EspEth12 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) I guess 2 years is as much as you can expect a line like this to get. There have been quite a few of these relatively short-lived action/adventure themes like this, like Exo Force, Aquaraiders, Alpha Team, or Agents. I guess you could see Atlantis as a follow-up to this kind of theme. Hmm, isn't there a pattern in recent action themes?2008: Third and last year of Exo Force, first year of Agents. 2009: Second and last year of Agents, first year of Power Miners. 2010: Second and last year of Power Miners, first year of Atlantis. That means atlantis might end next year! Edited February 9, 2010 by EspEth12 Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 That means atlantis might end next year! Considering I don't think they are selling that well from what I could see, and a few places already had them on sale, be happy with what you get. Themes never have lasted very long, this isn't anything new, in several years they will bring something back like it, no big deal. It has happened with Aquazone, Divers, Exo-force, Rock Raiders, Life on Mars, Mars Mission Alpha Team, Agents. No LEGO Action themes last longer than 3 years. Quote

blueandwhite Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Beyond the original staples of LEGO (Town, Space, Castle and to a lesser extent Pirates), there aren't many themes that survive more than 2-3 years so it shouldn't really come as much of a surprise to people that Power Miners are heading into the sunset. I can understand that people are disappointed when this sort of thing happens, but it's pretty much inevitable as it allows for the development of a new theme. LEGO is a children's toy, so you have to figure that there is quick consumer turnover as newer buyers come of age and older children move onto other hobbies and interests. Still, for those of you who loved the theme there is still some time to pick up the remaining sets. Hopefully LEGO will have something new for you next year to fill the void. Quote
BlueDragonZ Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Power Miners may have a high chance of getting discontinued, but its still not certain. Although we haven't seen any pictures from toy fairs for August, Power Miners may come back in 2011. Oh well, lego themes are pretty short now generally around 1-1.5 years except for Star Wars, City, Technic, and Creator. Quote
RocketClone Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 As far as im concerned i don't think this will be that bad, i mean some of us are whining about it now, but then here comes Atlantis soon it will go and then we'll whine about it again. As you can see the trend will go on and on and on. Quote

Yeah, and when Atlantis is gone. we'll probally be complaining about that too. And then we'll get over it and be interested in the new theme thats going to replace Atlantis. Golbolco Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Well there is one way to continue, after capturing eruptorr they discover that the rock monsters are attacking underground all over the world plus the moon. so they go all over the world to stop them. Quote
Commander Flash Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) Usually Action Themes are pretty short-lived, but it isn't a bad theme in the pieces and sets department. Theres a bunch of times I find a useful part in an adventures set. Power Miners had a pretty good run, with a good amount of crystals and helmets. The newer adventure theme will come, then go the same, due to a lack of ideas to expand on the theme. Thats where evergreen themes like Castle thrive, on different subdivisions and set ideas. Big Cam Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 This doesn't surprise me. Granted I don't speak for everyone but I didn't like this theme all that much, and I'm guessing it wasn't the most popular. As a Corpration LEGO must get rid of things that aren't making it money. Of course this theory falls apart when you throw in the Pirates line going away. Huh, well at any pace, I'm impartial to see them go. They did provide some cool head's. Quote
Prime Brick Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I think they should do a Power Miners Battle Pack That would be awsome however, I think every theme should have a Battle Pack Quote

Huh, well at any pace, I'm impartial to see them go. They did provide some cool head's. Well, I'm not surprised to se Power Miners end either but I don't think the reason for that is low popularity. Sure, PM might not have a huge fanbase from the AFOLs but I do belive that the theme is highly popular among kids. PM was awarded "toy of the year 2009" here in Sweden and I'm pretty sure I've read something from TLG saying that the theme was a much bigger success than they had planned. So I wouldn't say that low popularity and not making money is the reasons for cancelling Power Miners. The real reason is something that already has been mentioned in this topic, themes like this don't last long. 1-3 years is what they get and it's been like that for a long time. There are just a few long-lasting themes by LEGO like City and Star Wars. Themes come and themes goes, some are revived and some are for ever dead. Power Miners is probably one of the themes I will miss the least but for those who like it I suppose now is a good time to stock up on the sets. Quote

Huh, well at any pace, I'm impartial to see them go. They did provide some cool head's. If Power Miners wasn't successful they wouldn't have given it a second year whatsoever. As has been suggested elsewhere, I figure that the line's phase-out is partly due to the huge budget being spent on Atlantis this year. We've had a TV special, free 3-D glasses with Brickmaster magazines, a 3-D website, that fancy thing you do with the webcam and the instruction booklet (speaking of which, there's a similar gimmick with specially-marked sets, mostly of the City theme, at a LEGO store I went to), and a pretty large line of sets. slimninj4 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 This theme will come back in some form. Just like Atlantis, every few years they bring back a water theme. Rock Miners (or whatever they were a few years ago) now Power Miners. I like that they go away. It keeps it fresh. Kids want new things every once in a while. I am pretty sure LEGO knows what they are doing. I just wish I can get PM when they go on sale. hehe. I do hope they bring back a mecha theme. That was my fave of the last few years. Go EXO-FORCE Mars Mission was one of the worst. Quote

The Skull Bandit Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Probably another short-term theme just like aqua-raiders. Quote
Sir Fred Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Thematically I don't think Power Miners really has anywhere to go from here without driving headlong into the realm of insane. They dug to the center of the Earth for a couple years, made it, dealt with the tremors, had a tea-party there (What, you wouldn't?) and then lived happily ever after. Maybe they could make a Power Miner's tea-party at the Earth's core set! I never got into Power Miners, but if I see one of the sets with a Rock Monster in it for cheap, I intend to get it simply because I like the Rock Monsters and can imagine a few interesting uses for them. Clone OPatra Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 This theme wasn't really that short term. It did have three waves, which is pretty good for a non-evergreen theme, plus some of those sets were exclusives and there were a lot of sets overall, unlike Aqua-raiders which had basically just one wave with a handful of sets. These sets will probably still be on shelves a little while too, even though new ones may not be produced. For a non-evergreen theme, it seems to me that Power Miners had a good run. Quote

Abaddon127 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I have to say, I probably would have liked PM much more without the Lime-Green & Orange color scheme. I do have one of the smaller sets, and would like to get a few of those shiny silver figs from the current wave. Whatever LEGO does to replace PM, I just hope they stay away from stickers. Quote
