I like how that ebay seller has zero feedback too.

You can look at the Bricklink price guide for individual sets. It only goes back 6 months though.

That is such a rip-off. I like how he said that others have sold for $9099.00. Don't you think someone is going to research something before they spend thousands of dollers and find that the whole sealed set is about $85.00.

As I said before the most expensive set is the Batman Statue that sold at $27,000. Not sure about an official set though.

there's also a few things on ebay with high asking prices.. of particular hilarity is the $4,500 IJ minifig "that will never be made for a while" (link) free shipping!

That's hilarious!

"I have been getting alot of questions about this item, this Lego minifigure was in a hard to find, limited edition set THAT WILL NEVER BE MADE FOR AWHILE, when I said "You may see this for double or more elsewhere" their were a few on eBay for USD$9,099.00 and now they have been taken off or sold! So this is one of the last ones, which makes it even more rare. The price is still the same and their is still free shipping. Even if you pay $4,500.01 it is yours!"

Never be made for awhile? There were some but they sold? Zero feedback? *falls on floor laughing*

Wow, I can't imagine anyone (even us LEGO fanatics) spending over a few thousand dollars on any one lego thing. I personally couldn't put down even a couple hundred dollars on a lego set.

Co-sign! I've never understood the need of wanting a vintage set. Sure, some are cool, but I rather spend that money on new sets with new and updated elements.

well, I might be selling a custom set, or auctioning it off starting at $15,000. Though that base price is what the price of the pieces by themselves will cost, and I'm hoping to get donations to be able to build it and then sell it for charity. Its a few year project that I'm starting, one of three, but I have to look up the laws and regulations on collecting such a large amount of money in donations. I'm putting up at least a few thousand to start the project, and hoping that a percentage of the final sale can go towards each new project.

So that sale/donation might hit a new high.

I'm currently in works on the LDD model. Unfortunately LDD has trouble with such large models and sometimes takes 4 minutes to rotate a section. Its been in a planning stage for almost half a year, but I've finally put the pieces together (hehe) on how to actually do this.

In the coming weeks I should be posting an official "start" to the project, with pictures and details.

But yeah, its a lot of money and a lot of pieces.

That's just awful! Isn't there some sort of law against such a rip-off? Misinformation or something? Well, luckily nobody on this earth is stupid enough to buy it.

If anyone does, rather than warning them in advance, we should just kick them.

Anyway, I'm curious as to the most expensive set at Lego's original price. Anyone know?

It would be more reasonable to consider the price paid for a sale that actually happened. If nobody pays to buy it, then the price is meaningless.

I wouldn't recommend doing this. If you made a model for $1000 it would appeal to a much bigger audience and get more money for the amount of work you've put into it. $15,000 can pretty much buy you a new car. Very few people have the money to spend that high of an amount even if its going to charity.

It sounds amazing though and I wish you the best of luck. :sweet:

I'm assuming that the most expensive set ever at the original LEGO price is the UCS Millenium Falcon, which is still available through Lego S@H at £342.49. Fair enough, seeing that it's the second largest set (in terms of piece count) that LEGO have ever produced.

It does however make the number 1 biggest set that LEGO have ever produced (Taj Mahal, 5922 pieces) a bit of a bargain at only £199.99 !

Happy building.

Actually, you're all wrong. The most expensive LEGO "set" (heh heh) would be the LEGO Duck.

http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/LEGO_Duck

One of, if not the first LEGO product ever made. I'm sure it would sell for a fortune most of us could hardly conceive of here.

It's not the first...

this "set" came around in 1935, while lego was founded in 1932 (though it was named lego in 1934, a couple years after it was founded)

The VERY first sets were basic wooden toys, like firetrucks, etc. And it would be really hard, if not impossible, to find these originals

(if your friends with kjeld kirk christiansen, he might have one or two lying around to give you...)

:yoda:

P.S. that one random giveaway where one lucky person got a SOLID GOLD C-3P0 seemed interesting. whoever got it could probably hold onto it for a while, then sell it for a very high price (not entirely sure if its counted as a set, though)

If you owned set #45903928179 as a kid, and have since lost it, but it launched your love for architecture and you have since designed the Wal Mart tower in Hong Kong, then I could see paying out the megablocks for that set.

Also, if, as a child you wanted every single Pirates set from 1989 but your parents couldn't afford them at the time, and you ended up becoming an AFOL (as is my case) then I could also see you paying a shitton for set #459093835....

but aside from those three reasons, I don't understand the need for wanting a vintage set.

The first link price has been changed to $9.99

But the second one, ROFL

First time in a while I had a good laugh reading the forum!

Thanks!

I order to establish what is expensive, you must balance it with what you get. So, paying U$S100.- for a 25 pieces sets (in the case this exists) is far more expensive than paying U$S 400.- for a set containig thousands of pieces... Just my two cents... :)

This topic got me thinking about the most expensive individual parts available. Some shockers here:

1. http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=fifi2...itemID=10477453

2. http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=stace...;itemID=9710385

3. http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=TASTE...;itemID=9199207

Search that I used: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?viewFr...ort=B&sz=25

Not sure anybody would be crazy enough to pay those prices. :hmpf_bad:

The red ghost piece is worth a lot but I dont think its that expensive. Is that bionicle piece real? Cause at only 3 in the world I would be skeptical, but Im not educated on the world of bionicle that well so Im just going of instincts.
