The Penguin Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Does anyone else thing that we will get Clutch Powers figs? With printing on the side of the legs like the new Max Minifigure? As in the movie Clutch has a seam down the side of his pants and Bernie had pockets on the side of his pants and arms etc. Also the Prince/King dude has printed striped arms. *fingers crossed* It's four fingers crossed now! ) I've just watched the movie and that was absolutely BRILLIANT! ) That's the best word to describe it. it's relatively late here now, but it won't stop me from watching it again. The movie is in no way childish and is suitable even for AFOLS, which indicates the great work that the crew'd done with the film. I presume that more films are in order. And the theme based on it is more than welcome! ) Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
Aanchir Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Some of the figs in Clutch Powers would be unlikely because of their unique hairstyles. But Clutch himself would be pretty feasible, especially after the Max minifigure's side-printed legs debuted. Am I correct in that he uses Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker hair in black? That's what it looks like to me. I never noticed that the lead male and lead female were both in Chuck. I loved that show, and totally should have recognized Yvonne Strahovski's name from the opening credits. Of course, in that show she affected an American accent and in Clutch Powers she used her native Aussie accent, so I guess it's no surprise I didn't take a second look at where I knew that name from. Speaking of names, I loved that the head of LEGO in the film was named Kjeld Playwell. Partly because it's such a great double-reference, and partly because I FINALLY know how to pronounce that name! It'd be a bit odd if the sequel was more than a year away-- after all, unlike BIONICLE the sets and characters don't really correspond, so there's no way to keep the characters and plot fresh in people's minds. But then, if it is that far off, I'm content to wait-- after all, the film was so phenomenal that I'd understand the time it takes to make something else of that caliber. Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 What was really sad was how excited Sieggy and I got by the commercials at the start of the DVD. We just don't seem to get Lego ads on free-to-air TV. The movie was great, and I hope they do more (they've definitely left it open for a sequel or two). It would be a bit odd if Lego didn't at least do a basic set or a mini-fig pack from the movie, seeing as they are doing so many other licenced themes. I mean, why not? I would love particularly an Arty fig, with that gorgeous two-tone hair and the shoes-and-trousers printed legs (admittedly the legs freaked out at first, but I grew to like them). This could be the first time in ages when I'm eagerly awaiting any merchandise they churn out... Quote

We just don't seem to get Lego ads on free-to-air TV. You clearly don't watch enough Channel Ten. They were showing ads for the new Airport sets a few weeks back My 6 year old nephew was excited enough to call me and discuss the ins and outs of the plot for a good half hour on the weekend, so it definitely hits the right target audience Quote
Aanchir Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Now that it's been a month since the movie's release, I think it's probably safe to start with sequel speculation. So. At the end of the film, Kjeld Playwell begins to give a briefing on the next mission. The planet is called "Goferbro", and the time continuum listed is apparently something-seventies (I would guess mid-seventies, late seventies, or something to that effect). Since this film used sets spanning two years of Castle sets for its planet-of-focus, I'd imagine that a sequel (whenever it may come) would use at least some sets that are around in 2010. But which? Probably not Atlantis, since it's already gotten a short film of its own. Nor Kingdoms, since they wouldn't use castle-themed settings for two films in a row when such variety is present in the LEGO brand. The name of the planet "goferbro" reminds me of the phrase "go for broke", so possibly a competitively-themed line like World Racers will factor in. What we've seen of the World Racers planet does not match the image of Goferbro, but the film's image could be preliminary (or merely an alternate interpretation, since Ashlar was never really mentioned to exist outside the plot of the movie). World Racers could be an interesting choice because it would continue the skull motif as a symbol of the Bad Guy faction. The photograph in Rock Powers' journal hints that the skull motif will be central to the Bad Guy faction. And while it may be hopeless dreaming, perhaps our good pals Skully and Bones could make an appearance (they were quite entertaining, and it's hard to imagine anyone better suited than LEGO skeletons for comic relief). But these are just my thoughts. Anyone else got any speculations? Quote
def Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I wasn't particularly impressed. I like Pixar's stuff lots, and the occasional Dreamworks pic, but this movie didn't have 'magic' for me. It wasn't embarrassing or loaded with pop culture references, which I appreciate a lot, but it didn't do it for me. It made me think a lot of the Travelers Tales games, which I really like. They work great as three-minute bits between gameplay, but not as a 90-minute feature. I'm glad some reveled in this, and I'd probably check out a sequel, but this didn't expand my Lego enjoyment experience at all. It works as an extension of the brand for the target audience. Quote

Well, I'm sure that hardly anyone expected this to be on par with the work of the world's best animation studios. But it was still better than most unlicensed Lego animations we have seen so far, don't you think? Quote

But it was still better than most unlicensed Lego animations we have seen so far, don't you think? Actually, I expected it to be on par, if I was going to enjoy it. It wasn't a matter of images, but of clever writing. The writing! (and I hardly consider Dreamworks one of the world's best in animation ) But, I never saw any of the unlicensed ones before this, so you could well be right that it was an overall improvement. Just that it wasn't something an AFOL needs to go out of their way to see. Those Travelers Tales games are satisfying and world class though, especially in comparison. They are on par with Pixar. Ryan_T Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Just watched it online. It was actually better then I expected. Apparently A.FOL is part of Research and development. and... something else I cant make out. :P Quote

His roles with LEGO are "Research and Development" and "Comic Relief". If only the rest of us could list "Comic Relief" as a job title... Here's a better image, as well as a pic of Artie and the rest of the team (minus Peg). Quote
WideWiiLover Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 So, was browsing YouTube and came across this full 1hour 38 min movie liscensed by Lego that is actually REALLY GOOD! I don't know when it was realesead, but it is available on YouTube under this link The Adventures of Clutch Powers What made me laugh is that Lego included an inside joke to AFOLs in the Mad Scientist's name.......He is called A. FOL....... So i think most of you guys would like it. IT is aimed at kids, but kept me interested..... Quote
purpleparadox Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I've never seen the movie, but I've heard of it and thought about watching it. My Internet collection is way too slow to watch it on YouTube, though. Anyway, that's an awesome nod to AFOLs! Good on you, TLG. Quote
Legobrandon Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 It has been on DVD for quite a while now. I believe you can get it at Best Buy and Walmart for under $10. But I guess free on YouTube is much better. ;-) Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Thats funny, I just saw that video on Youtube yesterday! I'll have to watch it some time. Quote
