well arctic was released when lego wasn't popular at all, at least the small, unique themes, like this one but also the rockraiders theme didn't do all that well. The result is i guess low prices, especially if they come without book and box

Really wish I'd bid on this Legorado Fortress. Went for

keep in mind that we post the "insane" lego auctions here, people :-X the ones that go waaaay above our wallet X-O :-X ... or the auctions that are really extreme for another reason...

just to keep this topic on track...

10.000 dollars for an hp set... must be some sort of a typo. it doesn't make sense.

it seems to me many of these bidders don't seem to be aware of Bricklink's existence. 2000 dollars for the red monorail seems too much...

the space cruiser is a bit high, don't think that's a "never opened set" , but oh well, in this case, there were two guys who were willing to spend lots of money on it... again, bricklink has better deals

I don't think it's a typo, check out the buyer's feedback.

ok... so what happens in this case? does the second highest bidder get the set then?

Probably. I usually only buy at Ebay and hardly ever sell anything so I'm not sure. Still, the second highest bidder bid the same amount and is probably the same guy.

Still, as the feedback said, the seller had to pay 170$ because it sold for that much money. Poor guy.

ok so they can't charge this guy for his actions?

Well I'm assuming he spams these accounts, never linking to anything that could be traced back to him. He might be doing it from a public library, creating a new hotmail account or something each time...

Either that or ebay doesn't care enough to investigate into the matter, which is probably more likely *sad* Since the bigging went to the second-highest bidder, I assume the seller wasn't still charged the fee on the it, but rather based on the price of the second-highest? However to get to such a price the second-highest guy had to be close behind, due to bid-increments, right? So there was another person silly enough to bid just under the $2000 or...am I confused about something?

yeah ... i think you are confused... we were talking about the hp castle making 10000 dollars because of a megablocking guy

Ah, I confused the $2000 monorail with the $10000 HP but still...wouldn't he need two accounts to bid against himself to raise the price due to the incremental bidding system? That's what I was asking.

yeah it's kinda weird. in any case, if i were the seller , i wouldn't pay ebay...

Actually, the monorail is a pretty rare set.

1. All of the original molds have been destroyed.

2. The company that made the motors is no more either.

3. This came out a bit ago.

But normally this set would give the seller 150-200

Yes, he'd need 2 accounts. As a matter of fact, I think he actually used 2. Seems to be some megablock who uses Ebay for a laugh *sad*

The last time I was watching one it was about US$60. BL price is about this price too.

Just found a seller on eBay in the usa, with $60 postage on a ~700 peice set!!

He says

"Please Note: Shipping and handling fees may seem higher than usual. This is because a large portion of the fee (handling) is attributed to the time I have taken to examine all my kits and make sure all the pieces are included. Because of this, the auction will start at a very low price. Please consider the total price when buying the items (I am sure you will find them very reasonable)."

Err, doesn't everyone do this before selling a set on eBay, and not charge about $40 for it?

Any ebayers or seller were to charge higher shipping & handling charges, they would need to provide detail information with their services. Lego should sort and pack accordingly & in several plastic bags. Then it should be boxed up for shipping. Detailed advice on the actual condition of the items he is selling like the missing part, nicks on minifig if any etc.

Judging from his feedbacks received, he is just a ebayer that makes a high profit out from shipping. For me as a seller, I too charge expensive shipping as firstly Paypal's exchange rate from foreign to my local currency is way too low. Secondly, I really spent time to examine, sort & clean Used Lego. Details of my work are as: Sample from my listing.

For me, my shipping services are:-

Used Lego: I would have sorted the Lego parts by colours and packed in several bags accordingly mostly to colour. Boxing or bubble warping the item for shipping is depending on the buyer's requirements.

MISB sets are straight forward for shipping boxing or bubble warping.

I don

Meh, the shipping is a ripoff, obviously, but as long as he states it there's no issue.

All that BS about careful sorting etc, is a lie. This is actually a scam to avoid pay eBay fees. Because of his shipping fee being so high, his auction will go to a much lower value, so he pays less to eBay. Also, he can take the risk of listing at a low initial value, and again save money.

In some cases it's good for the buyer, because for customs, they declare a lower value.

A lot of China and Eastern European sellers do this too. 1 cent item 25 dollars shipping. It's actually against eBay rules, but sellers try to find a fine line where it's not so obviously a scam that they are penalized by eBay. I'd say this guy is probably on or just beyond that line.

Expensive Shipping Charges?

Check out this for the shipping charges Ex-USA to Singapore/Asia for 3 minifigs.
