I saw that, too, the other day... *wacko*
Since this thread seems to become a place to collect this sort of ebay auctions, should we use it for linking crazy lego auctions, and rename it accordingly?

I for one am always interested in auctions like that, even if I can't bid... :-/

yeah, that was more or less what i had in mind with this thread: turning it into an "eat your heart out" kinda topic: a collection of some potentionally insane auctions... Sure, i'll never participate to one of those, but it's just really fun to see how people respond to these bids... :-P

ps: we should pin it as well

sounds like a fun idea, as long as it does not become a spam thread for every single auction on eBay. Let's try to reserve only the craziest of the crazy prices for this thread.

A worthy auction for this thread *wacko*

Alright, I pinned this thread and renamed it.

Those who already posted in here know what it's about.

For those who don't:

We want to follow "crazy" or "rare" ebay LEGO auctions and see how they end. And by crazy we mean crazy pricewise. Read this thread and you know what we mean. Please don't post auctions that probably end 50 cents over retail price, that wouldn't be crazy (just stupid). If this turns into a spamfest the posts will be deleted without comment.

So, lets enjoy ebay's madness :-)

I have to say I considered the 6061 bid, but only at around 100$

But 107.50 for a 39 piece 5$ set consisting of a fig, a horse and a cart.... that takes the cake!

i wonder if these prices have reached their peak by now... :-| , generally speaking, I mean. it's my impression that the hype of classic space sets is gone, but castle sets still seem to do very well...

Well, the demand for these old sets must come purely from people who grew up with them as 10 year olds, and now have jobs and enough money to spend on nostalgia.

So, they are 30-40 year olds now, and trying to recapture their innocent childhood years, or playing with their own kids, saying...." you know son, these KK3 sets suck..... let me show you a CLASSIC!". And they whip out their MISB 6040 that cost 200$ and open it up, hearing the sucking sound of 200$ vanishing into thin air (and me weeping far away).

And of course, their kids don't really care one way or the other..... :-X

They may have another 5-10 years of interest, but I can't imagine too many 50 year olds wanting these sets, or having children of the right age.

So eventually prices on these sets will definitely go down, but when that will be I can't say.

My brother owns 6073, the blacksmith shop and the cart (plus a few more small sets). I remember us playing with those. They do bring back memories, and having them again MISB would be nice, of course (for which set wouldn't it be), but this is just ridiculous...

I like this set and considered bidding, but then it went from 77 Euro to 201 over night. And again it was some ebay newbie who raised the price because he couldn't wait and had to bid 5 days before it ends >:-( Not that it would change much but I've seen newbies help raise the price all too often...

And again it was some ebay newbie who raised the price because he couldn't wait and had to bid 5 days before it ends >:-( Not that it would change much but I've seen newbies help raise the price all too often...

yeah... so this guy offered 100 euro... but then what happened? why did he then offer 120, 150,...? was that the automated system or was it just this guy being incredibly stupid?

i'd like that set as well, but i guess there are lots of sets i can buy for a lot less...

The latter. I see this happening a lot with newbies. They don't set themselves a limit, they bid, see that it's not enough, and then a short bidding frenzy starts: "I wanna have it! I wanna have it!" And they don't realize their stupidity before 5 or so tries...

still, 201 won't be the final price... best guess, any one? considering upcoming festivities, i'd say 400 or so...

Here's another recently ended stupid price. 4513 Train Station. Not exactly an old set and there seems to be plenty of them around. My girlfriend paid $50AU each for hers brand new about 6 months ago. These idiots drove it up to $255AU.

Here's another recently ended stupid price. 4513 Train Station. Not exactly an old set and there seems to be plenty of them around. My girlfriend paid $50AU each for hers brand new about 6 months ago. These idiots drove it up to $255AU.

That's about 151 Euros, quite steep.

Somehow this set is popular now. There are still a few around, usually around 60 USD. I want a few of them (I missed the 50 % sale on S@H this spring >:-( ) and naively enough I'm still hoping for a deal. Guess I'll be hoping for quite some time...

g... not even MISB... all i can say is this: I should have bought every set at least twice when I was young and I should have brought all double sets to a vault in a bank with clear instructions for the bank manager not to alow me to open the vault untill after the end of my dark age... :-P

The lugnet entry 9355 indicates that it was one of those classroom sets (they had them for many themes, including Adventurers even! Check that one!
