As a counterpoint to the other topic about which parts you wish LEGO would use less of, which parts do you have a secret fondness for? I don't mean the usual ones that everyone loves, but the ones that may be slightly oddball or even *whispers* <insert that tiresome argument>? They can be produced in the millions or only found in a select number of sets! As long as you  them dearly. Try and tell us why you find them so appealing, too.

I love this propeller piece, especially in green. Sure, it's massive, but there's just something about it which says 'giant cartoony plant' which I adore:

30078.jpg

A lot of people don't like these rock pieces, but I love these ones introduced in the 2005 Alpha Team sets - especially the frosted medium blue versions - great for icy landscaping!

47847pb01L.jpg

Sloping wedge pieces (both L and R versions). There's something very appealing about the way this gradates from slope to ordinary brick. It's a tricksy brick! I wish these were more commonly available in landscaping colours instead of white, as you can get such lovely natural looking curvature from using these en-masse.

This cupboard piece is brilliant! I can't understand why they only used it in 3 sets back in the early 80s! It fits the standard sized cupboard trays *or* a 2 x 3 x 4 door piece and would have been great to flesh out home furniture displays like pantries or wardrobes. A missed opportunity!

4534.gif

On another furniture related note, how could you not want this piece? I don't own it but who doesn't want a prefab minifig bath?

30018.jpg

And finally for this batch (I have more!) I've always liked the single column piece for architectural detailing. It somehow looks impressive and if the rest of your creation is detailed, it doesn't matter if you use the occasional large pillar

I love...

...too! The shape is just beautiful.

What else?

6538b.png

Yeah, it's just a connector, but I love the texture!

32305.jpg

I just love the shape, and I'm surprised it didn't get used outiside of RoboRiders.

Such an under appreciated part, perfect for snub nosed ships!

Ooops! Picture reversal...

This hair:

It says, "I look pretty, but I can also be an action hero when I need to be".

Um... actually, that's an accountable fondness, isn't it...

What about this:

When I was a kid, I wanted to be the pirate who was lost out to sea in this tub with nothing but an oar.

Someow I nearly allways buy a frog, or multiple frogs everytime I place a bricklink order:

x223.jpg

Don't they just look cute! I love the little beady eyes.

I'm also very fond of the dreaded spiral stair case:

40243c01.gif

At first I didn't like this part at all but after seeing the many uses (ice cream, garlic, steam) I grew very attatched to these babies:

6254.jpg

The last part for today is the teapot:

33006.gif

I just love the oversized look.

That's all

I like just about any colored (not trans-black or clear) transparent windscreen, and any kinds of printed arrow tiles. If a Bricklink store I'm shopping at has any such pieces in new condition, I always buy some even if I don't have any particular use in mind for them.

I like the Bucket. I in fact have a pink one from my sisters belville  which I can't find an image of, even though I do have one :sceptic:

I love the dynamite.

64728.jpg

It so 'splodey looking :classic:

30213pb01.jpg

Also the gem, many a MOC had it as a power crystal

There are two parts like that, This one didn't see much use, true, but this one sure did. It's the technic axle connector that was used for general purposes 1993-2007, but was replaced in 2008 by a smooth version for uses other than holding driving rings in place.

I have a soft spot for these:

48729.jpg

2921.jpg

30136.jpg

also the 1x4 version! This one is pure for looks, started as a child seeing the 1x2's appear in Brown in Western sets.

6091.jpg

+ other versions of curved slopes

3024.jpg

I do not know why exactly I love these bricks so much. Probably because of their possible uses.

They tend to be the most ordered parts by me for MOCs aswell.

+ most animals get the flame inside going!

This piece, I got it from the Shrieking Shack set I love love love it. Printing! That piney wood grain effect just melts my heart.

Just a beautiful design! Who doesn't love this piece?

Fabuland arch... just gorgeous. I am soooo glad it has made it back into some sets recently.

Also this baby, it takes me back to my first Pirate sets as a small child.

Sorry that was a mistake; I got the captions the wrong way round. I love both of the old ones... but not the new one. :cry_sad:

I love this topic!

I love the old Fabuland pieces, they were awesome- aspecialy:

and

2041.jpg

They could be easily intergrated with minifigs.

And of course the new Lego stars: Cows

Just look in her eyes. Now you want one. If I could I would buy a 1000 just to have them.

The same thing is with Rock monsters... They are too adorable!

That arch is very nice indeed. However it is not the one that made it back sadly. It is this one:

Which also is a beutiful arch.

Far too many to list, but isn't it interesting that most of what we  comes in the form of those pesky specialized (<insert that tiresome argument> even) pieces that everyone likes to complain about? I think most of the complaints are bull, to be honest. No one makes you use these parts, but look how much better they make things.

It's going to sound awfully cliche but ever since I first saw it, this has been mt favorite LEGO piece to date.

577.jpg

In chrome of course. After my first few saets I got after my dark ages, I looked on ebay and bought something like 12 or 14 chrome hilts with various blades for cheap, now they are much more, adn I'll never get rid of any of my hilts.

The difference between a <insert that tiresome argument> piece vs a good piece is that a <insert that tiresome argument> piece is usually a piece that could have been done better with existing pieces instead of creating a new specialized piece to do the job.

Examples:

It can also refer to parts that are specifically made to be bigger and less detailed in order to be suitable for smaller hands such as the 3-wheel motorcycle or the 4+ figures.

Yes, but we are still talking about parts we are fond of, for no good reason and that are often derided... So, you have any parts you like to use?

Posted (edited)

I like tiles, especially 2x2, I do not know why :D

Maybe because these were not so common in 80s sets.

Probably for the same reason, I really like green parts too.

So I really like the few green tiles that I have

Likewise, I love all the parts in non-standard colours (ie not the colours of my youth). Especially the earth tones that allow for great landscaping and realistic building colours. And this plant:

These raised baseplates. The perfect baseplates in my opinion for creating a harbor.

Just perfect!

This is one of my all-time favorites. Call me crazy but I really like it. The printing on the tile is just excellent and looks great and the quality is still perfect, just like new.
