jonwil Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 What parts do you wish TLG would use less of (or stop using altogether)? My list: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=60599 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=60598 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30035 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb321 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb263 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb333 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb86 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb410 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb274 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb89c http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb298 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973px437 Quote
The Cobra Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Yep, Space6901 is right. Plus, I would love to not see any more of these: and Quote
brickzone Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Well, while stuck on mostly just over-used minifig parts, I'd add Spielberg's face onto the list too. I don't have an objection to large parts in general, I think sometimes they can be useful for quickly and easily making your structure larger, but I haven't found the castle tower piece with window very useful (the one used in Harry Potter, Knight's Kingdom and still today in recent Castle and even to be in Prince of Persia). Big Cam Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I honestly can't think of a piece that I don't like or I think shoudl be used less. Everything can be used in some way. Quote
Ralph_S Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Some of those minifig parts indeed are used rather often. However, LEGO keep bringing out new designs and compared to the torsos that were available back when I was a child today's choice is overwhelming . If I don't like the ones I get in sets, there are plenty of others that can buy from bricklink. Cheers, Ralph Quote
David Thomsen Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Two things. This: Which keeps appearing as a general tool for holding up bars, even though it clearly has toes. It has toes! Can't they design a generic piece to do the same thing? And this: Which I don't know what the heck it's supposed to be, but it keeps appearing over and over, usually for no reason except to get mileage out of the mould. Plus most of the torsos listed in the first post. Quote
Rick Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Which keeps appearing as a general tool for holding up bars, even though it clearly has toes. It has toes! Can't they design a generic piece to do the same thing? Those aren't toes. It's just meant to be decorative. And by having two different sides it can be used with or without this decoration showing. Use your imagination... look past the skeleton leg. Most of the minifig torsos and heads used in the City line are overused, but that 'Steven Spielberg' face is definitely at the top of the list! Plus I'd like to see less caps and more minifig hair being used. Quote
RileyC Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Different coloured pins. I dont like how they have to keep changing colours it annoys me a lot. Quote
Svelte Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I toss my Spielberg and Creepy Bearded Man minifig heads in the trash nowadays. Yes! I'm shameless. I'd rather they spend eternity in landfill rather than find a home elsewhere. I agree about this one. They seem to use it a lot when 2 2x2 plates would do just as well, or as an odd-looking decorative piece. This piece, especially in pearl silver: This piece is less common now Exo-Force is dead, but still annoying: This is the worst flame piece LEGO has ever produced, and thankfully seems to have been replaced by the nice new 2009 one. I know, it's only in 5 sets but I have four of those 5 so it seems like I have more There's nothing wrong with this piece, but I hate they do massive runs of it without doing the matching roof pieces. It was bad enough in pearl gold, but now Kingdoms will have masses of these in dark green: I know I'm not alone in hating this overused piece. Sure, it was novel in 2005 but 5 years later we need something better! I understand the necessity of this piece, I'm just sick of them. I must have almost 100 in black alone: Quote
vexorian Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Different coloured pins. I dont like how they have to keep changing colours it annoys me a lot. As far as I remember there was only one change around 2003. The 'special' pins (hybrid, triple) became blue ones. The loose pins became tan, the 2-axles became red and I think 3-axles became light gray. Was there another change in color? Quote
