I have a strange problem- I can't take figures from one set and put them in another! I bought Drawbridge Defense on sale (for the figs) and demolished it for pieces. Now, I can't use the figures with my hopefully-bought-in-April Medieval Market Village! (The Knight, Queen and Jester to be exact. I thought they'd go perfect in the scene, but no, I have to feel wrong and insecure about not including the set! Having the Drawbridge and the Village in one scene would look horrible, especially with the skeleton warriors. I just can't mix them for some reason. I can't keep a minifigure that doesn't have all it's parts, either, or I feel wrong. I'm also as you can guess fully purist.

Does anyone have this problem? I doubt it, seeing as there are such skilled MOCers on here, who mix sets willingly.

OCD much? I say just get over it, you're being totally silly. :sceptic:

Of course you can mix minifigs, like you can mix other pieces as well. And the Drawbridge Defense fits perfectly with the other Fantasy Era sets (MMV included), just take out the skeletons if you're bothered by them.

... Seriously. *rolls eyes*

you're not serious right ?

I moslty build spacethemed stuff, but I buy all sorts of LEGO, just to get parts ! Also, I've got a Blacktron 1 army that has all the differend heads I've got !

Please , If you're that fanatical about it, go and collect boxes of LEGO, don't open them , put them on a shelf and just look at them... but hey , there's no fun in that for MOC-builders.

Keep in mind that by instructionsheet, you can always figure out what belongs to one set or the other.. but don't be silly ! LEGO is for fun! Building and letting your imagination run wild !!

*Saint gently kicks some sence into you, and hope that one day you become a great MOC-builder  .

All of my old LEGO from my childhood is in one big bin, but I cannot bring myself to mix any of the sets I've bought since getting back into lego, 95% SW, they are all in their own individual baggies, except multiples, like 5 clone battle packs all go into the same baggie.

I don't know if that qualifies as any form of purist, but I do understand it. If I want a minifig for parts, I buy two of the set (or two of the figure on Bricklink) and keep one in it's original state. In your example, I would buy two drawbridge defenses and keep one as is. At that point I could use both the entire second set and it's minifigs for whatever else. Mentally, however, I would keep track of what doesn't belong in MMV and at some point it would be separated back out.

I do understand the part about it not feeling right sometimes, but have found that this works fairly well for me. Then again, I also buy huge random minifig lots on eBay and 'restore' them, turning the figures back into the combinations they were originally designed as. I collect every variation of every minifig in that way, so I may have 10 virtually identical figures, but with different leg colours or hair.

Yes, it might be a tiny bit OCD, but don't let it worry you too much, look where it's gotten me!

If you already started quite philosophical discussion let me add here.

I sometimes feel that when minifigure is killed in a battle he should be buried and not reused. I am seriously thinking about creating huge cemetery for my minifigures. Is anybody else having the same problems?

I feel so 'normal' after reading this thread

I buy most sets for the set and not for the bricks and I make sure I keep the bricks that belong to the set with the set. Also, my childhood collection is kept totally separate from my AFOL collection. And I only have 'new' bricks in my bulk supply (mainly from sets bought for parts, usually at a discount).

:oh:

Well, you could always send them to me... My minifig bin is a great cemetery! Seriously!

Shadows, I always knew you were a psycho, but I didn't know you were that mental!

I never claimed to be uber-purist, I just explained how I am.

And why on earth would you assume I was talking to you? If I was replying to you directly instead of the thread topic I wold have indicated using an arrow "^" or by quoting you. :pir_wacko:

I can not, because of the emotional attachment

I am specially mad when my sons friend who visits us kills the minifigures by taking apart head, torso, legs and mixes them. I still can not find some of the heads from last week visit

What emotional attachment? You wanted to bury your minifigs!

I can see not mixing heads from different eras- the older heads, the ones form the 90's and todays (not to mention those blank Star Wars faces) are all separate in my collection. There is something special about a "pure fig" so I keep some (batman and some others) separate but for the most part I have no problem mixing them.

Shadows has summarised my thoughts in a very good manner. If I only have one orignal set, I will leave it as it is, for the way it should be, and if I love to have the same set for parts pack or any other additional expansion, I will buy a second, third set as supplements, similar to the scenario above for the Drawbridge Defense and MMVs.

For some of you whom are aware of my stupid habit (buying multiples), is because when I was a child, I had a bad experience. I love to MOCs, and play around with my Classic Town sets, and tends to tear them apart and build or integrate into other funny little creations. Yes, it promotes building, but for my case, doing this sort of stunts without a backup made it a one way journey for most of my Classic Town sets. I try to restore them, but it's practically impossible having to sort, search, find parts and instructions in my childhood bins, and ultimately I can't restore most of the sets I wanted. I was really devastated back then, and the only way for me to get them, is to buy "used" Classic Town sets once more at a reasonable price.

By the way, this topic seems to be much suited in the General Discussion forum. I will move it there.

Honestly, the topic starter simply sounds like a collector who can't bring himself to mix his sets. That isn't purism of any kind. To argue that keeping sets together makes you an uber-purist is simply silly given that LEGO is a building toy.

Strange topic.

Strange topic indeed. I agree with you, and I amended the title slightly, so we are able to keep this discussion on a relevant pace.

I can mix minifigs but I really dont like dismantling sets for other things. I know its kinda paranoid but I would just hate it if I lost a piece and I had to use a different colour for it and I would be costly to buy another piece of bricklink because of postage to New Zealand

Ha ha this reminds me of me several years ago. I couldn't ever mix up the figures from my different Star Wars sets without feeling "dirty". I would actually have each set on display on the same dresser but I could never mix up the parts between them. When I finished playing with them I would be sure to put everything back with it's respective set when I had finished playing with it. Even with duplicate figures like stormtroopers I could tell which one went where due to small differences in the fading or printing on each figure.

At least I've finally grown out of it and know allow all my figures and sets mix and mingle

I put the Agents 8970 Robo-Attack in my 10184 Town Plan and it looks great. A massive evil robot attacking a 1950's town.

I have trouble mixing and matching mini-figs though. It kind of freaks me to leave mini-figs in parts. Even making the Admiral Ackbar-cop in my avatar left me anxious, and I had to return them back quickly :cry_sad:

I'm sorry that you don't like the topic, I was just wondering if anyone else felt this way.

When I buy a set and I lose one piece, I end up giving the set to my cousin or worse throwing it out. I have loads of other OCD-like habits. For an example, I have the Solar Sailer and I can't find a piece. Same with some castle.

I realize this is kind of a stupid topic, but people shouldn't be offended enough to post a snappy comment. I'm just a kid.

Exaclty how I feel. When I go to my cousins and rebuild some of the sets he unbuilt, I'm extremely picky about which pieces are used (no replacements).

I don't know. I just can't do it, and it might not be as silly as it sounds. I just bought the Snowtrooper bp and I can't get rid of the rocket launcher base (which I dislike).

You bring up some good points, I just hope I didn't offend you or anything.
