Ha!

You have to admit that a lot of movies in recent years are reguritated pap or have the substance of a wet paper bag. I sat through the twilight movies the other night (under duress) and my brain almost dissolved. Truly abysmal. I really wish there were a movement to oust turgid effects driven movies and replace them with thought provoking character and dialogue driven movies. Perhaps not the dour Oliver Stone type of movie, but unless you actively hunt out independent movies the constant deluge of Hollywood rubbish really does melt the mind. James Cameron's Ferngully remake Avatar is a prime example of the rubbish being churned out. And the fact that audiences have been dumbed down so far they'll accept such rubbish as the norm is just depressing.

Personally, I agree with you. BUT, not every movie made these days is bad. I would suggest looking here. They may look like kids films, but they are some of the best in the world. They have great character development and interesting plots with overarching themes. If you don't enjoy UP or tear up at the end of Toy Story 3, then you have no soul.

2012 - what a waste of time and money: the kindest, least colourful thing I can say about that movie.

I'd always though how ironic it would be if production on this movie was delayed and it was realeased in 2013 default_laugh_new.gif

D-Day, the 6th of June. What I'd wanted was a cool Normandy movie. What I got was like a horrid war-based remake of While You Were Sleeping.

Yeah, saying that every movie made in the past 30-40 years is a HUGELY generalized statement. I doubt that you have seen every single movie to be able to say such a thing, and even if you did, you'd really have to be heartless not to enjoy marvels such as the PIXAR movies or thought-provoking exceptions such as Inception.

And I think everyone should stop naming Twilight in this topic. It's just redundant.

Actually I enjoyed UP but Toy Story 3 was cloyingly sacharin.

To be honest I spend an awful lot of time watching movies. Have done all my life. It would be impossible to watch every movie made but browsing through my Mothers book of 1,000 movies to see before you die I noted that I'd seen 90% of them. My partner and I actively seek out the worst movies ever made to see if we can stand to sit through them until the end. Including made for TV movies. On the subject of Inception, that movie would be nothing without the special effects. To my mind that doesn't make it a good movie it makes it a lazy movie that serves more as a showcase for digital effects artists than as a piece of entertainment. CGI should only ever augment a movie not dominate it. unless the movie is entirely CGI.

However getting back to movies I'll never unsee I offer a hyper low budget horror spoof gem called 'Trees'. :classic: However a super low budget offering released this year called 'Lost Future' is really quite good despite riffing on Star Wars both in costume design and music. The overall movie is well put together and despite having a tiny cast it's hugely entertaining.

I suggest that you watch that movie again without your nostalgia goggles because if you look past the visual effects, you'll see it's actually a clever, unique story about the concept of physically planting an idea in a persons mind by entering dreams within a dream and the quest of a troubled man who tries to fight his feelings of guilt to regain the life that he had lost, and it makes you think about whether the world you hold for real is real or just a dream. I don't think there has ever been a movie like this before.

The way you put it, it sounds like the plots of Dark City meet The Matrix!

Although Oky's against making sweeping generalizations, I'm going to make one anyway.

If you go to a movie that is released between May 1st and August 31st and are expecting a mind-blowing, deep plot: DON'T. Summer movies are, for the most part, about flashy special effects and shallow plotlines that barely hold together. It doesn't make the films bad, per se, just that you need to adjust to a different standard as to what is good. If you really want deep plots and good moviemaking, go see the releases from late November through December, avoiding the obvious holiday junk that always pop up.

As for another movie I wish I could unwatch, how about Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Easily Mel Brooks' worst film, I feel it was worse than Robin Hood: Men in Tights (and that's saying something, as Men in Tights was pretty poor in and of itself).

Toy Story 3, Inception, and The Dark Knight were all released in the summer. Sorry, but this generalization does not pass my personal test.

Don't disrespect a Leslie Neilsen movie until at least a few more weeks, give the guy some RIP! Definitely not the best film, but had its moments.

There are always exceptions that prove the rule. I do believe I said "...for the most part..."

What, too soon? D:D&LI was an awful film, and no one is going to convince me otherwise.

Bad movie thread? Sweet.

The Blair Witch Project - Still mad about losing 90 minutes of my life and this was, what, eleven years ago? Props to them for raking in heaps of cash though. :hmpf_bad:

Paranormal Activity - See above.

The Fourth Kind - See above. Lol.

Jungle 2 Jungle - Saw this during a christmas break in high school because of lack of things to do. We had to walk out of the theater, it was that bad.

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure The Human Centipede fits under all three categories, as my thought when hearing about it was basically, "Wtf, why?! That is so disturbing."

'The Crazies' (2010 re-make) would in my opinion be a 'Why?' one, due solely to the ending. It kind of ruined the movie for me, but I'm just that kind of guy.

I think 'Superstar' (the 1999 one) is another 'wtf' one. It has the social awkwardness akin to Napoleon Dynamite, but it just wasn't as good. I always appreciate Will Ferrel though, so that redeems some points.

the remake of The Hills Have Eyes

It was nasty. Saw it on TV because my roommate really enjoys slasher movies. And it's not like I can't stomach slasher movies, or enjoy a little bit of over the top.

I finally watched the whole of Thunderball yesterday. I'm a big James Bond fan but that movie is such an absolute yawnfest that I never made it the whole way through before

Yes. Should have just been called "007 spends even more time on the beach than usual"

BRÜNO with Sasha Cohen a thousand times! Dunno whether this was shown in English cinemas too, but this particular movie could be considered the origin of our dear friend, the expression "WTF", an abbreviation for... I think I had better leave that sentence unfinished... for various reasons... *awkward silence* ... *crickets chirping* ... *western hay balls rolling around*... Hey, I've just included all of the indicators of awkwardness in one sentence, give me some credit men! :classic:

Seriously though , BRÜNO is some weird sh**.

New Moon.

I wanted to gouge my eyes out, horrible horrible film. Hated it. Yuch yuch yuch yuch yuch!

Now I need to empty my brain of the horrors the film brought me. And the lack of logic. Vampires that sparkle in daylight yet he's at a school next to a window where it's all daylight outside and he doesn't sparkle? WTF.

They sparkle in sunlight, not daylight. They can walk about quite happily on an overcast day

I'd have to say the new Nightmare On Elm Street.Couldnt bring myself to watch it til the end.The originals were not the best but i was a kid when i saw them and i didnt sleep well for ages after but the new one is terrible.Save 90 minutes of your life and just dont bother!

I've not seen any twilight films (because i'm not a masochist) but the thing to remember is that think of everything you know about vampires...

...Then throw this information into a fire, because none of it's relevant to this horrible series.

Just read something, somewhere about Twilight:

Twilight: One girl's struggle to choose between necrophilia and bestiality.

Made me laugh out loud.

Now back on topic...

More like:

In the olden days you were afraid of Vampires, because they'd feed on your torn jugular.

Nowadays you're afraid, because they keep on bugging you about how they cannot deal with unlife and its ramifiications...

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour.

Definately one for the WTF category! That horrible film is what we have to thank for film clips like these:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBRss3HUipw"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBRss3HUipw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBRss3HUipw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I liked that movie and that clip