CP5670 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) I know I'm not alone in hating this overused piece. Sure, it was novel in 2005 but 5 years later we need something better! I agree with this. I don't mind that piece itself but the fact that it's used as a mudguard on everything. I will also add this wheel: The one thing that has remained with us from the juniorization era is the overuse of this wheel. It works fine on trucks but is used on almost every City vehicle TLG makes these days, despite looking kind of like an off-road wheel. As far as I remember there was only one change around 2003. The 'special' pins (hybrid, triple) became blue ones. The loose pins became tan, the 2-axles became red and I think 3-axles became light gray. Was there another change in color? The change with the triple pin was more recent than the others, and was done in 2008. The bush pin also appears in other colors these days, but is predominantly red. I don't like all these odd colored pins either, as their bright, primary colors stand out on Technic models and look bad. Edited February 5, 2010 by CP5670 Quote
jonwil Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 As far as I remember there was only one change around 2003. The 'special' pins (hybrid, triple) became blue ones. The loose pins became tan, the 2-axles became red and I think 3-axles became light gray. Was there another change in color? Originally there was the non friction pin-and-axle piece and the non-friction pin. Both were made in light grey (although 1 or 2 sets had the non friction pin and axle in black). Then they introduced the friction pin and the 3l friction pin, both in black. Later, they introduced a black friction version of the axle pin and a grey non friction version of the 3l pin. The non friction 3l pin and non friction axle pin both became tan with the friction 3l pin and friction axle pin becoming blue. The regular 2l friction pin is still black and the regular 2l non friction pin is still grey. The 3/4 pin has always been dark grey. As for axles, they first had the old 2l axle. Then they introduced a new 2l axle with notches (presumably to make it easier to remove). Axles used to be black then later they changed the odd length 3,5 and 7 axles to grey to make it easier to tell the difference between odd and even length axles. The 2l axle seems to be made in both red and black. Quote
samurai-turtle Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I not sure if it is their yet, but it is getting close is the 1x1 slopes. It is all most in every set now days. Quote
Rick Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I agree about this one. They seem to use it a lot when 2 2x2 plates would do just as well, or as an odd-looking decorative piece. Agreed, it doesn't work as a decorative piece in most cases, but it's even worse when they use it to replace regular plates! I know, it's only in 5 sets but I have four of those 5 so it seems like I have more It was bad enough in pearl gold, but now Kingdoms will have masses of these in dark green: I understand the necessity of this piece, I'm just sick of them. Lordofdragonss Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 A lot of "new" faces, in example: The scared one- I have over 9 of them.... Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I wish Lego would stop changing the pin and peg colours all the time. It looks neater to have the frictionless ones in grey (normal and hybrid) the friction pegs in black and the axels in grey or black (I do like the light grey of the axles because they haven't replaced black totaly) having red, blue and tan just adds too many colours and can also mean I have to sit and devise panels to cover them all up. Everything else is great though . Multiples of figure heads and torso's are fine, I mean, give 'em different hair and its a new person, treat them like Nurse(s) Joy(s) and Officer(s) Jenny(s) The torsos? Have you not stepped outside of your house and seen the high concentration of one sort of coat or shirt? Makes it a more realistic scene if there are a large number of people in variations of the same outfit. Quote
Corvus Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Easy. The stupid flick-fire piece, and the clone heads in SW. Scratch that, all fleshy heads. Quote
escortmad79 Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Double sided heads! They're ridiculous, hairpieces & hats don't cover the whole of the unused face & it just looks weird! Quote
Dr. Steve Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Which keeps appearing as a general tool for holding up bars, even though it clearly has toes. It has toes! Can't they design a generic piece to do the same thing? I agree, I am taking it off the railings on the Imperial Flagship....seems so out of place. It could be a nice piece if they would just lose the toes. Hmm... any part made in China? AMEN Quote
no_skill Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I certainly agree with , But definately would add and . The clear ones are ok for windows, but as a bad excuse for wall construction, I can't stand 'em. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I not sure if it is their yet, but it is getting close is the 1x1 slopes. It is all most in every set now days. Many people voted that best part of the year! I don't have any particular pieces on my list in general, but I really dislike any piece that doesn't connect well with others. Quote
samurai-turtle Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Many people voted that best part of the year! Just because it is the best part, does not mean it is not getting overused. Easy. The stupid flick-fire piece, and the clone heads in SW. Scratch that, all fleshy heads. I will agree about the flick-fire function. Is it not in any Star Wars sets today? That will probably be in second place. Quote
