Darth Legolas Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) Well, just logged on, but it feels faster already! Thanks! EDIT: The entire 2010 picture and rumor topic loaded in 20 seconds! Now that's great! With this taste of heaven, I could never imagine going back to the old one. Edited February 17, 2010 by Darth Legolas Quote
JimBee Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 New server? I can't tell the difference by looking, but I guess that's not what matters. Anyway, I couldn't log on for some time, until now. Are members slowly getting access at different times? Quote
Alex the Great Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 When I first logged on to the new server it was really slow, but now it's quite a bit faster. Thanks! Quote
def Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I'm seeing posts here from a few hours back, but I wasn't able to log in until the last hour. Strange, but that time has passed. Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Very nice, and very fast; thanks for the update. By the way, I'm not sure if this is considered a bug or not, but on my desktop, when I move my cursor over the Eurobricks icon, and it reads the link, it says (OFFLINE) Board Offline still, like earlier today when you were updating. Any reason why this is? Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Yay, The new Server is up! I haven't noticed a difference so far (not meant as an insult, but rather a "You didn't destroy Eurobricks and I haven't found any problems!" )! I thought it would take longer than it did, but I was most likely at school when it all happened. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
CommanderFox Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 My guess is that you have replies set to "branching tree" format. Read through this thread to find how to fix it. Thanks a ton Ricecracker! Its all back to normal now. I can definitly tell EB is faster, I just click a topic and its straight away there, I love it! Thanks alot all you staff! CommanderFox Quote
ILikePi Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 The new server seems slightly faster! Thanks for improving the EB experience! Aha, so if Dennimator stops posting this problem should disappear Quote
Rick Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I'm seeing posts here from a few hours back, but I wasn't able to log in until the last hour. Strange, but that time has passed. The change in IP address has to propagate through the DNS system. Basically, a record on your ISP's DNS server has to get updated to say that whenever you type 'www.eurobricks.com' it no longer has to redirect you to the old IP address, but to the new one. I've had these issues as well for a while (it kept going back and forth even). Quote
Siegfried Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 The change in IP address has to propagate through the DNS system. Basically, a record on your ISP's DNS server has to get updated to say that whenever you type 'www.eurobricks.com' it no longer has to redirect you to the old IP address, but to the new one. Exactly. This takes from 6-48 hours, with under 12 being common. This time spread is mostly due to how DNS records are cached at sub-servers to reduce traffic on the masters. A business network will often have it's own DNS which can extend the delay further, as can internal caching by browsers. And it will be solved?Regards One way or another. Please just give us a few days; this was a major operation. ...time passes... We (OK Bonaparte ) just made some changes. If there are any character oddities in new posts please tell us. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted February 18, 2010 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted February 18, 2010 All weird character problems should be fixed now We had a character set mismatch between the Invision software and our mysql software. This is now corrected. Well it happens here. Post 17, 19 and some others but more specifically it seems to be just Dennimator. About the symbols and letters, I too noticed something in this topic.I know that when it comes to currency symbols things are strange sometimes but I've never seen these particular ones before. I also remember that the euro sign was OK in that topic yesterday. Btw, the poster is from Italy. I found the same Bug as Eskallon. Here http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=25534. My nickname is wrong. It should be "The Player N1" instead of " The Player Nº1".If you cannot solve this, please change my nickname to "The Player N1". Thanks. Regards All linked posts in the above quotes are now back to normal for me. I hope it's the same for the rest of you. Please continue reporting problems when you encounter them. This helps us a lot! Thank you!! Quote

phoinix Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 i seem to have trouble login in. this is the first time i made it up to here. hope the problems end soon. t thanx Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted February 18, 2010 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted February 18, 2010 We are still tuning the server as we get more traffic over here. In the next week or 2 weeks we might still have some problems from time to time (server getting slow during some periods). This is normal when you're moving everything to a new server and we are working closely with our provider to get things stabilized. Let us know if you should experience some slow response times. i seem to have trouble login in.this is the first time i made it up to here. hope the problems end soon. t thanx That's normal. Our new IP@ is still rippling through the Internet DNS servers. It can potentially take up to 48 hours to fully stabilize. Quote
General Magma Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 My computer is old and EB usually had a slow and long load time, but now when I click something it immediately comes up! Thanks for this, ~ General Magma Quote

Zorbas Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Everything looks OK now, at least for me. I must say, Bonaparte, you're handling this in a most professional manner. [a big one] [/a big one] Quote

The site is really a LOT faster! Quote
Rocketbilly Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Not sure if this has anything to do with the new server, or even if it's a bug at all, but I've not experienced it before and it's been constant since the swith of servers. When I open Eurobricks in my browser, Mr. Bonaparte's post regarding the new server change is right at the top of the page, even when there's some new frontpage news it remains at the top with the new stuff beneath; I have my suspicions it's intended to be that way, but just in case thought I'd make note of it. Also, when browsing with my PSP I'm getting a message asking me if I want to run a plug in every time I open/refresh the frontpage, and this is also post server switch, though I think that might just be my PSP. Sorry if I'm wasting time with my poor knowledge of the working of a forum! regards, Will/Rocketbilly Quote
