A year or so back there was a seller called onebreeze / e-breeze on eBay that sold discontinued sets from the early 1990s up to the mid 1990s for a retired shopkeeper who did not manage to offload his stock when he was in business. The seller mentioned this straightforward in each description that it came from a closed store and that he was helping the old man out by putting things online. By doing this, he gained some trust by giving an explanation of where he got it that this was all ligit. His honesty was reflected in the bidding but the die-hards on eBay will surely recall this. Every set was sold separately and he had a couple huge 1990s 6086 castles, 6285 BSBs and 6277 ITPs.

Yes, I noticed that the resellers are already lining up. Basically, forget about bargains except for the Exploriens sets etc. that no one is really interested in and that usually do not command high prices. Expect huge numbers. Every serious Lego collector that is used to buy stuff online will have noticed this sale is going on.

I remember onebreeze very fondly. I bought a few from him. They were absolutely in perfect condition.

On the legitimacy of this seller I would say one thing most certainly in his favour is that all photos seem to be taken in the same place and are of similar picture quality, it's not like he's just scoured brickshelf and pulled random pics. Also it'd be much harder to find the sort of pics he has with the eclectic mix of sets in each listing.

Mind you this is all irrelevant to me, I'd love one or two of the sets but those combined prices for 6 or 7 push me out of the market.

Prices are already out of control, and it's only half way. Lockhand is winning all the Castle items. Looks like he really wants these items I guess. If they go significantyl higher, I doubt he can resell them for so much that it is worth the trouble and risk... I suspect they are for his own collection. I sympathize, but I think at this point I'm outta there.

There were a couple I really wanted , but not all of them.

Sigh.

Same here. I was looking at a few items but those gigantic mixed lots will go for a lot of money. That means that you will receive duplicates that you need to resell to retrieve some of the investment. Furthermore, shipping will be incredibly high, especially for overseas bidders even if you decide to have things shipped in separate boxes. And considering the fact that customs is still alive and kicking here, I think they will grab their "fair" share also based on the declared value on the parcel.

If you buy any of the lots, this should be done with your own collection in mind. Some items are in high demand and sometimes nearly impossible to find MISB at a fair price (6080 King's Castle and 6083 Knight's Tournament for instance). Every serious bidder that can afford them will take a shot. In the end only 1 bidder can win so be prepared to see some incredibly high prices.

I too would have rather seen that items were sold separately or in smaller quantities to keep prices and shipping etc. in hand.

Sigh is the right word...

well.... not quite ready to quit yet.... That's what happens when I stay up late and I am semi delirious with insomnia and fatigue.

I agree, there is some absolute ebay madness going on. *wacko* I am currently bidding on an item from Lockhand, so I don't want to go there, but there are others who seem to take pride in capturing everything they can at the last possible second. |-/ I don't know where they get the money to do it, I guess they are making a pretty penny.

You look at the bid history on some of these guys you are bidding against and see that it is in their style to bid mere seconds before the closing bell. It is a scary thing! X-O

I want to be cautious, as I am bidding against some of these same people, but I suppose it is clever, and I guess it is successful. Hopefully I can beat them at their own game. X-D

I've dropped quite a few bids in, not seconds before, not a second before, but dead on the end time. Literally within hundredths of a second to register the same time as the ending, and it's a perfectly legit bid. X-D

No, I don't always win those auctions, but I do give the winner something to think about. >:-) Oh, and yeah, sometimes I miss and end up a second early. On rarer occasion, a tiny internet hiccup and I miss the auction completely. It's a risk I don't take if I mind the possibility of losing.

As for the ones I am winning lately, it's all misc lots, usually underpriced because people offer such poor pictures and don't show off the best pieces clearly. I snatch those up very cheap and love sorting out just what I've managed to get. Primarily minifigs and accessories. I have more shakos than I need currently :-P, and not enough epaulettes. 8-|

While some prices are crazy, it's good to see some of the better items bought by people who really want them. I like to think that they'll take good care of them, I hope that's true.

Sometimes cheaper isn't better anyway. The real sucker auctions are the "25 random minifigs" and the "1lb of LEGO blah blah" auctions. Any quality parts are already taken out, you can bet on that. What you're getting is the bottom of the bottom, the bulk filler.

Yea, I've seen those before. Its funny what some people will still be willing to bid on them though.

That's what I hope to have happen here. It seems I'm bidding against someone who is just going to resell the item (from what I can see in their bid history). Not saying there might not be someone who would enjoy it more than me, but I would certainly appreciate it if I won! X-D
