to determine if he was cut or ripped or what, but for some reason we never did that. I want to know too!
Hinckley Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 *The answers to your questions and more exciting puzzles will be coming soon in the next chapter...*
