Apparently someone's taking the appropriate age suggestions a bit too seriously.

"But he's only fifteen, he might swallow the tiny parts!"

That's why the seller asked for my I.D when I bought it last week. It all makes sense now.

A comment from that page:

Stuff that, I am going to chew the hell out of those pieces.

Bada$$ outlaw!

Seriously, I suspect it's because of the price. They might want to have some confirmation that whoever is buying a £355 LEGO set isn't some kid using his or her parents' credit card.

Maybe they are worried a minor might get hold of this and MOC some kind of immitation firearm from the parts?

Seriously, Amazon do not allow anyone under the age of 18 to place an order without 'supervision', so the whole statement (and price) is laughable!

Then they'd ask for a 18 years old, wouldn't they?

I don't know. Doesn't that depend on your bank? Is it legally not possible to get a credit card if you're younger than 18 no matter where you are?

In the UK it is not possible for anyone under the age of 18 to get a credit card, although with a adult guarantor a minor could enter into a Hire Purchase agreement. But it is quite clear that a Credit Card contract can not be entered into if the applucant is a minor.

In my jurisdiction 16 is not considered an adult. It wouldn't be adult only Lego here. Someone may have confused the 16+ on the box with video game ratings rules where you can't sell to someone below the age of the rating on the product. I guess cafe corner could be rated teen mature as there is a hotel and the mini-figs could be doing something naughty in the rooms. :classic:

Unfortunately, you and Ralph are missing all that is funny about this.

It's not about Amazon regulations or credit cards. The company has officially proclaimed it Adults-only. "This item must be used responsibly and appropriately" Do you really think 15 year olds will use this item irresponsibly and inappropriately? It seems to me an obvious screw-up between the tech side and the promotion side.

You folks can make it about credit cards and national Internet ordering if you like :classic:
