slacker int Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) Hi everyone! This is my first moc to be posted to eurobricks... This truck is based off the new 3179 repair truck. I like the set, but felt it could use some work. My new truck is more representative of a typical hydro utility truck as seen here in Ontario. The model features opening doors, hood, and compartments, stabilizers that lower to support the truck, a fully functional boom with bucket that can rotate 360 degrees, and a variety of tools, accessories, and warning pylons/barriers. The truck can fit two workers. (sorry about the poor quality of the photos... more posted on mocpages) Comments and feedback are greatly appreciated! cheers, adam Edited February 4, 2010 by slacker int Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Excellent MOC 'Slacker Int' ! The orange line through the truck breaks up all that yellow, but it really works. The cherry picker well done in plates and hinge plates. You have done a fantastic job and I'm a conformist! 'Slacker Int' ! Quote
Rick Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 This is a really nice and realistic MOC, Adam. I really like the construction of the boom (the brick-built striping is a nice little touch) and the fact that you made it 7-wide in the back. Also the long nose is a nice break from the typical flat-nose vehicles that TLG tends to produce. btw: There are some really nice CAD as well as brick-built creations in your MOCpages Quote
MetroiD Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Veeery nice MOC mate! The truck looks awesome and very realistic, I like how you've made it "grow" from the original version. Looking forward to seeing more MOCs from you - this one has definitely been inspiring, great job Quote
danim Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 vry nice moc you have there, is it based of a gmc by any chance Quote
slacker int Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 vry nice moc you have there, is it based of a gmc by any chance Thanks for the positive comments everyone! As for the design, the truck is not really based off anything in particular. The front end and cab is essentially a copy of the 7686 helicopter transport truck... I wanted the truck to look realistic while retaining playability! adam Quote
prateek Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Welcome to EB! Nice to see another fellow Canadian here. I really like this truck. It's a vast improvement over the real set, and I like how the crane folds away Quote
sens1992 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Wow, this is one great truck! Very well done and a better version than the actual LEGO one. Great job. Quote
GC8Monkey Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Spot on! Aside from the colour, your Hydro truck looks exactly like the real ones out here in B.C. Very nicely done. I really like the stabilizers and the cones. Very simple but effective. A great upgrade from the official set. Quote

I actually wanted to build a white utility truck with green and blue stripes similar to the units used by BC hydo... but I couldn't not use those yellow stickered bricks with the hydro logos on my moc. The yellow with orange striping is actually based off the colour of the trucks where i live, so i guess it worked out! Quote
Ras 74 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 That is a very good truck you created. Looks VERY American to me Very nice details such as the steps, and the stabilizers. I like the orange colour you added. Did you try different colours of that? Quote
BlueBard Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Without doubt, one of the wondefulest MODs ever seen (well, I know it's almost a MOC! ) Quote
Big Cam Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 No doubt in my mind this could be an actual LEGO set, in fact if you wouldn't have told me a MOC, I would have thought it was. I love how big the boom is, adn all the storage boxes. I'd buy this. Quote
slacker int Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 Blogged on Classic-Town.net Wow! I actually checked classic-town before I saw your post on eurobricks and was treated to a nice surprise, Thanks Rick! And thanks, everyone else for the positive comments, glad you like it! adam Quote
